Real Weed or Cocaine in Movies

There are movies where they portray the characters as smoking weed or snorting cocaine. Hollywood actors have free reigns with illegal substances (just my opinion) as they are somewhat untouchables because of their status. I wonder if the weed or cocaine is actually real in those movies that show an actor doing it.

It'd be pretty dumb if it were. If they're filming in CA, the weed wouldn't be a legal issue but cocaine would be. It'd be literal video evidence if they used real stuff on film. Not to mention the unpredictability of the actor's behavior after ingesting actual drugs.

Plus most scenes get filmed multiple times from different angles or for different methods of delivering the lines. So trying to get someone to smoke/snort over and over again for different takes would lead to getting super high, or an OD.

They probably use real alcohol at times since its not a legal issue. Other than that, @Zack T is right; it would be foolish for them to jeopardize their careers just to show some real drugs.

You are correct about what you said. So if the coke was not real, what do you think were they snorting? Even with smoking weed, their acting performance will be affected if they smoke the real thing during filming sessions.
