Guest smartmark00
If after the conclusion of Payback you were handed the reigns to the creative control of WWE what 5 changes would you make between June 2014 and December 31st 2014.........? I don't watch wwe anymore so apologies in advance for any mistakes but 1.Number 1 with a bullet i would make wwe tv14 or a mature rating i am not saying wwe should be blood guts gore and swearing all the time only sometimes but blood adds drama and heat to matches and it is very good to have diversity. 2.I would turn john cena heel make him a huge heel have him saying he got all his money from your kids and he doesnt care about the fans at all etcetera something like that or fire him and blackball him from wrestling forever i would do a benoit erase job on him forever. 3.I would bring back the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and attempt to make it better than before i would scout all new cruiserweights from all over the world and give them long matches and promote them maybe have a tournement. 4.I would abolish divas from wwe everywhere forever this means no matches no segments no belt, no one would miss it and would make more time for people who really have talent. 5.I would scout brand new upcoming wrestlers big and small from everywhere who have talent and have storylines ready and i would make all matches longer (tv.house shows, ppv) 5 min matches do not get people over.I would have less talking more wrestling and i would listen to the crowd to see what works. On another note, a longer match does not automatically equal a better match and as for 5min matches not getting people over; they have been used to get people over for decades. The old squash matches you used to get on WWE TV were usually sub-5mins and were exclusively used to get people over. Plus, Goldberg and (to a lesser extent) Ryback made their names on sub-5min matches. The five changes I would make are -: 1) Take strides to genuinely teach John Cena how to act serious and also make him drop the goofy shit. It does nobody any favours. 2) Promote NXT on the main shows. Feature a small recap of what went on that week on NXT, have vignettes showcasing an NXT talent and if something big happens on NXT, such as a title change or a major turn (either way), then mention it on RAW / Smackdown and even air footage. That way, when someone comes up to the main roster as their fully-formed NXT characters, people will understand better. 3) Unify the IC and US titles. 4) Make sure all tag-teams have a tag-team finisher. Whether it's a rehash of something that has come before or a completely new move, they should all have that one big finish that makes them stand out. 5) Sit the commentators down with DVDs of Monsoon / Heenan and Moonson / Ventura and educate them on how a bickering duo should operate. If wrestlers should watch as much wrestling as they can (and they most definitely should) from both around the world and from the annuls of time, then the commentators should do likewise. 5a) Allow the referees to have names and personalities again. Not to the point of being characters in storylines (unless absolutely necessary), but at least let us know who they are. Let the fans get a feeling for which refs will let things slide a bit more, which refs are strict with the rules, etc.
Evil Gringo 279
I know what you mean about the referee situation - if they go out of their way to mention a referee now and any aspect of their character then I ultimately think, oh no - screw job coming. After so many years of being bland figures in the background every week as soon as they make a peep about one in particular without highlighting the rest then it just seems of fishy. But my changes... 1) Have Cena actually lose a feud and need to come back and take a journey, as the excellent W101 article states... 2) Book Bryan v Lesnar once Bryan is fit and healthy for SummerSlam to give Bryan something different outside of the Authority feud and to allow him to be the conquering hero again after all this pap with Kane 3) I agree with DC, give the tag team proper finishers. They all do in NJPW and it gives the teams more identity and adds to the mantra that tag team wrestling is for specialist workers and is built on teamwork and that a good team in combination and in synch with each other can beat two superstars - thus making tag team wrestling more relevant again. 4) Listen to the fans more because we pay the bills. We may only be spokes on the wheel but lose enough of them and the wheel will stop turning 5) Stop using the announce team to shill and actually get them to seem invested in the action. Product placement is for advertisements, announce teams are for building matches.
Guest fattyfudge
1. Hand Yoshi Tatsu the WWE World Heavyweight championship 2. Make a dynamic Shield vs 3MB fued that will be put into the history books 3. Bring back JR! Or actually a half decent play by play commentator than Cole selling stuff 24/7 4. Separate the RAW/Smackdown rosters again, making each show different and ultimately the PPV's more interesting 5. Replace Diva matches with wet T-Shirt contests each week
Guest BeorimJ
1. Hand Yoshi Tatsu the WWE World Heavyweight championship You Sir are a hero! My 5 changes: 1: Try to let people show more of what they can do, rather than limiting them to a 4-move set. Like have a least 1 move that can be exchanged on a weekly basis (i understand the concept of being recognizable, but not to an extent that you can practically tell the whole match before it has started) 2: Get more work done towards making them cut good promos (like they do in NXT) - if someone is bad at promos, just put that into matches instead of promos. 3: change the dynamic of the commentators. My pick (as stated on another thread): JBL (and maybe also King) out, Regal in. Possibility: JBL and King do Smackdown, Cole and Regal Raw. 4: make sure that Divas that step in the ring know their way around a few more moves, then let them show what they can do (like it is more or less being done in NXT). 5: Get rid of the US-Belt, but get the Cruiserweight Belt going again. Guest Ciaran The King
1. In one swoop I'd sign Prince Devitt, Adam Cole, Kevin Steen, The Young Bucks and Ricochet. 2. Unify the IC & US titles 3. I would not have Cena turn heel but do what Hogan did in 1996 and completely overhaul his character.....making him cool 4. I would have Roman Reigns defeat Triple H at Summerslam and therefore triggering his push to win the Rumble 5. I'd have Rollins or Ambrose win the MITB and cash in at Wrestlemania
dsrchris 190
Okay, my 5 changes: 1. More Renee Young. Put her on the desk for Smackdown, use her for backstage and in ring interviews on Raw. 2. Unify the midcard titles, reinstate the cruiserweight division, but pitch it to be more like the X-Division circa 2005. 3. Stop scripting EVERYTHING. Keep a loose script for the show, only give guys bulletpoints to riff on for their promos. Let the wrestlers attempt to establish their character themselves instead of ramming catchphrase after catchphrase down people's throats. 4. Set up WrestleMania 31 to be a "changing of the guard" so to speak. The entire card is some variation of old school vs. next generation. Use guys like Triple H, Batista, Orton, Brock, Cena, possibly Taker, Kane, Show & Henry to put over the young guys and make them seem like legitimate threats. We've got to start phasing out the old guys and building up the new guys at some point. 5. Make NXT more prominent. Don't just drop someone from NXT onto the main shows without any kind of build up or fanfare. In fact, I'd dedicate a 5 minute segment of Raw each week to do something like "the one to watch" and showcase an NXT talent. Let the audience get to know who these people are before they just randomly appear on their TV.
Omega 354
Ok so I think I'd want to: 1) Have a "New Blood" faction from NXT and/or the underused guys on the roster and I'd have it as a very lose amalgamation of people, not a Shield\Nexus type faction where they do everything together. Say they all wear an Armband or something as identification and will generally back each other up. I'd probably put someone like Cody or Dolph as the leader, Cody I think could do a small reprise as the faction leader with something akin to his dashing cody rhodes gimmick. 2) Give the tag champs feuds rather than random opponents. 3) Really try hard to improve the quality of the Diva's division, not just in the ring but generally on the mic and in skits. I think it's possible to have an engaging female division if it's treated seriously enough and the time taken to make it less about T and A. 4) I'd have someone take out Cena for 3 months and use that time to see what does and doesn't work without the distraction of having to maintain a Cena presence. I think Cena won't be hurt by the time off, can heal and do lots of good PR work for the WWE in that time. Lets find out who is going to sink or swim when given the ultimate responsibility. 5) Get rid of Michael Cole and give someone else a chance, play by play shouldn't be attempting to be another colour commentator other than be a balance to the heel commentator's obvious bias. If you keep Lawler as the face colour side of things then Play By Play should be the gear that keeps the commentary flowing allowing the colour guys to interject with their lines. Also no one is ever allowed to use the word "Vintage" before a wrestlers last name ever again, ever.

We've got to start phasing out the old guys and building up the new guys at some point. In the review for WrestleMania XXX on wrestling101.com (shameless shill alert), I make mention of how I felt that the show was a big passing of the torch onto the newer talents. The reasons for this were -: Hogan, Austin & Rock coming out to essentially give us one last moment with them. Austin then says how there is a locker-room of young guys ready to make their moment. . Cesaro winning the Battle Royal over Big Show. . Triple H putting over Daniel Bryan as part of his run to the title. . The Shield decimating Kane & The New Age Outlaws. . Brock ending The Streak. Not so much passing the torch to Lesnar, but passing the torch from WrestleMania past to WrestleMania future because WrestleMania XXXI will be the first for the majority of fans without a Streak match on the card to fall back on. Sure, the early ones weren't billed as such and both WMX and WM16 missed out due to injury, but it is definitely a new era. . Daniel Bryan winning the title and leaving WM as champion. The only real misstep in that was John Cena defeating Bray Wyatt and perhaps I'm looking at it from too simple a viewpoint, but there was a definite feel (for me at least) that there was a collective passing-of-the-torch across the majority of the event.
