Guest Magic
Meant to start this thread earlier before the tournament started but never had the time. Never mind! Golf's biggest tournament is now under way at Hoylake, the venue where Tiger Woods last one the championship in 2006. Pre-tournaments include Justin Rose who's bang in form coming off the back of two wins, Rory Mcilroy, World number one Adam Scott, reigning champion Phil Mickleson and of course, Tiger himself. They've been underway since 6am this morning and the early players look to have made the most of the conditions early doors as they seem to be posting better scores than the later players. Mcilroy is currently in the clubhouse lead at -6, followed by Matteo Mannessero on -5. Then come a whole host of players in the mix include Woods and Scott. Anyone following the tournament? Anyone have a bet? I've backed a shedload of players each way, hoping for a couple of places at least. Phil Mickleson is my main fancy, but also hope to see Luke Donald, Bubba Watson, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Brednt Snedekar and Charles Schwartzel go well. Guest Steely
Mcilroy, mannasero, fowler and matsuyama for me, all win only bets, been a good start by all four guys so here's hoping :)
Guest Magic
Mcilroy and Manneserro? Did you know something the rest of us didn't?! :lol I was feeling midly optimistic until Phil made an absolute b*llock of the last hole. Needing good rounds tomorrow. Alot of my guys went out this afternoon and have struggled, hopefully they get favourable conditions in the morning.
King 277
I did Jimmy Walker @ 1001/, Lowry @ 80/1 and Gmac at 35/1, all I want is a place :lol
Guest Steely
Haha yeh ano it's been a good start, if I'm being completely honest then I'm sharing the bets with my old man, he picked Rory and matsuyama while I picked the other two, still a long ways to go tho and I think the conditions are to be quite tricky for round two so we will see how they get on, mcilroy has been having one bad round recently and it's usually a Friday so I hope he bucks the trend there this week. I'm a huge tiger mark and he recovered well today from his bad start plus he's already won at hoylake so I'll be keeping a close eye on him too, didn't put money on him tho, he was a massive 22/1!, I've never seen a price like that for tiger. Jus hope one of my guys has a chance come Sunday
Guest Magic
If none of my guys can win it, as always, anyone but Adam Scott.
Guest Steely
I don't mind Scott at all I was really glad when he won the masters, seemed like the guy deserved it for all his near misses tho I'm not looking for him to win this week either lol,any particular reason for the dislike? Guest Magic
That's just what I do, I make snap, sometimes irrational judgements on sportsman early on in their careers and then hate them forever more :lol It's like how I don't want Steven Gerrard to ever win the Premier League! But I just think Scott comes across as a bit arrogant and I don't think he'd be anywhere near the player he is if he hadn't been using the cheaty putter. He couldn't putt for toffee before it. So I like it when he loses. I think I need people to hate when watching sport almost as much as I need people to cheer. So Rangers, Barcelona, Liverpool, India Cricket Team (MS Dhoni in particular), Jack Wilshere, Lewis Hamilton for most of his career, Adam Scott, Rory Mcilroy, John Higgins, Michel Van Gerwen, Red Bull F1 team, Ryan Giggs, Rafael Nadal etc, etc... And many more! :D Edited July 17, 2014 by Magic
Guest Steely
Yeh the putter is a bit controversial I suppose but it's banned from 2016 onwards no? I'm kinda the same with you in regards to taking a dislike for sportsmen, for a long time it was bubba Watson for most of the reasons you've listed above for Scott lol but you jus can't deny his talent and so I'm slowly turning round but won't fully until after the Ryder cup! Guest Magic
I absolutely love Bubba. He's a great character and I love his unorthidox style. I usually back him in the majors. I never back people I wouldn't like to see win on a personality level, so I don't bet Scott, Mcilroy, Woods, Lee Westwood, Lous Oosteheuizan among others. Yeah the putter will be banned, then we'll see what Scott is made of. He's got plenty of time to adjust so there'll be no excuses when the time comes. Guest Steely
I like Westwood and would like to see him get a major but I think his time has past and he can't putt to save his life which is a shame really *** when's he's on he's a fine player. I don't really like mcilroy but he's gonna have a better chance than most so you might aswell try and make hay while the suns shining lol
BRM 220
Watched a bit this afternoon, Bubba Watson seemed to be in a foul mood. Looks like the storms could interrupt play over the next few days, it's humid out there.
Guest bigmatt
Rory McIlroy is on a real charge at the minute.
Guest Steely
He has been threatening to so something special recently but it's always been that one rogue round that's let him down
Guest Magic
Needing him to come back the way to have any luck I think. I've been unfortunate with the conditions, most of my guys going out this morning and last night when its been toughest. Rory has been quite lucky and he's making hay while he can. Schwartzel going well looks about my best hope at this stage.
Guest Steely
It's hard to pick a golfer to win a tournament so your best bet is ew bets to see any return, unfortunately I don't follow my own advice and jus go for the win lol, I know that willy hills was paying 7 places which is quite good Mcilroy looking good tho and that's gonna force the guys behind him to go out and play aggressively which can come back to bite you on links courses, fascinating day coming up in the third round, dj has posted a great score today as well but I don't think he has the game to win a major
Guest Magic
Most bookies apart from us (Ladbrokes) were paying seven places. I got seven with Paddy. We're offering your money back if your player missed the cut though which isn't a bad deal.

Guest Magic
Yeah I was watching that hoping it went in, thinking that if he missed the cut it would mean a load of free bets for me to deal with. Then I remembered today was my last day for over a fortnight! Yay! :-D
Guest Magic
Charlie Schwartzel's getting on a role! Only a couple behind Rory now! I'm not out of this yet. And I also have Victor Dubiusen each way who's playing nicely. My interest has been dramatically renewed this morning. Rory looks like he could miss a few today, he doesn't seem as confident. Pressure perhaps.

Guest bigmatt
This is getting a lot more interesting than it threatened to be when McIlroy was dominating yesterday.
Guest Magic
My decision not to back Fowler is looking more and more silly by the hole. I still think Rory won't win it. Hopefully Schwartzel and Vicky Dub can finish strongly, they've started to leave a couple out there the last couple of holes. Edit: Rory holes another really good put for par. He's being doing that all day, scrambling up and down really well, his putting getting him out of jail. Its annoying :lol If he win, it'll be because he's putted really well. When he puts well, he often does win, so its ominous. Edited July 19, 2014 by Magic
Guest Steely
Mcilroy and fowler going great guns for me tho I would like fowler to win this as he was double the odds than mcilroy lol, been a great days golf
Chris2K 176
Hooray for Rory. Who knew that breaking off your engagement to the hottest woman in tennis would be so beneficial?
