Office Holiday Parties

Does your workplace throw a holiday party? Do you enjoy going or would you say it's a snore? I usually enjoy our holiday events, but recently alcoholic drinks became limited to a certain number per person as some cohorts were too indulgent last year and made messes of themselves. It's a shame really. Our office holiday party is coming up and I still haven't found a gift for the white elephant gift exchange. I can't spend more than £30 per the exchange rules and the manager who oversees the party is all about making sure we stick to that. Is there a gift exchange where you work?

We do secret Santa same type of thing except minimum is £10 but you can spend more if you wish

We do the same tyoe of gifting and have a minimum spend too because some workers were cheaping out and angering those who put more effort and money into it. The time before the minimum was set is affectionately refereed to as the Scrooge Era at work. It's silly really. The food is great, but there's no alcohol.

Yes, we have a Christmas party every year - with plenty of alcohol laid on, though I don't drink anymore. In our section we do a Secret Santa, with strict instructions not to spend more than a fiver.

I quite enjoy the Christmas parties, because it is one chance that you get to chillax with work colleagues, and you tend to see a different side to them.

This year we are going to a rather nice gastropub, so I am looking forward to some good food.

One problem with works Christmas parties is the delicate matter of flirtation. Take a group of people who work together all year, add alcohol, mistletoe, and the tradition for Christmas kisses, and, before you know it, indiscretions have occurred!

The next day, when everyone has sobered up, then the gossip is rife.

So I am really careful not to drink at works parties any more. I'll just stuff myself with quiche and clementines instead.

Our workplace normally throws an office party and this year, I have been assigned the role of organizing a Secret Santa. I have a few people in the office that I would call really close friends and our tradition has been to briefly show up at these parties then head elsewhere.
