Revisiting the past good or bad idea?

With the return of ECW aswell as the constant speculation and rumours of the return of DX, i was wondering can revisiting the past ever be a success? Now don't get me wrong i was a huge fan of DX and if they do return i know i'll mark out, but after that what are you left with? Once the initial feeling of nostalgia has worn off surely all you've got is something that ran it's course long ago, i mean theres a reason things end everything has a shelf life doesn't it? I personaly can't remember one time when bringing back an old faction or group was a success. So i want to know am i wrong? Does anyone remember when bringing something back was a success?[ maybe even eclipsing the first time around] Or am i right in thinking all it can achieve is to devalue something that was once great?

Sometimes it is good like ECW last year but then Sometimes it is a bad like the NWO in 2002. If DX come back it won't last for long i think and ECW will only go so long untill Vince pulls the plug.

Actually thinking about it, DX coming back wouldn't actually be that great. By 2000 is was getting stale anyway and it was only good when it started and throughout the late 90s.

A one time re-union with HBK and HHH would be fairly good though, though I don't think they should push it any further.

Revisiting the past is a good idea on right terms but there is to much living in the past nowadays for the WWE. It's like they can't create anything new so they just rely on past success's.

I don't think revisiting the past is a good idea in regards to storylines and gimmiks, the DX thing will be short term, fans will get fed up of it pretty quickly I think, there isn't really much they can do that they haven't done before and lets face it Vince just seems them as a way to make more money not as, like before, something exciting for the fans to watch.

Now for ECW I do think its a good idea, its an alternative to Raw and SD and altho still run by WWE fans can then choose to watch one or the other comany making them feel they are getting a better deal from wrestling once again

I really don't see the DX thing going for long. Its been done before, and I doubt anything new and great will come out of it. What are they going to do? Show up at a TNA taping?

The ECW thing I'm not sure about. For one, they are going to have to create new titles for the people on there to hold. And from what I've heard, its being taped like a HEAT taping. It has potential, but I don't know if it will be able to live up to it, or even if the old fans will care for an extended period of time. I mean, sure you'll get to see some of the great old faces, but a lot of them won't be there. Raven, possibly Rhyno, Jerry Lynn, Eddie Guererro(sorry if I killed that spelling.), Chris Jericho, Tajiri, all of them will be gone. I don't know if it will be able to be up to the same quality it was in its glory days. I think they should just let it rest.

Im thinking im actually going to give it a chance this time before i pass judgement. Too often i've spoiled things for myself in the past by being smarky. Im going to simply mark out and enjoy the ride and see where it takes me.......so sue me if thats in any way simplistic, or not fashionable.

When you revisit the past after a long period of time without that thing that you are revisiting, it could work.

If done right DX could last until Wrestlemania 23, any longer than that would be pushing it.

I think DX will probably last for a while, until Trips gets his title shot and gets 'tired' of lugging around HBK again - thereby turning heel again and culminating in some kind of HBK/HBK Generic feud #122233...XD

Prove me wrong, people. :P

if its done right it has a place. short sharp blasts of nostalgia

think this is the key. short blasts of nostalgia are good anything longer and the sell by date expires

'Tired 'of lugging around HBK again, your joking right? HBk has never been carried by HHH and would never to be, this is because HBK is in a completely different league to HHH. Shawn Micheals is one of the greatest wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots, where as HHH just got lucky and pulled the bosses daughter!!!

DX is gonna rule all' date=' simple story really. And if does end in HBK vs HHH feud again, frikkin ace!!![/quote']

Just what Raw needs another HBK, HHH feud, I guess your of the opinion that revisiting the past is a good idea!

The angle (the return of D-X) will draw money so yes it's a good thing to revisit the past when it's done right. The nWo angle bombed because of various circumstances coming together - the fatal blow was Hogan's face turn (nostalgia again there) leaving Hall (who was pi$$ed half the time) and the injury prone Nash. HBK and HHH are still in A1 condition and can make the DX thing work. Plus if you add all the merchandise opportunities such as D-X DVD's and figures T-shirts etc - it translates as a very smart move to do this now. WWE is listening to it's audience this time and that's always smart. If the majority of fans want a nostalgia trip now and again then a smart promoter will give it to them. Unfortunately the trick is to know how much to give them, Hulk Hogan's constant recycling is getting waay old now.
