who do you think are the most overrated and underrated stars ever. and do wrestling deaths sometimes make us think the wrestler was better than he/she was. i ask this because i always seen owen hart as a mid carder but since his death people had made out he the potential of a main eventer.

I'm not sure you can say Arn is underrated, he's constantly put over as the most talented of the horseman and an in ring general.

for me the most underrated guy ever was the Ultimate Warrior who definitely got screwed in terms of legacy until his death when suddenly a lot of people were very keen to be nice about him.

I don't know about that, I think Arn never got his due rewards as Flair was always seen as the workhorse of the group, where I really think Tully & Arn carried the Horsemen.

He might be put over by the fans and his peers now but back in the day he was always seen as a tag guy really.

See I look at Dc's underrated list and I'd say only Shane Douglas on that list as someone who the majority of people don;t rate or didn't rate at some point. What's the definition of underrated we're using here? That they weren't/aren't used to their full potential or that generally the perception of them as workers isn't great by most fans but probably should be. Because Regal is seen by just about everybody as an amazing worker, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone say otherwise so how is he underrated? Roode was and probably still is the best talent in TNA. Haku/Meng maybe underrated but generally you see him being put over in a positive light.

Warrior had a good gimmick but I would disagree. He was not a great worker or talker. He was carried to his best feuds by good workers. I don't see why people's opinions changed just because sadly he has passed away.

Puro sucks. The end.

And "Puro" is?

I'm assuming you mean Japanese Professional Wrestling, but I'm also willing to give you the chance to prove to me that you're not actually insane.

Of course I mean Japanese Professional Wrestling. And yes, i think it sucks. I can't stand it. It bores the life out of me.

Fighting spirit, stiff as f*ck, no selling, lack of angles, the commentary, I could go on about why I hate it.

(Feeling a split thread on "what do you think of Puro?" Coming on Hancock.)

Thanks for the clarification on that point.

And while I fully respect the opinions of others, it's still a positive thing that you're willing to hold your hand up and admit that you're insane!:lol

I would be surprised if I was the only one here who doesn't like it. There are certainly people who do like it, but last time Puro came up I'm sure there was a few people who didn't like it.

I view Professional Wrestling as a soap opera for men (and woman, I ain't no sexist). People on this site who know me well will know I like watching Wrestling for angles, characters, promo's and storylines. The action that takes place in the ring is without question the least important factor. Don't get me wrong, I love a great match. But only if it means something, if it has a good angle behind it, which I personally don't get out of Japanese stuff. I couldn't just watch a random match without having followed a good story up to it, even if Dave Meltzer has rated the match 17 stars. I can't connect to any of the Puro wrestlers, it just seems all kind of pointless.

And then just to add to all that, I do often really, really hate some of the in ring styles. American Indies are guilty of it to, but I cannot abide no selling and fighting spirit.

You make some good points there, and I wonder if some of the guys who became famous in the US for non-selling (i.e. The Road Warriors) picked up the habit whilst they were over there?

For me there's a time and a place for most things, like with films when sometimes you want a comedy and others a drama is the way to go.

Maybe I have a plate in my head, but I can appreciate the physicality of Puro at times and one of my fondest wishes is to see a show at the Budokan Hall.

But another aspect of the attraction I feel is for characters like Jushin Liger and the ability he has to tell a story in the ring, so there's more to it than just watching two Japanese hard-men belting each other until you could play Sudoku on the welts across their chests.

I completely understand that I'm pretty much in the minority when it comes to my preferences in wrestling. It's something that's been discussed with the TWO Podcast team before. I get that the story telling of a match is important and interesting, but for me it's just the least important factor. My favourite type of matches are brawl styles, maybe with weapons, hopefully going out of the ring and around the arena a bit. The Shield/Evolution matches for example I love. Give me that over an ordinary match between two great technicians or workers.

But that's just the way I go. I watch WWE for my storyline soap opera stuff. And then I'll watch UFC when I want to see some grown men kick the sh*t out of each other! :lol

Having said that, WWE is boring the crap out of me lately too.

MMA falls into the same category for me as boxing, in that I have almost no interest whatsoever in watching a contest that (for me at least) boils down to two individuals trying to batter each other into unconsciousness. That's one of the main reasons I hate Rusev's gimmick, as the only time there's ever been a happy relationship between MMA and pro-wrestling is in the case of Brock Lesnar (and even then it's happiest for him on account of the millions being stuffed into his shorts by the WWE for each appearance).

I only recently became interested in the WWE again when they booked the Shield so well and reminded me what it was like to see an entity promoted and protected at the same time and then the benefits being reaped so richly afterwards.

Yeah Japanese wrestling is the shits. The fact they are purposely hitting each other as hard as they can in a fake business says alot. But whatever, lots of people like it and Lucha, which is the worst type of wrestling going. Awful, stupid nonsense.

As for overrated/underrated...

Overrated:

Ric Flair (Best ever my ass, not even close!)

Bret Hart

CM Punk

Jericho

Underrated:

Ultimate Warrior

Demolition (1st 3-time WWF tag champs, longest title reign ever to this day, never get mentioned unless some idiot wrongfully says they were LOD impostors etc)

Rick Rude

Marty Jannetty (Criminally underrated)

I wouldn't say that I'm anti-Puro/Strong Style, just (like anything else) there's a time and a place for head drops and fighting spirit. It starts to bother me when it's thrown into every match for no real reason, no real psychological benefit, and it just becomes the norm.

Same as high spots in the indies. If you're busting out 450 splashes in nothing matches in front of 5 people, then why should it seem like a big deal? Guys need to learn the correct time and place to do these things, otherwise it just cheapens the whole experience.
