Music award shows

Do you watch any of them, like the VMAs or the Grammys? I don't remember the last time I saw one at least halfway through.

 

I always thought it was tougher judging music than movies.

There was a time when I used to watch every other award, be it about music or movies. The thing I love about these award ceremonies is that there will always be live performance interlude and this goes on to spice everything up.

I think the VMAs made more sense when VH1 and MTV showed music videos, concerts, biographies, and interviews with bands and solo artists. Now the VMAs feel as irrelevant as music videos themselves.

I have a hard time seeing how these award shows could impact today's sales as much as they did in the past. Performers' contracts, maybe.

Is that really the goal? Such events celebrate those with great sales, not to help less unknown artists get better exposure or anything like that. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm happy for the artists who receive the awards because hard work deserves recognition, but it doesn't define my taste.

 

I'm still interested in Grammys with their gigantic number of categories, but I'm not that devoted either. Should I?
