Lingering questions about the ECW Title

19th June 2007

When ECW resumes this week, the mystery surrounding the fiery demise of Mr. McMahon and the investigation will likely be ongoing. Will investigators be able to uncover any clues in the presumed death of the Chairman? And how will his death impact the Land of the Extreme?

Meanwhile, ECW is without a champion because Bobby Lashley was drafted to Raw and stripped of the ECW World Title. With Vengeance: Night of Champions quickly approaching and two new additions to ECW – Chris Benoit and Boogeyman – thrown into the mix, will the confusion over the ECW World Title be clarified?

Benoit had a successful homecoming when he teamed with CM Punk to defeat the New Breed’s Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von by disqualification. Just as he did in the 1990s in the original ECW, the Rabid Wolverine will look to make an impact in his new home. But will the New Breed have something to say about it?

Boogeyman grossed out both ECW fans and Matt Striker in his first trip in the Land of the Extreme. Watch out ECW – the Boogeyman is comin’ to get ya! The only question is who is next on his worm-infested list.

Find out the answers to these questions and more on ECW this Thursday at 11.30pm on Sky Sports 3.[/Quote]

Jesus Christ, if Vince McMahon really was dead he wouldn't get this much exposure. Is this how it's going to be for the rest of the summer? 40% other stuff, 228% WHO KILLED VINCE OMG VINCE IS DEAD?

But other than the death crap, the show has been good so far. Benoit/Burke was good, Nitro/Nunzio was good (with a decent finish), and CM Punk/Cor Von should be at least decent. It would be even better if Cor Von won would so we could see Benoit/Cor Von. Screw Punk, he can go piledrive a referee or something.

Also, Nitro won because HE'S SEXY. He said so himself.

ECW, right now, for me, is the show to watch. Screw RAW with boring Lashley and boring Cena. Give me Monty Brown and his POUNCEEEEEEE~!, give me C.M Punk, give me the greatness taht is Elijah Burke and finally, give me the God that is Nitro. Plus, add Benoit to the mix and I'm a happy camper.

Godamit. So I just got this TVU Player which has a sci-fi stream a few weeks ago, and I'm sittin down to watch my first WWECW show since literally the first week it aired, when my girlfriend says "Hey, let's go for a walk and get some gelato" "Uh, ECW's on." "Oh, well, we don't have to... (sub text: we can stay home and fight about how you'd rather watch TV than hang out with me, if you want)" So we just got back... I had peach...

I think this episode was above average.

Chris Benoit vs Ellijah Burke, was good technical wrestling but it never really had the opportunity to start and have a great rythm.

Kevin Thorn vs Tommy Dreamer, Thorn has some abilities in the ring and this match was watchable even thought it wasn't good.

Johnny Nitro vs Nunzio, good match but too short. Nitro did some awesome moves there, and Nunzio responded well in a short back and forth match.

CM Punk vs Marcus Cor Von, decent main event, not anything special, but typical wrestling match.

6.5/10 to the show, would have been 7.5 with longer matches and less McMahon ****.

I thought ECW was pretty good this week. I think Benoit/Burke might have been the show stealer of the match. Why they didn't put Benoit/Burke as the main event, I don't know. I guess because Punk/Cor Von could've gone either way. What a sick landing by Punk on that powerslam that Cor Von did (and possibly botched). If he did botch it, then that is ironic, because about the time he hit that counter, I was thinking to myself why TNA wanted him to get more training, he seems to do well in the ring. Granted, I guess one possible botch doesn't make you suck.

Did anyone else notice that ECW (the one hour show) had more matches than RAW (the two hour show)?

On a side-note, I thought Styles comment about Justin Roberts was good (after Roberts cut Joey off for the introduction, Styles said, "Justin Roberts does that on purpose"). This is a little weird, but this is the first time I've heard Roberts' name actually said on WWE TV.

I thought Nitro put up a strong ECW debut. I've really always been a fan of Nitro's. Maybe he'll get a good push and hopefully won't be weighed down by Melina's alleged backstage problems.

I like how WWE has Boogeyman defeat a jobber in like 6 seconds with one move, but yet they insist on having guys like Khali wrestle lenghty matches and being in the main event (let's hope that's done with his draft to SmackDown!). Thorn against Dreamer was pretty decent, but also too short, in my view. Much like Punk's head/neck injury, it's hard to tell if Dreamer's ankle is really hurt or if it's a good sell.

It's bad enough how much time the McMahon angle consumes on RAW (hate to imagine how bad it'll be in the 3-hour memorial service next week), not to mention the fact that all ECW and SmackDown! does is replay the same video(s) from RAW (to be fair, SmackDown! added a bit last week by showing superstar comments).

ECW Overall- 6/10

Really enjoyed ECW this week. Benoit vs. Elijah and Nitro vs. Nunzio were both very good. Not that pleased about Punk beating Cor Von and there was too much stuff about Vince on this show (and I'm someone who likes the death angle). Not enough Miz on the show either, though the angle with Extreme Expose could be fun. But yeah, Johnny Nitro is the man.

"That's right baby, I'm hardcore. HARDCORE. And I'm sexy!"

It was a good ECW this week. Burke/Benoit was good, Nitro/Nuzio was good, I found Punk/Cor Von good, Thorn/Dreamer was a bit blah. I do agree that there is way too much of the Vince angle on the show though. Oh and Miz is a Pimp.

You hear that sound? That's the sound of half of the internet asking their mommy to buy extra boxes of Kleenex for Sunday.

Oh and Miz is a Pimp.

Just another victim...Anyone else want to climb aboard Da Miz bandwagon? Get it while its hot people.

My girlfriend likes him, cuz he was on the Real World. So I don't outwardly hate on the guy.

Phhhtttt. Nitro doesn't need any kind of reaction because he is THAT sexy AND hardcore at the same time. Plus, he is the future of ECW. Imagine the feuds with Punk, with Benoit, with Cor Von, with Burke and with The Miz.

People really shouldnt land on their heads like that. It really looked horrible.

But still, Benoit/Punk for the ECW belt. This was something the internet faithful were creaming about 6 months ago. Too bad the smarky bandwagon has swerved into Burke this week.

Was a decent ECW this week. Take away the Vince stuff and CM Punk, and you had a pretty darn tooting good show.

But seriously, Benoit/Cor Von would have been mint. Scre WWE for denying us of such an interesting match. I have no interest in Benoit/Punk at all (although as long as Benoit wins, I don't care).

At last! An ECW title match worth seeing. After all the BS championship reigns of the "Big Show" and "Blah Blah Blashley", Benoit and Punk finally get the shot. Punk has deserved this belt from the second he stepped through the ropes in Hammerstein, he was the most over guy there. Although I wouldn't mind Benoit being champion either.

So it's all good.
