Very sad news :(

 

The lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died aged 48.

 

Weiland's family confirmed the news via social media revealing that he passed away in his sleep while on tour in Bloomington, Minnesota with his current band The Wildabouts.

 

A post on Weiland's Facebook page reads: "Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected."

 

Billboard.com reports that Dave Navarro, guitarist and member of Jane's Addiction, first tweeted the news at on Thursday night: "Our friend Scott Weiland has died." (He has since deleted the tweet.)

 

In a statement the Bloomington Police Department said: "On Dec 3 at 8:22 pm, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle. Officers arrived and determined the adult male was deceased."

This is a real shame, I wasn't the biggest STP fan but the signs were there that Scott Weiland was deteriorating due to some lacklustre performances he had with his band. Still, I thought Weiland would have had a few if not a bunch of years on him, regardless of his past drug and alcohol abuse. It came out of no where I guess.

 

Also kind of sad, that the remaining members of STP and Weiland couldn't wipe the slate clean, although I guess they just went their own ways in the end.
