Guest Jamster26
Now, apparently, the worlds population is growing at an alarming rate and what I’m asking, is do you think we should have a one child per family policy in place? Really, I’m just looking to the future here. We seem to be “wasting” allot of valuable resources on earth, not that is all our fault but due to the growth, it can’t be avoided. Apparently our food supply, will be in a shorter supply in about 30 years. So, I think we need to make some “drastic” changes, before it’s too late, even though to some, it already is. I think China operates a one child policy so other countries obviously can see the benefits of implementing a policy such as this? I realize it’s quite a drastic question but given the rate we, as a race, are growing and with the carbon and food resources running out, I think we need to do something, in order to combat this and despite the extreme proposition, I think it’s a point worth discussing? What do you think?
Guest Gemsi
That would be all well and good, but what if you have twins, or triplets or like the woman who had 8! What would you do about those people?
etz 78
If it was part of a worldwide agreement, then yes. I don't think there'd be much point in the UK doing it alone, our population is relatively stable. That would be all well and good, but what if you have twins, or triplets or like the woman who had 8! What would you do about those people? Nothing, they're infrequent enough that it's permissable. Also, in the UK a 2 child (ie parental replacement) policy would be fine. Not really necessary though.
Guest John Hancock
Yeah, as Etz said, a one child policy wouldn't maintain the population, it would half it. It would half it every generation. Britain's not a big enough country to start halving the entire population every fews decades, the entire country would collapse within a century or so, and then not enough food would be the least of anyone worries. Add to that, the whole running out of food thing is a little bit of bullshit, considering that there's science that deal with those sort of problems, like ultra-GM farming and stem-cell meat that we just don't bother using right now, because we just don't need to. Britain's population is very, very stable and is no threat to the country. There's absolutely no need for drastic Maoist style madness just yet. etz 78
Actually, feeding the population isn't a problem at all, all the way upto about 20 billion people. By which I mean, we have to make no production advances at all, all we have to do is switch to a vegetarian diet. The US alone produces enough grain to feed everyone on the planet, if we stopped drinking milk and eating meat. Fresh water is much more of a concern, and actually a really serious one. Maxximus 353
I'll never stop drinking milk and eating meat. Sure, maybe that's selfish of me and I may die before I'm fifty but so what? I'd just be one less mouth to feed. That's my contribution to world hunger. Eat what ever the hell I want to until I am dead.
Guest John Hancock
I actually don't think meat will production will be a problem in the future. They can already grow meat in test tubes using stem cells. I'd actually love that to become mainstream, because, if that was an option, I'd give up vegetarianism over night, because conscious animals wouldn't be being slaughtered anymore. Maxximus 353
They can also be genetically engineered to taste better too. I may be a conspiracy guy, but I'm all for GM meats. I'll start to bitch about it once we find out Soylent Green is people. Well, depends on how it tastes really. I wonder what human bacon tastes like? Guest John Hancock
GM's also way better for the environment (when it's done responsibly, of course), because you can grow more in a smaller area, meaning you don't have to chop down forests for farmland. I'm a pretty big pro-GM guy too.
Paul 584
If we dont start to colonise other planets then I see some kind of family restriction happening in the next 200 years or so.
Guest Saz
Perhaps they should experiement with the backdoor option?
DC 536
There's been a report (I'll try and find it) that said in the next ten years, there will be up to SIXTY MILLION more males than females in China (and, I believe, India) because of the sex-selective abortion that takes place due to the "one child" rule. That alone will be a drastic situation as there will be a extremely large amount of men who will be the end of their family's lineage simply because there won't be a female partner for him to be with. Even taking into account those that are gay, it's still a hell of an imbalance. EDIT - There's a story about it here. You can also find another article here and here. etz 78
And now you know how China "conquers" the world.... the men leave to live somewhere they have a hope of finding a woman.
Guest Saz
But asian men aren't very sexy, not like asian women are. Let's face it, porn cators for most fetishes and we've all seen some eye watering stuff involving cups and the like. But i've never come across any porn with an asian guy as the stud.
