Why? What's so terrible about him as a colour commentator (other than that he's much more fun as a heel)? That's his job and to occasionally be the target of the heels.

Personally he's not someone I enjoy listening too anymore, 97-2001 he was acceptable and with it. I could say that about Cole an JBL too, not that they need to move on but the WWE commentary table is looking a little stale at the moment

WWE commentary does suck, but that's not a new thing and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon. There's not really a quick fix, they probably need a total overhaul of all the main shows.

 

If Punk is serious about not wanting to wrestle anymore, I'd love him at the desk down the line at some point.

I'd say JBL is more of a problem than The King in terms of crap commentary. I've never liked Michael Cole anyway, I;d much prefer it if they got rid of Cole and got Josh Matthews in to be the straight play by play guy with JBL heeling it up and Lawler being face if they are going to insist of having a three way table. I'd happily take Lawler providing colour and a normal play by play guy over the in joke cluster-f*ck that is the current line up.

There's something irritating about Cole and I think it's because he's got this aura like he's "one of the boys", you know? Like Michael Cole thinks he is as important as any wrestler.

 

The most irritating thing about WWE commentary is that they can;t decide on whether people are heel colour or face colour, it's one of the few places where those strict definitions of the guy who likes the good guys and the guy who praises the bad guys should definitely exist. JBL who mocks Dolph Ziggler but then cheers John Cena before calling out Jack Swagger for cheating doesn't work.

Yeah I've noticed that too, going back to the early 00's you'd have one commentator heel one a face and the formula worked.

 

I find Cole smarmy and heelish most of the time and yes he does seem to think he's some pivotal part of the WWE machine

You can go back a lot further than that, with the original WrestleMania having a face play-by-play and a heel colour commentator. I'm sure Monsoon & Ventura were doing their thing on TV then too.

Honestly, and i am sure to get heat for that, but i thin, when Cole is able to just provide match commentary he is actually quite good. I am much more annoyed with JBL than with Cole. And Jerry… well, he somehow does not play any important role anymore, except to provide for the occasional laugh, and then again also the occasional yawn.. so neither good, nor really bad. But JBL annoys me, and i am not sure if it is WWEs way of telling him how to work, or because he has lost it. The NXT team is actually providing better work. Let JBL be exchanged with William Regal i say, and i think i would be a happy man^^

King needs to retire and go back to funding the Memphis crime syndicate. Cole and JBL need to move to Vermont and get married since they're obviously gay for each other. They can do podcasts all they want just stay out of wrestling. Josh, Regal and Renee should be full time commentary for Raw and Smackdown.

It's probably an unpopular opinion but I don't like listening to Regal on commentary. He's fine most of the time but he goes into unnecessary detail far too often on the most insignificent of things and it leaves me thinking "...really?". I just don't care. A wrestler will use, I don't know, a wrist lock or whatever, and he'll give us a 5 minute explanation of how it can cause a scaphoid fracture, how the metatarsals are twisted and so on. It's a bit excessive and usually annoying.

 

The commentary team would probably be fine if they weren't scripted. JBL used to be great, Lawler was always quick witted and Cole wasn't as bad as he is now, though they're so tame at the moment. They should be three charismatic, well spoken, knowledgeable guys, just let them get on with saying what they want. If they are going to be instructed, tell Cole to stop shouting things like "THE KNEE!!! THE KNEE!!! THE KNEE!!! KNEE!!! KNEE!!! KNEE!!! BRYAN WITH THE KNEE!!! KNEE!!! THE KNEE!!!". It's terrible to listen to.

That Cole crap is one of the reasons I can't take pro wrestling seriously anymore or even watch it and it's bumming me out because I love the Shield but I just cannot bring myself to watch wrestling for a variety of reasons and one of the major one is Micheal f*cking Cole.
