Guest Jamster26
I was thinking really, after this whole CM Punk thing and how it went down; who are the most controversial wrestlers? Actually, who are the most controversial figures in wrestling? Could be wrestlers, owners, bookers, etc. And how would you rank them? I think Punk, in the current era, has to be classed as one of the top controversial figures in wrestling? Guest John Hancock
I see your CM Punk and I raise you Muhammed Hasssan.
Paul 584
Sgt Slaughter during his title run! Death threats man, death threats.
Guest Boyo
I see your Mohammed Hassan and raise you... Sergeant Slaughter. Cheers!
Guest John Hancock
Oh, if we're not talking modern, there's loads. Was it Harlem Heat who used to get lead to the ring in chains by a stereotypical Southerner?
Paul 584
Well he did ask 'ever', so I went with a personal favourite. Of course you could add stuff like The Gangstas as well, but they didnt really reach too many people. Or maybe Bruiser Brody?
Guest John Hancock
If the remit is just "controversial", ol' Vinnie Ru's got to be up there.
Guest Jamster26
Yeah, I'll change it. Doesn't have to be the most controversial of all time. :)
Paul 584
Hell forget Russo, theres a more controversial Vince involved in pro wrestling! A man who destroyed traditional wrestling in the States, killed the territory system, stole talent from other feds and got hiimself so hated that other promoters allegedly conspired to have him killed! Guest John Hancock
They aren't as controversial as Vinnie Mac, but, for backstage antics back stage, I'd throw in Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan too.
Paul 584
And HBK of course.

Guest John Hancock
Yeah, but he wasn't controversial for 'restlin', he was controversial for murderin'.
Guest Jimmy Redman
Still. Bill Watts is another one, for many reasons during his WCW run.

Guest Jimmy Redman
As far as characters, Goldust? Billy and Chuck? Its a question because I wouldnt know how controversial they were during their time.
Paul 584
Goldust was a bit, Billy and Chuck not so much. Though I think GLAAD got their knickers in a twist.
Guest Jimmy Redman
They always have their knickers in a twist. Cena is a shout in the sense that he's so polarising, a love him or hate him type. I still think Vince is the most controversial of all, in the end. Guest Boyo
Eugene was definitely a controversial character. Not in the "Slaughter Stakes" but still, eyebrows were raised. Perhaps because he was a comedy character that the controversy was softened? Plus I would say that the "Mexicools" probably fall in to that category, as well as "Kirwin White" (it was Kirwin White, right?). WWE always do "national stereotyping" badly, like Rene Dupree, The Iron Sheikh, Nikolai Volkoff, The Sultan. However they were just lazy annoying stereotypes. Saying that, Kenzo Suzuki p*ssed me off. Not sure why, but he seemed less "lazy stereotype", more "too racist". But still - Sgt Slaughter. :xyx Cheers!
Guest Jimmy Redman
I think if Kerwin White had a higher profile, it would have been hated on a lot more. Its really bad, if you think about it, but the fact that he was a really minor comedy character and it was dropped very quickly since Eddie died saves it from being overly controversial. I loved Eugene, actually, I never had a problem with his portrayal, although I know that other people certainly did.
