Guest Kanenite
I'd love to see Hamilton win the Title this year. He's an amazingly talented kid and seeing as he'll become more and more experienced every year, he could well go down in history as one of the Greatest F1 Drivers, that's a lot to put on him though. Anyway my bets on Hamilton :P
Guest The Bisch
McLaren for constructors' title seems a pretty safe bet to me :P
Guest Anime Otaku
I've bet on Hamilton/McLaren too. Apart from the first season has anyone won the world title in their first season?
Fidel Cashflow 130
I've bet on Hamilton/McLaren too. Apart from the first season has anyone won the world title in their first season? Nope, closest was Jaques in his second season, although it should be said that Williams told Jaques not to battle Hill in '96, or else I feel he would've taken him. I'm still going with Alonso. Hamilton won't be able to block him all season, and Alonso is going to be giving 100% to thrash Lewis starting in France. It's a rough deal for Alonso though. He's sharing his telemetry with the guy, and he's using it to beat him. But, I also believe Ferrari will return, all that needs to happen is for them to find that ..3 qualy pace, as Kimi showed Sunday they can actually be faster than the Mercs in the long haul. Something else that's important is Kimi getting around Massa. He can't beat the McLarens. Three races in a row now he's just sat in third and watched them run away. I look for the second half of the season to be Kimi-time, and for the McLaren's to take points away from each other. It's going to be fun. Watch the penulimate race of 96 in Portugal my friend, team orders stood for nothing that year rest assured. Hill could of won the world championship that race was in not for the work of the Williams mechanics on Jaques pitstops. 10 points is a huge lead in this day and age in Formula 1 so i'd put Hamilton has favourite but i would'nt write off Alonso. Ferrari need to up their game quickly if they are to b in with a chance, but i've not seen anything from Kimi to change my mind that he does not really give a toss about it all. Other than setting the fastest lap, pulling a fantastic move to get by Quick Nick and Heikki, and closing a 3 second advantage into nothing as he tried to reel in Massa? This has been Kimi's best race in a while. While he did finish behind him, Kimi definitley outperformed Felipe. He had great speed in Monaco but screwed up, and then was probably the worst victim of the first lap in Montreal, but he definitley rebounded and showed some true class again. Massa, every once in a while, is unstoppable, but he's too sporadic with quickness, and just can't conistently take on the McLaren. Kimi hasn't actually had a clear shot at them in a while, he's always being held up by Nick and Felipe in the opening stints. The race where Kimi can just find some one lap speed and grid above Massa will be the next time he wins. I really think Kimi is set for a 2005-esque late season surge. In an interview with on a Spanish news show. Pedro De La Rosa (McLaren tester, filled in for Montoya last year) said that Kimi had a very special suspension package/setup at McLaren, one which allowed him to slide into corners more aggressively. All the mistakes Kimi has made this season have been from understeering. Judging by the way he went into that pass on Nick and started ripping fast lap after fast lap (before finnaly notching the fastest) I think he as a set-up he likes now. Even after the win in Oz he said they still needed to work on a good set-up, and he may finally have it. But, any chance of him making a comeback lies in Lewis showing a chink in his amour. I was at first surprised, and then happy, about how Alonso has decided to handle Lewis. He's going after him as aggressively as anyone, and both times Lewis has matched his aggression. However, they won't both be able to escape clean for long. Alain Prost, someone who knows all to well about battling teammates, has said this situation is set to explode very soon. There was definitley a more amicable start to Hamilton-Alonso than Senna-Prost, as Alonso has (and still) helped out Hamilton in getting up to speed, but you can't have title favorites on the same team. Alonso is easily angered and, much like Schumi (and Senna and Prost), is not one to shy away from a bit of rule bending. I can only imagine Alonso fuming after first being outbreaked and creatively blocked in two straight races. I'll set a time on this situation getting messy: If, in France, the two McLarens are 1-2, and one tries to pass the other, either or both of them will wreck, and this whole deal gets very, very tense. The best thing that could happen to McLaren is the Ferrari's being a bit more competitve. They can't take either title away from them if, but it should prevent them from killing each other. Chris2K 176
I've bet on Hamilton/McLaren too. Apart from the first season has anyone won the world title in their first season? Yes. Nino Farina. He won the first F1 World Championship in 1950 ;).
