Why do even the top earning female wrestlers earn far less than their male counterparts?

Becky Lynch may earn $3.1 million a year, but this is way off the mark for males, and there are only another two above the million mark.

I'm a bloke, but my mum has strong opinions on this one and she's having a nosey at my screen. Mum thinks it hurts the lasses that they aren't welcome to wrestle in some countries. Dubai was WWE's big cash cow. Sometimes the women couldn't participate.

I see, that could be one reason why their income is less. But there is such a big discrepancy. For instance, the major male players are earning big bucks. For instance, I read that Brock Lesnar earned $12.5 million in 2020.

People pay more of a ticket price to watch the men and the audiences are larger. Hence, the men can, and do, demand more pay.

 

It's not so the much the leagues or the women who dictate the pay. Ultimately, it's fans.

I see what you mean, @Greylien. It's basically just market forces. I didn't think of it like that. But then again, I have never been to a live wrestling match myself. Whenever I see WWE on TV, it's usually a mix of the two.
