King 277
I doubt we are going to get another ass whipping in this one but my heart says Argentina but my head says Holland. Ye?
Guest John Hancock
My everything says Holland. Hopefully they're going to follow the Germany system of starting off great, then getting progressively worse, and then being great again in the semi-finals. King 277
Just remember our bet if the Dutch get to the final :D
Guest John Hancock
If the Netherlands lose the final, it'll be far down the list of things I'll be upset about.
Guest Magic
Hopefully an Argentina victory. I'm fairly confident. The scariest Dutch weapon is Van Gaal more than any of their players. If I was betting I'd say 2-1 to the Argies.
DC 536
I picked Netherlands from the start and I'm not going to change now.
Guest dpddave
Just placed a large bet on the Argies at 6/4. That Dutch team is pretty rubbish on paper and they've been blessed to only face Mexico and Costa Rica in the KO rounds. I know they best Spain 5-1 but that was more a Spanish implosion than Dutch brilliance. They'll probably slaughter Argentina now after me saying that. Guest John Hancock
DE JONG'S BACK! See you in a few months Messi, when the ribcage heals.
Guest John Hancock
Butts. Well, at least it wasn't Germany beating the Netherlands, I couldn't have coped, especially as I'd be a German fan in any other game. Cillessen has still never saved a penalty in his entire career. EDIT: Also, for all the ups and downs, and surprises, and dark horses, and Spains, we've still ended up with the exact final that pretty much everyone predicted before the whole things started. Guest Magic
Would have preferred it to be done in 90 mins, but I'll take them qualifying. Just hope Germnay can win it now and that'll be a successful tournament.
Guest Jayfunk
Personally i think there is a lot of pluses from last nights game for the dutch: * They couldn't have defended better shutting out Argentina for 120 mins * Messi was controlled all game he barely featured * The inexperienced defense and keeper have gain a whole tourement worth of experience and they looked much more solid than they did at the begginning of the tourement I think if they keep the same group then by the time the euros come around they will have a good chance. from a united fan LVG can now go to united and hopefully build a team out of united, doesn't have to have the best players in the world just the best team that working together
Guest John Hancock
I don't think there's any way this is the same squad that plays in the Euros. I don't want it to be either, that would be short sighted. Next World Cup, there's going to be no Van Persie, no Huntelaar, no Robben, no Sneijder, no Kuyt, no De Jong, no Vorm. This is the peak for this squad, they need to start rebuilding instantly. There's positives in this squad, going forward; Cillessen, Martins-Indi, de Vrij, Veltman, Blind, Wijnaldum, Classie, but there's also a huge amount of potential outside the squad that need to be bought in as quick as possible to be ready for when the 30+ year old leave. Ake, Van Aanholt and Van Ginkel at Chelsea, Rekik at City, Locadia, Bruma, Maher, Narsingh and Willems at PSV, Vermeer and Klaassen at Ajax, Vilhena at Feyenoord, Castaignos at Twente. I hope to see some big, dramatic changes at the Euros, there's a golden generation of Dutch talent that isn't just wingers and strikers ready to meet it's potential if the team are willing to take a loss. The problem will be Blind as manager. An assistant coming up to be full-manager, he's going to have to play for a win, for the sake of his reputation, but I don't think that's the right thing to do. As much as I'd love to see RVP, Robben and Sneijder lifting a cup, any cup, as a trio, I think playing for Euro '16 jeopardises the Dutch position in World Cup '18. Guest Jayfunk
I was mainly referring to Cillessen, Martins-Indi, de Vrij, Veltman, Blind, Wijnaldum, Classie, although i think Martins-Indi is god awful so anyone better would be nice
