I think you've discovered the only sentence in the English language that would annoy Communists and Margaret Thatcher equally.

From Digital Spy:

Web filters will go further than porn, says Open Rights Group

A report has found that the government's proposed web filters may block more than pornography.

Details obtained by digital freedom campaigner Open Rights Group claim that the block will extend into other content including violent material and smoking.

The group spoke to a number of internet service providers about the filter, discovering that the block could include nine other categories.

Extremist and terrorist-related content, anorexia and eating disorder websites and suicide-related websites are mentioned, as well as alcohol, web forums, esoteric material and web blocking circumvention tools.

The Open Rights Group objects to the proposed filter as it believes people stick with defaults.

"What's clear here is that David Cameron wants people to sleepwalk into censorship," the group's executive director Jim Killock said in a blog post.

"The essential detail is that they will assume you want filters enabled across a wide range of content, and unless you un-tick the option, network filters will be enabled. As we've said repeatedly, it's not just about hardcore pornography."

Several media commentators and technology experts have already criticised the feasibility of web filters.

What was our Prime Ministers name again? Sounds a bit like Stalin...

How the **** we've got to the point of opt-out censorship while still having opt-in organ donation is a mystery to me. It implies that what people **** to is more important to the government than whether people actually live or die.

Particularly when you bear in mind that this is just a furtherment of their previous ridiculousness that fake images of rape or degradation of women (like Madonnas Sex) somehow cause rape. Now access to porn causes ****ing. Because there hasn't been a teenage pregnancy problem in Britain for decades.

Plus, the abnegation of parental responsibility and all that.

See that's exactly what I was worried about. Goddammit.

Same here, especially as you can all but guarantee that the suicide and eating disorders filter will block prevention sites people need too.

EDIT: And what Etz said too butI think you've gone to the wrong wing for your dictator, though I would have gone with Franko, just for the relative obscurity

They tried all this stuff over here. For years they tried to do it. In the end, the plans were scrapped, and they instead made a filter that blocks only child porn, using a police database or something. Either way, the 'block everything' filter didn't work here, so I don't know if it will happen in the UK.

Honestly, I highly suspect that Cameron is just playing the "protect the children/family values" card in an attempt to win back the support lost over his support for marriage equality even though it wouldn't work against anyone who has any kind of ill intent as they'd just use a mountain of proxies or a darknet to bypass any UK version of the Great Firewall.

I'm calling bullshit on that Open Rights thing, seeing that Cameron has been a big supporter of the tobacco industry, and flirted with rolling back a lot of the British anti-smoking laws, like removing warnings from cigarette packets, it seems a bit much that he's now suddenly banning pictures of it.
