Guest FreeSpirit
Nice one on the job if you get it Mr P (which sounds like you will). And to answer the question, no I've never really had any desire to be a fireman.
Guest Kanenite
Yeh nice one Mr P, good luck with the job. I've never wanted to be a fireman either :P
Dead Crow 370
Only ever wanted to be a fireman once, for 5 seconds. Then I wanted to be a wrestler again. I have dressed up in a firemans outfit before though. I looked good :)
Guest Al Stevens
Mr P i really hope that you get this job, and i wish you all the luck in the world :) However for your question i never have done. I had a fear of fires when i was younger and ever since i damaged my knees i know i wouldn't pass the tests.
Guest MastersGonads
My Brother in Law is a retained firefighter.... Its a career that I have thought about on numerous occasions, especially as a retained firefighter, but the fact is I couldnt be a retained fighter due to the hours I work, and the distance between my work and home station.... Always like the thought of being part of the NYFD.......

Guest FreeSpirit
sorry to sound thick but what is a retained fireman? A retained fireman gets paid only for the specific time they are responding to emergencies, but aren't employed as full time firefighters. :xyx
Guest Loves To Spooge
The fireman is very magical. Rub his helmet and he spits in your eye.
Guest Gemsi
Yay for the the job! The only reason I ever wanted to be a firefighter (before meeting paul obviously) was as you get to watch brave fit men in uniform all day. I'd preferred to have been a receptionist mind, as then you don't have to be brave and fit aswell. I wanted to be a ghostbuster, but then watched the films and got scared off my evil scarey floaty man. Then I wanted to be a nurse or school teacher, but I'd run out of puff by then (stop giggling!) I think it's cool to want to do stuff that could save many billions of lives. Good for you!
Guest Slim Jim
I don't think one fireman is going to save billions of lives, but it's a start. Good luck to ya.
Red05 343
Good luck Mr Perfect. I don't think i've ever wanted to be a Firefighter, though after watching Rescue Me it seems like a cool job!
Ryan 188
sorry to sound thick but what is a retained fireman?. and good luck Mr P :thumbsup KM is pretty much spot on, a Retained Firefighter goes about his (or her) everyday business like any other person, most have day jobs which have to be local to the station, and when there is a fire call they are alerted by Bleep (Pager) and have to respond to the call within 5 minutes (its 2 minutes at my Station, the fastest responding Station in Bucks :)), Wholetime (full time) Firefighters go to work at 9 and finish at 5, when there not at work, their not on call, they work for 3 days, and are off for 4, which is why i believe Retained Firefighters are more dedicated as their on call 24/7. Wholetime isnt my thing but each to their own, i want being a Firefighter to mean something, i dont want it to be a 9 to 5 job, the thing i dont understand is that to be Wholetime, training taskes 2 years, but to be Retained, takes 2 months minimum, yet Retained are on call for SO SO much longer than Wholetime. Plus wholetime Firefighters arnt allowed Secondary jobs unlike Retained, so your doing absolutely nothing for 4 days, not for me thanks, although you can be a Retained Firefighter in those 4 days, i respect the crap out of Firefighters who do both.
