Sky sports 5 will launch 12 August it will show the Dutch league one matches, the champions league, the Spanish games, copa Italia and all of England's qualifying matches. I think it will be great and I can see some Ajax matches again. Sky are making it hard now to make me watch normal tv just sport happy about this. It is free channel to all Sky customers.

Finally, the Eredivisie on British T.V. Just in time to see Ajax giving a shit about winning European games again if rumours are to be believed.

Awesome idea! I've been wanting a football only Sky Sports channel ever since they dedicated one to people driving round a track, like I can't go and stand on the bridge near my house and watch the bypass, it's exactly the same.

I don't really follow the Eredivisie so it'll be perfect for getting clued up on it, se with BBVA and Italian football. Great news all round.

Two years free Sky Broadband is simply there for Sky customers not to sign up with BT Broadband for free BT Sport when the Champions League starts on it next season. Nice try Sky.

So just to get this straight...

I have Virgin right now, so I have Virgin broadband and BT Sports 1 and 2. I also pay a premium on top of that for Sky Sports, including F1. I'm assuming that on August 12th I'll just get Sky Sports 5, right?

Hopefully so.

Cheers!

I think so, if I'm reading this correctly:

Virgin Media TV customers will have access to Sky Sports 5

New Sky Sports channel will be available to Virgin Media TV subscribers.

Virgin Media will be offering the new Sky Sports 5 channel as part of its television bundles, it has been confirmed.

The service provider - which offers Sky Sports as part of a number of triple and quad-play packages - will be upgrading its offering with the new channel.

This means Virgin Media TV customers will be able to watch up to 600 European and international football matches per season on Sky Sports 5, which launches on Thursday June 12th.

They will have access to the news channel in both standard and high definition, in line with their package subscription.

Sky Sports 5 will become the home of the Euro 2016 qualifiers, the UEFA Champions League, and action from La Liga, the Coppa Italia, Copa del Rey and Eredivisie.

Viewers will also be able to watch shows including 'Revista De La Liga' and 'Champions League Weekly' on the new channel.

Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said Sky Sports 5 will take his firm's "unrivalled live football coverage" to the next level.

He claimed there has "never been a better time" to be a Sky Sports subscriber.

UEFA Champions League just for one season only though and Thursday 12th JUNE? really?? If they can't get the date right (Tuesday 12th August), then I'm not sure I trust this shoddy piece of journalism.

I'm not "activating" it through the red button. I fear a hidden secret, yet binding contract renewal/upgrade somewhere.

See trying to explain that to Shawn? :D

"yeah there was only 4 channels, and they went off air"

"what did they show then?"

"nothing"

"yeah but what was it?"

"NOTHING"

Don't even try to explain there was no dedicated sports news channel or channels for just cartoons :p
