Cannibalism

I was watching a documentary on The History Channel this morning about Cannibalism (for the younger members here that don't know what it means, it basically means to eat another human being's flesh). Now dont get me wrong this thread isn't a Jeffrey Dahmer situation where he butchers people for his own sick pleasure, but more of an intense survival excercise, much like the 1993 film Alive where they ate fallen members of their party to avoid death.

 

Quite a disturbing scenario I know, but for example if you were stranded in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no means of rescue, a few people in your party had already died from their injuries, all your supplies of food and drink had run out, and you hadn't eaten anything for days, I'm wondering would you ever consider eating another human being just to survive.? The only other likely option is that you would die.

 

I know its morally wrong to eat another human being who is already dead, but if it was a case of survival, would you do it?

In the case of "eat flesh or die" then yes, I could eat a human being. I'd prefer it with a nice tomato based sauce, mind you...

In this situation there seems to be no rescue coming and no other food to eat. You are going to run out of 'food' after the dead are gone and non-eatable so you would eventually die anyways. I'd rather just die instead of eating human flesh to last a little while longer. I'd just accept my death and be a little creeped out that the others might just eat me when I'm gone ;)

To be fair I don't think I'd mull over the thought of it for too long, and I'd just tuck in. If you are hungry, you have to eat something, animal or human. I heard that humans are meant to taste like pork which I'm not overly keen on, but it would be ok in the circumstances.

Yea I think i would. Is it really unethical if they're already dead, and you'll starve otherwise?

No, no, its actually chicken. But a bit saltier. Ahem. You cant really say unless you face certain death, then your instincts takeover, i dare say i would if it helped me to survive, if however there were other more reliant on it than myself, i'd let them have first pick. Cheesy, but true.

Wait til they were dead, find an object to carve the person over with, create a source of heat, cook and eat. Simple.

I don't think I could. I'd throw it all back up, I couldn't physically eat a person I don't think.

Nah, the thought of broth, no matter what its made off, has the same effect on me. Bit of crusty bread, good film on the tv. Hmm, shame my teas already been cooked!
