Street Fighter Sequel Greenlit

And we don't know how to feel

There is really absolutely no reason to be excited about a second live-action Street Fighter movie. Video game movies both suck and blow. The first one was terrible and a completely unfitting swansong for Raul Julia. Most people who remember going to see the first one should really know better by now. And yet, the news fills our inner child with some sense of cautious joy. This leads us to suspect our inner child may have some kinda luhrnun' diffeecuhltays.

The new film will be directed by – and we directly quote Variety here – "action specialist" Andrzej Bartkowiak. This would be the specialist who directed Doom and Romeo Must Die, which were not special in the good way. Bartkowiak will be looking to be somewhat more successful than the Jean Claude Van Damme/Kylie Minogue starring incarnation, which took just $33million at the US box office. Justin Marks, who is also writing He-Man for Warner Bros, is currently working on the script.

This take on the game will centre on Chun Li, the giggly Chinese girl who was the best character in the game – so, good choice on protagonist – and also one of the least practically dressed. The film will follow her journey for justice (justice for what?) armed only with her twin hair buns made of fury and legs made of spinning bird kicks.

I don't know why everyone hates on the first Street Fighter movie, I honestly enjoyed it, still got it on Vid somewhere will have to find it out and watch it again now I have been talking about it :lol

it completely balls up the source material, the script was horrific and need i say Van Damn's crappy american accent. The only two beat them ups which rate as low as streetfighter: the movie are the second mortal Kombat film and DOA

I watched Street Fighter: The Movie again earlier today and I still enjoy it, its not the best movie ever but its not terrible either as a huge fan of the original game as a kid I wasn't and still am not disapointed comparing the film to it

This is AWESOME ! This is the kind of film you won't go see in the cinema, and neither pay for it over Sky Box Office... let's be honest you probably won't be happy about watching it on Sky Movies... but dammit, if it's on Channel 4 or 5 one late Wednesday evening you think "Why the hell not ?"

Ahhh, wonderful news. However Chun Li ? Not cool.

More Vega dammit !

The only decent Street fighter movie is the manga verson

Anime version you mean, unless you are talking about Manga Entertainment who made it. Though SF2 DID have a Manga comic too which was pretty cool.

Will Kylie be in it?

Probably not... and it will be a poorer film for it :(

If it's poorer than the last movie it'll be in Plan 9 territory.

It'll be a horrible film and get Resident Evil/Apocalypse kind of reviews.
Seeing as how I enjoyed those movies, and the reviews of said films was usually in the 3 stars (out of 5) region, that's not really a bad thing.

More Join Street Fighter II Movie

Clarke Duncan, Klein and Yune Onboard

Source: Variety

19 February 2008

Three more have joined the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, which already has Smallville's Kristin Kreuk in the title role. Those actors are Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein and Rick Yune – so you know it's going to be good.

Clarke Duncan is great casting as the enormous boxer Balrog, but we've never heard of the characters Klein and Yune will be taking on. A little light Wikipeding tells us that Klein's Nash is an old war buddy of Guile, the best character in the game and enthusiastic sonic boomer. Yune's Gen is a mystical master assassin who was friends with Chun Li and taught her some of her moves. Clearly, these two characters turned up after we became too old and arthtritically fingered for the game.

Andrzej Bartkowiak, sworn enemy of spell-check, will direct from a script Voltron writer Justin Marks. Shooting is set to start in March in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Vancouver.

I must admit, the casting is giving me hope that this will be an above-average movie.
