Talk Wrestling Online Community Update

By Jimmy Redman

Yes folks, despite it probably being closer now to 2010 than 2008, despite the fact that I cant remember what happened on Raw 2 weeks ago, let alone 12 months ago, and despite that we no longer even care about 2008 because so far 2009 has been SO MUCH BETTER ...cough, nevertheless, lets vote for the very best and the very worst of that wacky year of 2008.

Just clicky this here LINK..

..and VOTE for your favourites. And not so favourites. I just did it and it took less than 60 seconds, honestly. So you'll be back on here before any new posts are even up. I promise.

Voting closes midnight on the 15th of February, the night of No Way Out.

In case you missed it, here's another LINK!

So TWO, get voting~!

(Because if you dont, you'll have to rely on things like the PWI 500 or the Slammy winners, or worse...the Observer, to preserve our memories of the year. And nobody wants that.)

Editor's Picks of the Fortnight

I haven't picked up a book all year. How awful is that? However, sat by my bed is a very funny book called The Secret Life of A Slummy Mummy by Fiona Neill. I think someone stole my life and put it in a book.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. I finally got around to watching this last night. While it may not be to everyones taste, the way it was shot and the music used made a serial killer movie come across very romantic. I recommend it to those who like their films quirky!

This week I am mostly listening to Chinese Democracy.

Well, with all the talk on here about it, I will have to say http://www.twitter.com I have become quite addicted to it and appear to be stalking Stephen Fry a little too much for my own liking.

Meet The Team

What has been your favourite wrestling couple?

Al Stevens: Randy Savage and Elizabeth.

DC: DDP and Kimberly Page.

Inno: Perry Saturn and Moppy.

Kam: Hmmmm...Goldust/Luna

Laffy: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. I really bought into the relationship and was totally confused when they divorced on screen but marrried in real life. That was one of the first non kayfabe moments I experience in wrestling.

Nimf: I'm loving Santino and Beth Phoenix right now-they're funny and cute at the same time.

How about your favourite non-wrestling couple?

Al Stevens: Spiderman and MJ.

DC: Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron from the film 'Sweet November'.

Inno: Me and Emily Deschanel in my dreams... sigh.

Kam: Penny/Desmond from LOST.

Laffy: Lenny Henry and Dawn French. It just works. I love the idea that these two fell for each other, although also loved Helen and Paul when they fell for each other in Big Brother.

Nimf: It would have to be a couple like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins-a couple who have lasted for ages without a whole lot of drama. They have such love for each other, it's intoxicating!

What are you getting me for Valentines Day?

Al Stevens: Erm I haven't got a clue.

DC: That, my dear wife, is a secret.

Inno: BWAH hahaha! Nice try, missy!

Kam: A guest editor's spot for the Talk Wrestling Online Newsletter...I'm so generous!

Laffy: How about an I Owe you! That way when im not skint i can get you anything you want within reason!!!

Nimf: I will be getting me a large bar of Galaxy chocolate and a bottle of milk with DC's money.

My First Crush

My first crush was a girl called Rachel, she was new to school and was the first girl who was actually nice to me, instead of my usual crowd of abusive females (a trait shared by later girlfriends it appears).

We ended up going out until her gay friend decided it was best to drive a wedge between us.

The gay kid left and she turned into a right slapper.

Inno's BIIIG Question

Well, Helllllo ladies...

It's the BIIIIIIIIIIIG question, and seeing as Nimf is the Guest Editor, today's edition is totally 100% female. Actual real females, not just wannabes, sorry Ray.

Anyhow... This time with a feminine leaning, I figure the BIIIIIIIIIIG question had to be the same. Granted, I know plenty of questions I'd like to ask the fine, FINE ladies of TWO but at least 90% would get me slapped, 70% would get me banned, and possibly 20% would get me arrested, I figured I'd play it safe - so this time, I want to know:

"Who was your first big celebrity teen crush on?"

You may still be in with a chance for Harrison, I hear he goes for 'em younger than him...

My First Crush

I was about 8-9 years old. She was called Nicola and she was in my class at school. I remember I had a crush on her for about 3 years! For one valentines my mum made me a little cardboard box and I put a Rolo and a note in the box... the note said 'This is my last one'.

Yeah, she didnt fall for it. :lol

These days she looks like a smackrat, so I grew out of that one in plenty of time. :P

Member Spotlight

Well hello everybody! Welcome to a very special Valentines edition of the member spotlight!:wub

Fiona: My name is Fiona and I was just surfing the web one day and found this site. I've been haunting it ever since.

Natalieeee: Natalie and I searched on Google for WWE forums and came across this one lol.

Miss T: Found it through the Amy Dumas fan site (very proud member!) chatroom millions of years ago!

Jimmy Redman: Hello there, I am Jimmy Redman and I'm a...girl? I'm shocked. Man, I dont know about breaking kayfabe like this. Anywho, I think I found TWO by Googling "wrestling forum" or something, it was over four years ago though so I dont remember.

Shane O Mac: Helloooooo! I'm Emma. Found TWO from Nat...we were at a hotel in London, she was already signed up, I saw it...it looked good, so I joined a week or so later :)

Nicole: Found the chatroom from smash, and joined the forums when the new ones came into place.

Laffy: Laffy. I was surfing wrestling sites and googled a forum I was looking for, and TWO came up. I guest surfed for two years then summoned up the courage to join and the rest is history.

Fiona: The people. A online forum is only as good as the people that visit it. This one has the nicest bunch on the net. And some of the most knowledgable to boot. You can have a real debate here and the people really know their stuff.

Natalieeee: The people :-D

Miss T: Boredom, habit andddddd I think thats about it.

Jimmy Redman: A lot of things. Habit, first of all. There are more intelligent and decent people on here than anywhere else I've seen. And mostly I like being able to ramble and argue about wrestling, because I can't do it in real life.

Shane O Mac: The people :) Everyone is super-nice and its one of the best boards I've been on. Good topics, good discussions and its about wrestling...what more could you ask for? :lol

Nicole: Been here for donkeys!

Laffy: The community feel. I think I have made a few friendships here I would miss if I left.

Fiona: Yes. I have to say I am.

Natalieeee: Just a little bit!

Miss T: Thats a negative.

Jimmy Redman: Most definitely.

Shane O Mac: I am indeed! Only WWE, but I love it!

Nicole: Nope.

Laffy: Massive! I have over 2800 wrestling dvds and videos dating back to the late 80's. Have moved into ROH and NOAH as well as 1PW.

Fiona: Don't know really. Some of the storylines are a bit out there but it's great fun to watch and takes me out of my life for a couple of hours a week. Plus it's one of the only things my son and I watch together.

Natalieeee: Just the whole thing really, can't really pick anything specific! I hate sports really but I can cope with this one because you get the entertainment aswell. I just love it, don't really know how to describe it really but I don't know what I'd do with it!

Miss T: I used to enjoy EVERYTHING about it!

Jimmy Redman: Oh, you know, John Cena, Divas, Matt and Jeff Hardy, Glamarella, Divas, Smackdown, Vickie Guerrero, Stephanie McMahon, and Divas. The usual.

Shane O Mac: Everything really! Theres not much I don't like really...it has its ups-and-downs, but everything does.

Nicole: Nothing, obviously :)

Laffy: I love technical wrestling like the stuff Benoit did. I also love the cruisers but mainly if you miss something so badly that you feel something is missing if you're not watching wrestling then you know you have to watch it. Everytime I think i'm going to stop watching something like Rey winning or Orton punting Vince draws me back.

Fiona: Love Vicki G. So anything she's involved in is a treat. Gotta stay with the ladies theme here guys.

Natalieeee: I didn't have a clue what to put here lol I guess the whole Austin/McMahon thing but everyone knows about that anyways!

Miss T: None that people wouldnt have already seen.

Jimmy Redman: Trish and Mickie, Mickie and Trish, and that one where it was Trish with Mickie. For the feud and the matches. I may have possibly mentioned this before somewhere.

Oh and Matt Hardy and MVP on Smackdown was a fantastic angle. As for a match, Cena/Umaga at the Rumble.

Shane O Mac: The TLC matches are pretty damn good...as are most ladder matches...what a boring answer!

Laffy: Old stuff-Flair vs Steamboat, Austin/Mcmahon and everyone has to see Flair vs HHH cage match (Taboo Tuesday where Flair gave Trips a biology lesson). Awesome just awesome.

Fiona: John Cena. I'm hearing the groans already.

Natalieeee: Jeff Hardy.

Miss T: Kane :D

Jimmy Redman: Now that Victoria is gone (*sniff* Come on Redman, be strong! You can do this! *breath*) it must be Michelle McCool. Yeah, I'm serious.

Shane O Mac: Batista. It makes me incredibly sad that he won't be in a match at Wrestlemania.

Nicole: Triple H, nom nom nom.

Laffy: Rey Mysterio and HBK now but Flair will always be the man.

Fiona: I am. I got married on Valentine's Day.

Natalieeee: No, never have been. Might be because I've never had a valentine lol and I just don't see the point in it really.

Miss T: Yeah it's a nice day to get presents and treated extra special!

Jimmy Redman: I am completely indifferent. I dont collapse into a sticky puddle at the mere thought, I dont go into a fit of indignant rage at such a shallow, commercialised holiday. I just...meh. Probably because I've never really been attached for one. My brother's birthday also falls on the day so thats usually the more pressing occasion in my house.

Shane O Mac: Can't bloody stand it!

Nicole: Yeah I do like it, it is nice even if its just some commercial holiday.

Laffy: Not really as so many have been disapointments or spent alone.

Fiona: My husband was both my best and worst gift.

Natalieeee: Like I said, I've never had anything :-( (a card from my dad doesn't really count does it?!)

Miss T: They are the same gift really.. the best was a diamond ring, the worst was the engagement ring that it represented. I said no.. :S

Jimmy Redman: The best was definitely a text message. Bear with me. In my last year of high school we had the (mis)fortune of the start of our Retreat being scheduled for VDay, to the chagrin of every teenage girl and teacher with a boyfriend, and to the lulz for the rest of us. Anywho, through the barriers of the illegality of having phones on the trip and the lack of reception in the bush, I got a lovely message from my Valentine. It made my trip. Simple things and all.

Shane O Mac: Never had any major presents, just the usual teddies and crap.

Nicole: Never had a bad valentines gift. Best? Well I had a necklace, dozen red roses, teddy, meal and cinema trip out about 4 years ago which was lovely.

Laffy: My best present was a dozen red roses and a picnic breakfast of champagne and strawberries with hot pancakes. My worst (but was enjoyable) was Die hard 3 Game for the PC.

Fiona: He knows. I don't have to say his name I hope. (Oh yes you do!! Come on!!)

Natalieeee: Jeff Hardy or Chace Crawford.

Miss T: Justin Bobby off The Hills!

Jimmy Redman: Kathryn Morris. She's the blonde lead on 'Cold Case'. She's like 40 years old, stick thin, and scarily pale, none of which should appeal to me. Nevertheless, she puts the 'hot' in "Hey, she's really hot."

Failing that, Trish and Mickie could always turn up together.

Shane O Mac: Edward Cullen <3 I want a real-life one please! other than him...theres a few real-life guys :lol

Nicole: Brad Pitt , and hopefully those romantic goodies would be a big box of durex!

Laffy: George Clooney - his voice just melts my heart.

Fiona: Everyone's invited. Just bring your own towels.

Natalieeee: LOL anyone who wants to wallow in self pity about not having someone?!

Miss T: Umm none that I would like to romance me really.. maybe a few old friends :)

Jimmy Redman: Naitch is by far the sexiest member of this forum, without him ever having posted a picture.

Shane O Mac: Wouldn't you like to know :greets4::lol (Yes yes!! Do tell us!!!)

Nicole: Noone springs to mind, sorry :)

Laffy: Antihero. (Aww!!!)

Fiona: Nothing really. Just will be talking to a friend on the phone.

Natalieeee: I have to go on a speed awareness course LOL

Miss T: This is potentially the first valentines day that I dont have a boyfriend/date so will probs just hang out with en famile.

Jimmy Redman: Its on a Saturday, so I will most probably wake up as late as possible to recover from the night before, do something birthdayish with my brother, and then go and play vigoro. Its a sport.

Shane O Mac: Work...we've got a wedding on and a Valentines Dinner.

Nicole: I was meant to be at the Priest/Megadeth gig with the ex, but thats not a good idea, so I'm in Bangor for the weekend with my mate who's at uni there, stalking out the hotties.

Laffy: None. I'm single. Can't afford to go to Scotland so will do nothing really.

Fiona: Can't say as this is a family site and Rudie's about.

Natalieeee: That I had someone to love me :-(

Miss T: I'd be in Rome eating meatballs with a dashing young man.

Jimmy Redman: About that. I suppose I could wish for some action, which would be nice whenever, but again, I'm not fussed about the day.

Shane O Mac: Work...I seriously hate the day :lol

Nicole: Spending time with the photocopying guy I met on work placement. Yummy.

Laffy: Have a long weekend with a certain person, having a romantic meal and watch some films.

Fiona: Let them win in the arcade. Please. We want nice gold cups.

Natalieeee: It's the little things that matter, you don't need to spend a lot of money, it IS the thought that counts so don't try too hard!

Miss T: Wash your hair!

Jimmy Redman: They should be giving me tips on romancing women. In case Trish and Mickie turn up.

Shane O Mac: Errr...be nice? :lol I really don't have a clue...I'm useless.

Nicole: Tell her shes beautiful and cuddles are appropriate in any situation, not just when shes sad.

Laffy: Just be yourselves. Anything else and it will come across that your uncomfortable.

Fiona: I guess just Happy Valentine's Day to everyone on TWO and their families.

Jimmy Redman: Nope.

Shane O Mac: "Theres no point to forever without you" <--- I want that as a tattoo...its such a nice saying...apart from that...no :lol

Laffy: If HHH and Batista were to turn up, I would not turn them down but apart from that hope everyone has fun and party on dude...

My First Crush

My first real crush was a girl called Michelle Gallagher (not realated to the mop-a-top Mancunian brothers) at secondary school. I think I pined after her for a few months before finally plucking up the courage to ask her if she'd like to go out sometime. She said no and that really was the end of that. I don't think I ever got a crush on anyone again after that, it all seemed a little pointless to moon around after someone when the chances are if you ever let them know they liked you that they'd just tell you to get lost. Happy Valentines day everyone!! :doh32:

Movie Mayhem

Hello, once again, and welcome to this, the Valentine's Day (even if it is a week early) edition of Movie Mayhem. As this is really a day for those of us with two X chromosomes, I thought it would be a good idea to profile ten "chick flicks" that us guys can enjoy as well.

This, hopefully, should help you score some brownie points on Friday when you wistfully select one of these movies to watch with your loved one rather than another rerun of Die Hard (incidentally, one of the best Christmas movies ever made).

So, without any more waiting, let us crack on and see which movies make the cut.

So there you go fellas, an easy-to-follow guide on which movies you should be scheduling if a chick-flick is on the cards and you don't want to fake enthusiasm. God knows, there are a lot of potential minefields out there (Beaches, Steel Magnolias, etc) that have some of the same actors and actresses as the above movies, so watch your step, choose wisely and soak in the adoration of your loved one as she marvels at your empathy and willingness to bring forth your feminine side.

Oh, and ladies, when the time comes to return the favour, just pick one of the following movies, hand your man the remote and keep quite for the next ninety minutes or so... it's all we really want.

The Terminator

First Blood

Reservoir Dogs

Die Hard

The Thing

Escape from New York

The Magnificent Seven

Thanks for reading and have a great Valentine's Day on Friday.

Draven Cage

My First Crush

Her name was Lola....actually it was Laura. I was in Year 7, and we were put into the same form class. We both came from different primary schools, and well, she wasn't like the girls from my primary, she was different, the good kind of different :)

Admittedly, I forced myself off her before anything could develop, even if it was 3 years later, mainly due to the fact we became such good friends, and I didn't want to mess that up. We did kiss once, but that was induced by alcohol.

Adult Content Bonanza

Over the past few years, a few *adult content* threads have been thrust (tee hee) into the forefront. Here's a few quotes from them.

Size, Does it Matter?

I'm ok with this thread as long as it doesn't get down to compare and contrast.
There's an idea for the next newsletter...

The first sign of penis and all the mods jump on it.

Literally, I hear.

I've learned (sex ed classes from junior high to high school) that the size of the penis when erect and flacid are not proportionate, and that muscles are actually relaxing when the penis becomes stiff. A penis (as well as the ball sack) will also expand and contract depending on the ambient temperatrue.

So, if you haven't seen it erect, you can't actually tell.

Biology 101 folks!

Mines 6 inches..... FROM THE FLOOR.
Mmhmm...Of course...

What do you think about opposite-sex friends?

You can be friends so I believe that situation would be fine.

I'd go round and thump him.
Slightly different opinions there...

My theory is that guys only become friends with girls they want to bag off with.

If anyone says any different, they're lying.

Very firm view there...

Well, there are exceptions, obviously.
Or maybe not so firm...

Shaving Advice

I regularly cut my love-hair down to a nice centimetre or so, nothing wrong with neat and tidy pubes instead of ungainly growth.

Just make sure you don't use the family scissors. Buy your own.

My suggestion would to be fill a bucket with a strong bleach and dunk your special area into the bucket, Digestive-with-tea style. No shaving, no cutting, just mild burns and no hair. Plus, you could practice your sumo stance while doing it.

I really hope everyone is not doing this pube shaving in their sinks......

Clean your teeth and accidentally floss as well....

I'll get my coat...

Eww... Dude...

I bat for the side with tits.

In saying that, that doesn't narrow it down with the people at TWO :P

And now i'm off to wash my eyes with very strong soap...

This Week In WWE: Edition XXXIX: January 25, 2009- January 31, 2009

Welcome to the fortieth edition of This Week In WWE. Feel free to contact me on TWO or Wrestling 101 anytime with comments, questions, and anything in between. Also, check out my blog on Wrestling101.com.

On Sunday at a RAW Live Event, Mike Knox won a Battle Royal to advance to the Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Way Out.

The 819th edition of Monday Night RAW came to you from the Scottrade Center in Randy Orton’s hometown of St. Louis, MO. Confirmed for RAW was Randy Orton’s reaction to Shane McMahon’s attack last week. Also, three of the six competitors in the Elimination Chamber Match would face off as Rey Mysterio teamed with Kofi Kingston to face the diabolical team of Kane & Mike Knox. We would also find out the sixth and final entrant in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match.

Monday Night RAW

Good Week For: Kane (revealed as the sixth participant in the Elimination Chamber)

Bad Week For: Shawn Michaels (got shoved and slapped by his employer and was unable to do anything about it)

It Will Be Interesting Next Week For: Randy Orton (to see if he can survive The Undertaker)

And In Other News…

Shane McMahon opened RAW and revealed that, after last week’s RAW, the legal teams of both Randy Orton & Shane McMahon have agreed on a match between the two at No Way Out. As if that was not huge enough, it will be a No Holds Barred Match, where there will be nobody allowed at ringside, including Orton’s protégés Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. Following this announcement, St. Louis’ own Randy Orton came out to a very unfriendly welcome from his fellow St. Louisman and told Shane McMahon that the son of the Chairman seemed confident. Orton then asked Shane the question of "how did Shane do it? How did Shane assault the three top superstars on RAW?" Orton replied by saying that Shane McMahon did not do that. Orton revealed that he instructed Rhodes & DiBiase to not fight back last week and neither did he. Orton stated that he did this to protect himself, Rhodes, & DiBiase from the beatdown they would receive when the RAW Roster backed up Shane. Orton then advised Shane to get a hospital bed ready and make sure it is right next to his father’s for when Orton sends Shane there at No Way Out. Orton then slowly approaches the ring, sets down the microphone, and starts to get on the apron when Rhodes & DiBiase come into the ring, followed by Orton. Apparently, Shane anticipated such an attack as he pulled out a kendo stick and swung and missed at Orton, but made contact with Rhodes & DiBiase, who fled the ring with Orton. This same type of offense will be legal at No Way Out, but what won’t be legal will be the assistance of "Legacy". Can Orton overcome the raw emotion of Shane McMahon at No Way Out or will Orton claim another victim in Seattle?

The opening match of the night was a Mixed Tag Match that saw Intercontinental Champion CM Punk team with four-time Women’s Champion Mickie James to take on former Intercontinental Champion William Regal & Layla. Due to some crafty timing by the seasoned Regal, William Regal was able to pin CM Punk for the win. These two will face off again next week when CM Punk makes his first defense of the Intercontinental Title against the former champion William Regal.

As if they did not see enough action when they tried to assault Shane McMahon, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase were in action, taking on Cryme Tyme. However, after Legacy refused to stop double-teaming Shad, Rhodes & DiBiase lost the match by disqualification.

In tag team action, three of the six participants in the Championship Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out faced off the monstrous team of Kane & Mike Knox defeated the high-flying duo of Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston.

Chris Jericho also made an appearance on RAW to address Mickey Rourke. Jericho starts by saying that he respects Rourke’s performance in "The Wrestler", but his problem with the movie was that it focused on the run-down legends of wrestling’s past. Jericho illustrated his point by listing a few "run-down legends" like Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper, & "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Jericho turned his focus on Flair and stated that Ric Flair refuses to "back out gracefully" from wrestling and that Flair had a historic retirement match at last year’s WrestleMania, but he is still signing autographs in high schools and putting his face on anything just to get a paycheck. Jericho then called the "Nature Boy" pathetic and said that legends like Ric Flair need their Hall of Famer status revoked. World Heavyweight Champion John Cena interrupted and called Chris Jericho an "idiot". Cena told Jericho that Jericho has been fired twice, but he still refuses to walk away or shut up. "The Champ" promised to shut Jericho up in their match tonight.

Backstage, Shane & Stephanie McMahon are shown walking the hallways of the Scottrade Center when Randy Orton & Legacy attacked Shane, knocking Stephanie down in the process. Legacy assaulted Shane McMahon until security attempted to pull them off of Shane, but then the members of the security force got assaulted by Rhodes & DiBiase. Orton then spotted a sadistic opportunity before him. Orton locked on to a downed Shane McMahon and prepared to punt Shane just like Orton did to his father a couple of weeks ago. However, Orton stopped in favor of a more dastardly and unthinkable plan; Orton then set up to punt Stephanie McMahon in the head! Luckily for Stephanie, Shane jumped in front of Orton mid-kick and took the shot to his ribs. Much like he did after he attacked the Chairman, Orton had a shocked look on his face as if he did not realize what just transpired.

A huge announcement was made on RAW as, after hearing Chris Jericho’s comments, the "Nature Boy" himself, Ric Flair will make a special appearance on next week’s RAW! What will the 2008 Hall of Famer have to say to Chris Jericho next week?

The WWE Divas were also in action as former Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix defeated Candice Michelle.

JBL also made an appearance for an "employee performance appraisal". JBL explained that he will publicly assess Shawn Michaels’ performance. JBL’s employee Shawn Michaels then makes his way to the ring and JBL told Michaels that JBL forfilled his half of the deal, which Michaels agreed with. JBL explained to Michaels that he hired HBK to get him to WrestleMania as the World Heavyweight Champion. JBL then asked Michaels if Michaels felt that he forfilled his part of the deal. Michaels responded by telling his boss that the failed opportunities were JBL’s fault; bringing up his match last week with John Cena as an example. JBL said that the answer to the question would be "no". JBL tells Michaels that HBK has failed him as an employee. JBL asks the Heartbreak Kid if he wants JBL to release him from his contract. JBL says that he knows Michaels wants to assault him right then and there, but the always cunning JBL informs Michaels that if HBK puts his hands on JBL, JBL will fire Michaels and Michaels will have to return home penniless to a family he can no longer support. JBL then offers a proposal to Shawn Michaels- a match between them at No Way Out. JBL then explained that if Michaels wins, he will get all the money he will ever need in his lifetime. However, JBL stated that if he wins, that lifetime will be spent working for him and Michaels will never get a dime. A confident JBL told his employee that after he wins at No Way Out, he will not only own Shawn Michaels, he will also own Michaels’ name, his legacy, everything associated with the career of Shawn Michaels. JBL asks Michaels if he wants to "roll the dice" and risk walking away from No Way Out with nothing and risk Michaels’ children looking at him and asking their dad if it was worth it. Michaels accepts the Winner-Takes-All Match. JBL then reminds his employee that Michaels can not lay a hand on him or he will be fired. The brash JBL then starts shoving Michaels several times, then slaps HBK. A very emotional Shawn Michaels exits the ring.

Backstage we see Kane & RAW General Manager Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie asks Kane if "he" is coming next week and Kane says yes. Stephanie then reveals that Kane will be rewarded with the sixth and final spot in the Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Title at No Way Out. Stephanie then drops the bombshell that Randy Orton will go one-on-one next week with none other than "The Phenom" The Undertaker! Is there a more cruel revenge the McMahons could have plotted than to place Orton in the ring with The Undertaker?

Then it was time for the main event as World Heavyweight Champion John Cena faced Chris Jericho in a non-title match. The two fought back-and-forth, but in the end, "The Champ" was true to his word to "shut Jericho’s mouth" as he made the narcissistic Jericho tap out to pick up the win. Is this a sign of things to come in the Elimination Chamber?

The 139th edition of ECW on Sci-Fi came to you from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO. Confirmed for the night in the "Gateway To The West" was a non-title match between ECW Champion Jack Swagger and "The Fighting Irishman" Finlay. Also, Tommy Dreamer would face Paul Burchill.

Good Week For: Finlay (pinned the ECW Champion and ended his undefeated streak)

Bad Week For: Jack Swagger (got pinned in singles action for the first time in his career)

It Will Be Interesting Next Week For: Finlay (to see if or when he gets an ECW Title Match)

And In Other News…

The opening contest of ECW saw "The Ripper" Paul Burchill defeat ECW Original Tommy Dreamer.

Backstage, Jamie Noble from RAW confronts the ECW General Manager Theodore Long. Noble stated that he was there to "save the show" now that Matt Hardy is on SmackDown. GM Long agreed with Noble and now Jamie Noble is a member of the ECW Roster.

Back in the ring, World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison come to the ring, where Tommy Dreamer is still recovering from his match with Paul Burchill. The braggadocios duo mocked the ECW Original, telling Dreamer that he was too slow to even exit the ring in a timely fashion. The tag champions called him "fat boy" and mocked his passion for ECW, as well as claim that champions do not look like Tommy Dreamer, that champions look like The Miz & John Morrison. Dreamer stood up and got into the tag champions’ faces as Miz & Morrison continued their verbal mockery of the proud Superstar by saying that Tommy Dreamer should just go home and wait for the call for him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which will never happen. However, the duo crossed the line by telling Dreamer that even his family would not want to see him. This caused Dreamer to snap and briefly assault The Miz before John Morrison got involved. The two double-teamed Dreamer and put an exclamation point on the beat down when The Miz laid out a prone Dreamer with the Reality Check. This issue is certainly not done between these three after this attack. Will Tommy Dreamer retaliate? If so, how will he combat the numbers game?

Jamie Noble also made his debut as an ECW Superstar. Unfortunately, it was against the mysterious Boogeyman, who picked up the win over Theodore Long’s latest acquisition.

Then it was time for a very personal main event; after Jack Swagger viciously shoved his son, Hornswoggle, down last week, "The Great Protector" Finlay was out for revenge as he faced the ECW Champion, the "Undefeated All-American American" Jack Swagger in a non-title bout. During the match, Swagger got a hold of Finlay’s signature shillelagh and threw it way out of the Irishman’s reach leaving Finlay without his "backup". However, Swagger forgot about Finlay’s "plan C", better known as Hornswoggle, who got out a bigger shillelagh and cracked the ECW Champion in the ankle with it. This was enough for Finlay to hit the Celtic Cross on the champion and end the undefeated streak of Jack Swagger by defeating him in a one-on-one match! Now that Finlay has done what so many others have failed to do in defeating Jack Swagger one-on-one, can Finlay take the ECW Title from Jack Swagger? How will Swagger react to his first singles loss?

As announced on WWE.com after ECW concluded, Jack Swagger will defend the ECW Title against Finlay at No Way Out on February 15 in Seattle. Can Swagger keep the gold or will Finlay pin Swagger again and get the ECW Title?

The 495th edition of WWE SmackDown came to you from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. Confirmed for SmackDown was a huge tag team main event featuring the four known Elimination Chamber participants as WWE Champion Edge teamed with Big Show to take on "The Game" Triple H & "The Phenom" The Undertaker. Also, we would find out the final two participants in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match.

Friday Night SmackDown

Good Week For: Vladimir Kozlov (dominated in a Battle Royal & earned the final spot in the Chamber)

Bad Week For: Edge (got knocked out by Big Show, Tombstoned by Undertaker, & pinned by Undertaker)

It Will Be Interesting Next Week For: Jeff Hardy (to see what Jeff does when he returns to SmackDown)

And In Other News…

SmackDown opened with a Battle Royal. Before the Battle Royal could get underway, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero came out and made two blockbuster announcements- first, Jeff Hardy will get his rematch for the WWE Title at No Way Out inside the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match and second, the Battle Royal about to take place would decide the final entrant into the Chamber.

The Battle Royal decided the final participant in the Elimination Chamber Match and no one man was more dominant than "The Moscow Mauler" Vladimir Kozlov, who eliminated both WWE Tag Team Champions, R-Truth, & "The Punjabi Playboy" The Great Khali to win the Battle Royal and secure the final spot in the Chamber Match at No Way Out. The field is now set for the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match as WWE Champion Edge will defend the title against five of the WWE’s greatest superstars- "The Game" Triple H, "The World’s Largest Athlete" Big Show, the man who was robbed of the title Jeff Hardy, "The Undefeated Moscow Mauler" Vladimir Kozlov, & "The Deadman" The Undertaker. How can Edge possibly survive the Chamber? How will he survive the tag team main event later that night?

Fresh off of competing in the Battle Royal, MVP was able to defeat United States Champion Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match to continue his new winning streak and, no doubt, earn a future United States Title match.

Backstage, Hurricane Helms is being interviewed regarding the dissension of his lifelong friends- Matt & Jeff Hardy and Helms states that Matt Hardy has always had an ego about him, but now Matt is an "egotistical jerk". Helms said that Jeff Hardy is not here, but he is and he will be looking for Matt Hardy.

Matt Hardy made an appearance and told Hurricane Helms that Helms does not need to look for him, because he is in the middle of the ring. Matt calls out Helms and Helms makes a b-line for the ring and the former friends brawl with each other. After a back-and-forth battle, Matt gets the upper hand and brutally assaults an unconscious Helms until WWE Referees come to the ring to get Matt off of Helms.

In 6-Man Tag Team Action, The Brian Kendrick & World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison got a big win over R-Truth & WWE Tag Team Champions Primo & Carlito.

A huge announcement was made in regards to next week’s SmackDown as Jeff Hardy will return to SmackDown! Jeff will be making his first appearance since his brother cost him the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. What will Jeff have to say regarding Matt? Will he be able to focus on regaining the WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber with all of the personal turmoil he is in the middle of?

Eve Torres also made her in-ring debut on SmackDown, unfortunately, she was forced to submit to Michelle McCool. After the match, Maria ran McCool out of the ring.

Matt Hardy was asked about Jeff’s return next week and the elder Hardy stated that "a lot can happen in seven days" and that "it would be unfortunate if Jeff suffered another ‘accident’ in the next week". Matt added that he would "welcome Jeff back with open arms". What does Matt planned for the man he no longer recognizes as his brother?

Umaga was in action, completely dominating Kung Fu Naki.

Then it was time for a big time tag team main event with some major Elimination Chamber implications as WWE Champion Edge reluctantly teamed with one of his challengers at No Way Out, Big Show, to face two other challengers, Triple H & The Undertaker. Edge let his mouth lead his body when addressing Big Show and Show responded by knocking out the champion with a straight right hand. Big Show then placed himself on the apron and watched as The Undertaker tombstoned and pinned his "partner". Edge got two valuable lessons from Big Show- don’t boss around "The World’s Largest Athlete" and, at No Way Out, it’s every man for himself. What "interactions" will we see between the six Chamber participants next week on the last stop before No Way Out?

Superstar of the Week: Finlay

Wrestler of the Fortnight

Questions this week:

1. Who is your Wrestler of the Fortnight?

2. Who was your first crush in wrestling?

3. Who is the most fanciable Superstar/Diva?

1. JBL I really just want to go to a restaurant called Shawn Michaels and see him in a monkey suit. I loved the way he made HBK his bitch! jabbing him whilst he made his points because if Shawn snapped he would forfeit the match. I think that promo was JBL back to his best, he really made you hate him for humiliating Michaels but at the same time like him because you have wanted to do that to someone yourself.

2. Has to be Eddie Guerrero and The Rock I really fell for them hook line and sinker. My wrestling wall was just covered.

3. Jeff Hardy or perversely probably Batista.

Telina's Mits:

1. Randy Orton...he just gets better and better

<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="

2. Stacey Keibler...Crap in the ring...but just all kinds of amazing..out of it

3. Maria...Just hot...

Shane O Mac:

1. Beth Phoenix: She may of lost the title at the Rumble, but she's still my WOTF. Fantastic talent and matches, beat Candice(thank God) on Raw and never fails to have me hooked on her matches.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

2. Hulk Hogan LOL. I use to watch wrestling when I was about 4 and I loved him!

3. Superstar: CM Punk/John Morrison

Diva: Maria/Maryse

1. Kofi Kingston

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2. Ken Shamrock

3. Jeff Hardy and Maria

Nemesis Enforcer:

1. Randy Orton - It almost wasn't Randy due to the events of Raw with Shane beating him like a monkey at Chipperfield Circus (look it up kids) but taking everything into account he has been on fire before and after those ugly scenes and so would be my pick for this fortnight.

Great promos and the beating he and Legacy put on Shane on the 2/2 Raw cemented his place for me

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZceS0Mfu1o&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZceS0Mfu1o&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2. Alundra Blayze - Back in 1993 when she made her debut I fell in love with her, which was quite a feat for a then 9 year old Nemesis Enforcer, but it happened. I had the biggest crush on her and though she was the perfect woman, beautiful and could wrestle really well she had me drooling

3. Beth Phoenix - I am not into the skinny look that most of the Diva's have and it was a toss up between Beth and Nattie (who has the best thighs in WWE!) but as an overall package Beth is the most fanciable Diva in the company right now for me, I would seriously kidnap her on their next UK tour if I wasn't afraid she'd beat the crap out of me for trying it.

1. My wrestler of the fortnight is John Cena. He's always my pick. I just like the way he manages to rile not only his opponents but the crowd as well. Plus having a nice bum doesn't hurt.

From 5 mins in great Cena promo.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf9dbO20SzE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf9dbO20SzE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2. I've never had a crush or any wrestler. I can't stand the way they come out looking all wet and sweaty, especially HHH and Khali. No don't fancy any of them to be truthful just enjoy watching.

3. I guess it would have to be a toss up between Melina and Trish. The guys seem to like both even though looks wise they are totally different. I'm not a good judge of in ring ability but they are both pretty good if you like Diva wrestling.

Al Stevens:

1. Randy Orton, I think this guy has been on fire since the start of Legacy forming and also I am liking the more evil streak (i.e. going to punt Steph in the head on Raw)

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKu7_tCKCBM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKu7_tCKCBM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2. Sunny, she was stunning.

3. I have two actually:

Diva: Katie Lea

Knockout: Taylor Wilde

John Hancock:

1. Kayfabe wise, Shane-O-Mac seems to be cleaning house right now, but nah, I've got to go with Randy Orton. I was one of those guys who just totally wrote him off a few years ago as being totally over rated, but I was completely, totally wrong, he's just awesome. Awesomely awesome. It helps that he has pretty much the best finishing move going right now, as well as that bad-ass head kicking thang, but all in all he's just improved so much and does the mega-heel thing perfectly. Sadly, he'll always be more likable than the McMahons, so I'm cheering him on right now, which kinda defeats the purpose, but still... Orton is just greatness right now.

<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>

2. I pretty much hit puberty to Sable's boob popping out. February 1998, Goldust and Marc Mero against the Headbangers; Sable does a run in to attack Luna and the ref grabs her, leading to a wardrobe malfunction that was quite the turning point in my life. I must have been 10 years old, and at that moment I realised that girls are actually kinda cool in ways I hadn't realised before. All other aspects of life kinda took a back seat after that. Sigh. Damn you Sable.

During the formative teenage years though, it was all about Lita and Trish Stratus. There's nothing quite like those Divas bikini magazines they used to do when you're 14. Seriously. Plus, news agents didn't know what they were, so they'd let underage kids buy them, which they wouldn't do for FHM.

Before I get judged as being just a terrible person, any man who denies that these things are vitally important at 14 years old is a liar, or entirely A-sexual.

3. I have two. No, three. Three. Melina always used to be, like, IT, but then she... did stuff with Batista, which tainted her. She's like the modern day Eva Braun; pretty enough, but her taste in men is so bad it makes her unlikeable.

Next up is Kelly Kelly. Physically, she's just lovely. Really, just spot on. But then I had the misfortune of seeing her talk. Now, like quite a few men, I can put up with a certain degree of stupidity when it comes to girls THAT hot, but this was way over the line. She could barely talk. Plus, she used to be a stripper. Which is just... icky.

So I guess that leaves Mickie James, who, despite looking like she's about 4' 3'' in heels, is really pretty, and seems like a decent enough human being, which is more than can be said for most Divas, or most wrestlers for that matter. I like Southern accents to.

So yeah, Mickie James is my pick. My e-mail address is on my profile Mickie, so get in touch.

Most fanciable male superstar? Probably C.M. Punk. No joke, he's hot.

Will The Phoenix Continue To Rise?

Jimmy Redman

You’d think being told “Go write a piece on the Divas” would light up my heart and I would in turn light up my keyboard, but in fact for a while I was stumped as to what exactly to write about. But in the end I decided upon someone who needs to be written about far more than she is, because she is by far the greatest and the most important Diva on the roster: Beth Phoenix. She’s been outstanding for roughly the past 9 months, and was far and away the best woman in wrestling last year. She has improved beyond sight, and as such has impressed me so much that I firmly believe that she will be the most important factor in the success of the Divas for the next few years. But I’ll get to that. I also want to take a look at Beth and explain why she is where she is now, especially considering where she was 12 months ago.

12 months ago Beth Phoenix, for all her hype, her physique and her huge push, failed to live up to expectations. Well, mine at least. She was on the monster push and she won the Women’s Title, but she didn’t appear to be anywhere near as good as she should have been. She was big and awkward, not selling a lot, and while those are stock monster heel traits, her offense wasn’t any good either. She just wasn’t a good wrestler, and at the beginning of last year I vividly remember saying that she wasn’t even in the bracket of ‘good workers’ in WWE. Well, that has all changed. Mid-year she went bat-sh*t crazy at Melina and gave her the most brutal backstage beating I’ve ever seen (male or female) and since then, Beth has looked very, very dangerous, in the best possible way. She’s developed a much better moveset, and ditched the awful Fisherman’s Suplex as a finish and started using the much better Glam Slam instead. She had a good three-way at Judgment Day (and unlike their first one where she was a passenger, she more than played her part – that double backbreaker was a fantastic spot) and an amazing ‘I Quit’ match at One Night Stand to cap off a brutal feud, along with that she's just wrestling much, much better on TV every week, with people as far apart as Mickie James and Kelly Kelly. Nowadays, she’s odds-on to have a good match, rather than a bad one, and is now wrestling better on a regular basis than any other woman in the company.

But to be honest, Beth’s improvement as a wrestler is probably secondary to her improvement as a character. Her Glamazon gimmick and her promos were hit-and-miss in 2007, but around the same time she got better in the ring, she got better out of it as well. Her promos improved remarkably after she lost the Women’s Title. She also added little touches like continuing to hold up an invisible title belt after she lost the real one to Mickie James, which I admit I absolutely loved and still love. Strangely enough, once she got her dominant heel gimmick perfected, they went and turned her into a comedic love interest for Santino. ‘How Russorific!’ you might exclaim indignantly, except that it absolutely worked and she absolutely rules in the role. My first thought about Beth Phoenix wasn’t “comedic genius”, even after she improved, but my God, she is and became so basically overnight once it happened. As impossible as it is to steal a scene with Santino in it because Santino is Mr. Scene Stealer, Beth has come about as close as you can get. Her facial expressions in all their segments are incredible, as are all her Glamarella antics, like dropping Santino or squeezing his butt or, again, just giving him a huge death stare when he tries to bite the bicep. I’ve been more impressed with Beth Phoenix than Santino since they paired up, because while Santino had been the great comedic genius for months beforehand, Beth did a complete 180 into the role, and out of nowhere she excelled at it.

The one thing I love about the character of Beth Phoenix is how versatile it is. I don’t know if that is the right word or not, but bear with me. Beth Phoenix has become this comedic girlfriend/bodyguard of the biggest comedy heel ever seen, but at the same time she hasn’t really sacrificed the dominant monster heel either. She’s supposed to be dominant, she’s supposed to be much better and much more intimidating than Santino. And she is, so it works perfectly. Two episodes stand out to me. Firstly, when Glamarella began, earlier in the night Beth squashed Kelly, and I mean SQUASHED her. She was probably the biggest monster on the show at that point. And then an hour later she came out and turned into this gun-shy blushing schoolgirl, but she was just as fantastic at both roles, and the crowd bought her in both roles, so it worked. Another example is the night that she slapped Batista. Early in that night, she was on commentary for Candice Michelle (yes, I do remember these things off-hand) and actually got dropkicked by Candice and backed away. She ran from Candice. And people bought this. Later on, they’re all in the ring and Beth Phoenix doesn’t back away from Batista, and actually paintbrushes him twice. She hit Batista. And people bought this. That is what I love about Beth. She is so big, so dominant over all the other girls, and so convincing in the monster role, that she can do the comedy and be enamoured with Santino and back away from Candice bloody Michelle, and at the same time she can squash any girl and wallop Batista. She can play the comedy role, and get it over, without sacrificing a bit of her dominant aura at the same time. Its something a lot of other wrestling characters, especially monster heels, don’t have.

Moving on to my original point, I do believe now that Beth Phoenix has to be the most important female in the company in the next few years, for a number of reasons. Firstly, she’s still fairly young and has a fair few good years left in her, excepting injuries of course, and she's basically guaranteed to be somewhere on top as well. She has the wrestling experience and now a real ability as a worker. They have other girls who can work, but Nattie and Katie aren’t being used, Mickie and Jillian aren’t being pushed, and while Melina is on top she’s failing as a face. Beth is by far the most pushed and the most important of them. She’s untouchable in the company right now, even without the belt. To me, this is where her versatility comes in. A lot of the girls’ characters aren’t very developed. Other girls, like Melina and Michelle are born heels, and others still like Mickie and Kelly are so popular they cant be heels. Beth’s versatility as a character means she can work with all of them. Beth can be all kinds of a heel as I explained, and while its easy for me to say, I think she could work as a face as well, and get over more than, say, Melina has. Beth is going to work with a lot of green girls, as well as the talented ones, and I think she has the ability to carry all of them both in the ring and out of it. Beth Phoenix will probably be holding the division together for a while, like Trish did in 2005 and like Victoria did on Smackdown last year. In the end, I’m pretty confident that Beth will end up being one of the greatest Divas in their history. I mean she’s not as great a talent as Trish Stratus was, she’s not as big a star as Lita was, and she’s not even as much of a workhorse that Victoria was. But Beth Phoenix might well end up being an ideal combination of all three.

Final Thoughts

I hope you have all enjoyed this soppy edition of the newsletter. Valentines Day (or Singles Awareness Day as I've heard it called a few times) is this Saturday so go on with you, get loving. Just remember that there is at least one person in the world right now that loves you more than chocolate. And that, my dear readers, is a HUGE deal. I shall relinquish control of the newsletter to DC who is taking over from Inno for a while. And Henry-my love, my life, my everything. AML.

I read a bit of the spotlight but it was too girly for my liking so I gave up halfway through, and I skipped everything wrestling and movie based. The pacing was good, but the ordering was questionable. Other than that, it was fine and I probably read more of this than any newsletter I can remember (which is none of them). So yeah, thumbs up.
