Prelim Backlash Buy Rate

The buyrate for WWE's first tri-brand non-"Big Four" pay-per-view' date=' WWE Backlash 2007, has come in. Not including buyrate numbers for December to Dismember, Backlash 2007 was the least watched WWE pay-per-view since 2004. The previous low was No Mercy 2006, which did about 195,000 buys total. Looking at the graph on corporate.wwe.com, Backlash came in just a smidge below No Mercy 2006, which held the dubious distinction of being the least watched non-ECW pay-per-view since 2004. Judging by the graph, it looks like Backlash 2007 did approximately 190,000 buys. This number is down from last year's show, which did 215,000 buys, and was a single brand pay-per-view no less. Also note, the number for Backlash 2007 is a preliminary estimate, so it may get a slight bump and not wind up being the least watched non-ECW pay-per-view within the past few years. [/quote']

That must be a disapointment to WWE since it was promoted with all the big names on the show

Not really that odd as most of the main matches were built on momentum from Wrestlemania, an event people had forked out for a month earlier. People will only buy so many PPVs.

Should be a sign that peope realize that most of WWE's PPVs will suck (although this one sounded like it delivered mostly) and that there are way too many PPVs per year at 40 bucks a pop.

WWE should have 12 PPV's a year IMO, anything over that is just plain greedy.

They also need to realise that their fans aren't made of money. 15/16 PPVs a year (sometimes which include 2 PPVs in the space of a fortnight) is just plain overkill, and that if they charge so much for a PPV, then people will start to aquire the PPV's by "other means".

Well considering the overall quality of PPV's these days, I'll only buy the Rumble and 'Mania.

I think there should be 8 ppv's a year. the big 4, KoR, a ppv following WM (Backlash) and two more to fill the gaps. NO ppv a month before WM..but maybe an extended RAW or SNME.

If they did that, I would buy more. As it stands, they get enough money from me for what they offer in return.

I feel that there should be more PPV and less free TV. It would give some credibility to the sport aspect of wrestling and make a big bout special, along the lines of UFC.

There are too many PPVs, but I didn't realise you had a crystal ball that tells you when a PPV will suck.

Are you honestly saying that, for example, WWE should bin RAW or Smackdown! and then have more PPV events?

Even UFC have too many PPVs on top of lots of free TV shows as well. Sure they make loads off them, but with all the other MMA shows, the market is being flooded quickly and could cost them.

WWE do have too much TV though with 5 hours of main programming a week.

Thanks for the love. Are you saying most WWE PPV's don't suck? And are you honestly saying the low buyrate doesn't indicate the general audeince didn't think the PPV would suck thus the low buyrates? Thanks for generalizing my response and realising :D

I don't think that "most" suck. Some do, most are above-average at worst. The low buy-rate is most likely due to saturation of the market rather than the quality of the product.

Over in the UK, we get a sweeter deal (for now anyway) than in the US, as we only pay for most of the PPVs rather than all of them. But if I was asked to pay £15 every month, then I would miss some of the shows too.

It just seems like the trend in the last two years leans towards PPVs not being very good. I'm not sure if that is because of an oversaturating of the market or continued bad creative writing. It seems WWE only gets the big buyrates for the top 4 PPVs and the lessers one suffer. I wish WWE would right the ship beause I've been a loyal fan for a long time but just haven't been that impressed with the PPVs for quite a while. I'd say that probably 60% turn out being good but it's hard to buy them knowing you may get robbed with a bad show (I'm a lowly social worker who doesn't make much so that makes it even harder).

I bought quite a few up until about 2 and a half years ago when they seemed to be getting shorter in duration and seemed more like a RAW or Smackdown. I just hate to see the people who fork out their money burned by less than stellar presentations. The workers seem to try hard but but the booking is repetitive and not very origional. That's cool you guys get a deal over in the UK. I've heard before from UK residents that they get a few for free which kinda rocks!

The WWE aught to lower the price on the non-big four PPVs.

$20 would be good, but asking $40 per PPV is just stupid.

Have the Big Four be $40 and the others be $20

Naturally as it was free....

Ummmm not quite clever clogs...

It was higher than most 'free' PPV's from the 3 following years......

That's a shame, seeing as it was a really decent show.

I don't really get why it did a crap buyrate though as the card previous to the PPV looked pretty good. Crappy to see it do worse than last years mess.
