The Un-Der-Tay-Ker!

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that The Undertaker during his time off had both another shoulder and hip operation. His recovery is on schedule, and is on board with doing a match at Wrestlemania 28. In fact, WWE has a plan for Undertaker’s match to be the number two match on the show, only behind the obvious main of event of The Rock vs. John Cena.

Realistically, it's simply the time for this to be the last match for the undertaker...all the operations and time outs are harming his match quality, and as much as the WWE can hide his new weaknesses as much as they can, the time has come for the deadman to rest once and for all.

I certainly hope he recognises this ahead of time...he's a smart enough guy behind the scenes, and shouldn't fall into the trap of overdoing it beyond his capabilities until it's too late.

They're what?

Seriously? He had the MOTY in 2009 and 2010. This year's one match is a MOTYC. Whenever he's been around in the meantime he's been good - Chambers, Rey at the Rumble, Shelton on TV, Punk on TV, etc. The only bad matches I can think of are the Kane ones, but dear God, its hard to blame him for that. Not sure where thats coming from.

Not saying anything that he's done has been horrible or anything like that...but you can probably argue a reasonable case that the matches he's been in have probably not always been to the same standard as a few years ago - This is mostly down to his injury list, more than anything else to do with the man himself.

But again, I dont see it. Whenever he's been around in 09-11 (I'm not sure where you draw the line so thats mine) he's been pretty great, with exceptional big matches. I dont think there's any point during this run where I watched him and thought "If only he wasnt so injured this would be better", except maybe, again, the Kane feud, but getting something out of Kane is hard at the best of times.

He was great in 2007-08 and he was around more then, but I'd argue he's been far, far better now than he was in, say, 2003-06, when he was around more and injured less. So I really dont think his injuries have affected the quality of his work. Only his schedule.

But he's still better than they were when he was actually young and healthy, so I don't see what injuries or age have to do with anything, and he's still better than 98-100% of every other match in North America.

He had the match of the year in 2009, and in 2010, and he's had a candidate for match of the year in 2011. He also had candidates in 2008, and in 2007, and, before then, well, I can't remember many great matches that weren't over reliant on gimmicks, like the first two PPV Hell in a Cells. He's gone from having bad matches in the mid-90's to good but gimmick heavy matches in the late-90's, to good matches it the early-00's, to MOTY contenders in the mid-00's, to actual MOTY's in the late-00.

If there's a downward pattern anywhere in that, I'm missing it.

If this is gonna truly be undertakers last match then it should b the main event and not cena vs. Rock. The undertaker as it has been said many times is the franchise of this company. He is the most respected and honored man in the locker room by far. His loyalty to wwe should be celebrated when he decides to call it quits. Its no different then when flair did it and hbk did it. Taker deserves that honor more than even those two do. He has created entiore genres of matches that wouldnt have worked without him in them. Buried alive, casket matches, boiler room brawls, and i know that hell in the cell wouldnt have been so infamous if the first two didnt have him in it.

I may sound biased because i am a taker slappy, he is my guy but in reality, he is the most successful wrestler wwe ever had. If it is truly gonna be the last match for the deadman, it shouldnt be overshadowed by anything, not even cena vs. Rock.

If you look back at the last handful of wrestlemanias undertaker matches have stood out as possibly match of the card. Hhh last year, 2 with shawn, edge before that, batista which really benefited batista in my opinion, and one of my favorites and the one where i thought he would actually lose, the one with randy orton. All are great matches and show that he still has it and then some. On the big stage, nobody is better and nobody has delivered more times.

I agree that it should be top billing.

Unless they're promoting a match with the biggest mainstream star in the history of wrestling against the modern day top star in a dream match that has been booked for a whole year and are holding it in the guy's home city. Then I'd be okay with it being knocked into second place.

I really hate to disagree but you cant compare cena vs. Rock and undertakers farewell match. I believe that taker will do like hbk has and truly retire, and neither cena or rock have combined the 20 plus year career like takers. Cena has been on a run since about 2004 and rocks run was from end of 1998 till 2002 sometime.
