World Heavyweight Champion Edge may once again find himself in The Animal’s path on Friday night after seizing yet another opportunity to attack Batista on SmackDown. The Rated-R Superstar speared his Vengeance: Night of Champions opponent Batista as he came to the aid of SmackDown's newest Superstar, Ric Flair. Will The Animal gain retribution for the actions of both the Ultimate Opportunist and U.S. Champ MVP’s actions against both he and his mentor? Or will the two champions stand tall once more over their Night of Champions opponents?

*The Major Brothers defeated WWE Tag Team champions Deuce & Domino in a non-title bout.

 

Smackdown:

 

*A Cutting Edge segment opens Smackdown. WWE World champion Edge brings out Torrie Wilson, then promptly accuses her of blowing up Mr. McMahon. MVP comes out and acts as if he's going to defend Wilson, then demands that she take a lie detector test. Ric Flair hits the ring and they beat him down. Batista makes the save.

 

*Backstage, Teddy Long and Vicky Guerrero discuss what just went on, but the audio was hard to understand live.

 

*WWE Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero & Jamie Noble defeated Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore.

 

*Mark Henry defeated Funaki.

 

*The main event for Smackdown is Batista & Flair vs. Edge & MVP.

 

*Backstage, Vicky Guerrero tells Teddy Long she's finished booking all the travel arrangements for Mr. McMahon's memorial service on Monday. Long tells her he has something special for tonight. Kristal Marshall enters and Long tells Kristal he has something special to ask her tonight inside the ring.

 

*Matt Hardy defeated Finlay in what was described as a good, long match.

 

*Teddy Long asks Kristal Marshall to marry him. She starts crying and leaves, leaving Long in the ring alone.

 

*Chris Masters defeated Danny Shinley (last name may be incorrect).

 

*Backstage, the federal investigator reveals they have found DNA for Mr. McMahon and the limo driver in the limo and the investigation is continuing.

 

*Ric Flair & Batista defeated WWE World champion Edge & MVP when Batista pinned Edge with a Batista Bomb.

As long as Matt Hardy continues to get booked in matches against quality opposition that are given time each week, Smackdown cannot flop

 

As far as the main event scene on Smackdown goes at the moment, i just feel that Batista has got so stale that not even Edge can get me interested. In the big picture, Batista is main event talent. I still think they should follow through with the Mark Henry angle which they seem to have totally forgotten about. Either way, i want to see Dave away from the title picture

See I thought Batista was really good this week on SD. He really looked like he cared.

 

Smackdown was crazy good, what I saw of it. Hardy/Finlay was as awesome as it sounds, and still a great out-of-nowhere finish.

 

Masters looked the best I've seen him in memory too. I really hope they so something with him. What did annoy me, however, was Cole bollocking on about McMahon, when he should have been selling the one-armed slam that Masters was in the middle of doing.

Seriously, Matt Hardy could be a future World Champion. For the past 6 months he's had constant good to great matches. He gets a good to great pop every time he steps out to the ring, the crowd reacts to his moves, and he isn't that bad on the mic. Plus he's damn sure over.

I really wasn't impressed with SmackDown! this week. The only good part of it was the Matt/Finlay match. There's still quite a handful of superstars to debut for SmackDown! since the drafts. For the record, the jobber who faced Masters was Danny Shandling and the announcement by Beck (in that weird looking conference, it looked like it was taped like 30 years ago) was that there was a third strand of DNA besides that of the limo driver and Mr. McMahon and it was a "big personality". I may be alone, but the main event bored me. The main events haven't been good for the last few weeks or so.

 

I think it's safe to say that the Long/Kristal storyline is going to be that Kristal just wants Long for his "dolla, dolla bill, ya'll".

 

SmackDown! Overall- 5/10

Indeed, those of us who notice these things will have noticed Krystal inspecting the ring very closely before accepting. However, as exciting as the Krystal/Teddy storyline is, I cant get past the huge stumbling block of Vickie Guerrero.

I really did enjoy watching Mark Henry completley manhandle Funaki, this is the Mark Henry that I've missed for the past 8 months, just mercilessly beating people up left, right and centre. I really hope once Edge's long title run is done that Mark Henry is somewhere near the title picture.

On the whole, Smackdown was fairly decent

 

Matt Hardy continues to pull off excellent performances each week and i really do hope he reeps the rewards as far as a singles title goes. I see no reason why he can't be the next challenger to MVP for the US title. His match with Finlay was old school - work on a body part, sell it well, get the crowd behind you and make the comeback. Loved it

 

Mark Henry, although not the most technically gifted, continues to entertain me. Masters also has taken a lot of stick for just being a bit of a muscle-head, but i've always known he's had little more than that; which i think he showed at times in his squash match

 

I thought the Teddy Long and Kristal segment was a bit pointless seeing as seconds later she accepted the proposal - all a bit strange

 

Main event didn't really draw me in. Like always, i get goosebumps during Batista's entrance but it seems to go down hill from there. He'll definately be losing to Edge this Sunday which i think is a good thing. Perhaps have Mark Henry cost him the match so he can save face a little and then naturally move into the feud that should have happened 18 months ago

 

On a side note, i hope Jamie Noble isn't hanging on to his job by the skin of his teeth because i'd easily place him towards the top of the cruiserweights

Is Matt Hardy going to be the World Champion or what the hell is going on? It seemed about 6 months-a year or so back, they doing their best not to push him and he was jobbing a lot even though he was over like rover but he just kinda went 'yeah **** you bitches, watch this' and proceeded to steal the show on like every Smackdown so they have no choice but to push him. Granted he has been working with MVP, William Regal and Finlay and whatnot but damn......

 

Edge vs. Matt Hardy is pretty much a lock, I'd say, to be a World Title match at one of the PPVs in the coming months. His mic work needs work but he was pretty good when he was V1 a few years back.

SmackDown still rules despite catching AIDS in the draft. Hardy vs. Finlay ruled hard, obviously. Fun main-event, two fun squashes and lots of Kristal. Mark Henry is my hero.

Mark Henry was God like awesome on Smackdown. No one has ever registered such disgust at a jobber for daring to fight back. I think Funaki more than learned his lesson.

If Cena is the best big match worker in wrestling today, Matt Hardy is the best midcarder on the entire planet. The guy is just pulling out awesome match after awesome match with no care for anything else. I have no doubt that we're gonna see Edge/Hardy eventually, and you know it's gonna be awesome. Leave the talking to Edge, the wrestling to Hardy, and let the good times roll.

 

All things considered, the draft hasn't done major damage yet. In fact, I quite enjoyed this weeks show moreso than I have done lately. Back to the good stuff.
