DC 536
From the Metro newspaper. The father wanted to get his son into the Guinness World Records Book. Boy, 15, performs caesarean Thursday, June 21, 2007 Building the tallest Lego tower, tightrope walking across Niagra Falls or covering yourself in bees is usually sufficient to get a place in the Guinness World Records book. Not so for the parents of Dhileepan Raj. They filmed their 15-year-old son performing a Caesarean section birth in a bizarre bid to get him recognised as the world's youngest surgeon. But now the couple, both doctors, may face criminal charges or be stripped of their licenses. Father Dr K Murugesan showed a recording of Dhileepan performing the operation to the Indian Medical Association in the southern state of Tamil Nadu last month. Lucky baby is shocked at the news In a newspaper article, Dr Murugesan said: 'If a ten-yearold can drive a car and a 15-year old can become a doctor in the US, what is wrong if my son, though not qualified, performs surgery?' But outraged doctors who saw the video reported the incident to the state medical council, prompting an investigation. Tamil Nadu's health minister, KKSSR Ramachandran, said: 'How can a doctor convert his nursing home into a butcher's shop by allowing his unqualified son to perform surgery?' The boy's parents now claim he merely watched the operation. Several world records have been removed from the Guinness book for ethical reasons. For example, the records for swordswallowing or consuming unlikely items have been closed because people put their health at risk. What do you think of this? I personally hope they are punished in some way for this, because it wasn't done for the wellbeing of mother and child, but was instead done for profit and publicity. What if there had been complications, or worse?
Guest Laffy
I think it is awful and the parents should be stripped of their licenses it is a gross misconduct act. What would the boy have done if anything had gone wrong, could the mother sue as the surgeon is unqualified.
Guest Kanenite
Pretty disgusting, to actually allow and record your son doing that is a disgrace, hopefully they recieve a punishment and be stripped of their licenses.

Nimf 324
That's absolutely appalling! A caesarean is major surgery, not only was the mothers life at risk but the baby too! Why on earth would someone want an unqualified person doing a surgery like that on them?!?
Guest Laffy
The mother might not have known he is unqualified as there have been some child qualified surgeons in the US so could have assumed this was the case as well.

If that makes me "ageist" or something, then so be it! But you're right, people often take for granted that people doing surgeries, etc on them are qualified. It'll make people question things more! Guest ahsatan
I agree with Nimf, children should not be performing surgery at all. What happens if it goes wrong? Children aren't fuly developed in their mind to be performing such a responsible task. At my workplace, we're not even allowed to let anyone under the age of 18 use machines on cables, letting children perform surgery is just stupid. Guest FreeSpirit
Dont get me wrong, I hope the parents are punished by the Medical Board, but when it comes to the kid I really hope that he starts training to be a Surgeon as soon as possible, because this is an amazing achievement for a 15 year old to perform, and I'm quite impressed on that part. Guest frednut
Sometimes Asians absolutly diguest me. It's not a racist thing but I don't know how many times I've read something that's involved an Asian, usually chinese and their cruelty to animals and lack of human rights, that has made me question if they have a brain or if they use it. Most of the down right stupidest and cruelest thing's i've read have involved Asians. what if he killed her and the baby? did that ever go through that doctors mind? He probably had a whole street of pregnant women lining up incase one died just so that this boy could be in a book.

I think the most worrying thing about this story is the Child has been employed by the NHS as a lead Surgeon for the past 18 months.... Is that a joke or did you read that somewhere? I'm guessing the former unless your source is The Onion, in which case it'd be both.

Paul 584
Sometimes Asians absolutly diguest me. And me. But that said so do whites, blacks, latinas, asians, mixed race, aliens and non human sentient beings (like the Scots). It's not a racist thing. Exactly. Every race has its bad bits, hell we had Myra Hindley for crying out loud! Her parents must have been proud. And just for the record I am not taking the mick out of frednuts comments. Well, not totally. :)
