Guest MrFill
Since he's NOT Irish, and is Northern Irish, I'm sure quite a few people will take offence at this.
Paul 584
Northern Ireland IS STILL IRELAND!!!!! Its just the north. getting offended about it is stupid as you can be English and British, like irish and British. besides....his gimmick is he is Irish. :lol

The Icon 152
North Ireland IS part of the UK, but it's a part in the way Scotland and Wales are. That being it's still a seperate country.
Guest MrFill
Actually Darkie, you CAN'T be Irish and British - Ireland isn't part of the United Kingdom or Great Britain. Unless of course you have dual nationality, then you could be.
Paul 584
Scotland isnt North england though fill. North OF England maybe. Guest Da Pimpsta
And Northern Ireland is north of Ireland - it's a Separate Country! Now hold on Mr Fill you need to get your facts straight everyone here just calls it the north when Micheal Collins signed the document which said that there would be six counties up north which would still be british but really only TWO counties wanted to be part of britan and although I cant remember what the two counties were Micheal Collins still went ahead and signed it so technacally(sp?)only two counties up north are a different country so as you now know the whole debate gets me a bit well angry. Northern Ireland isn't part of Britain, but it is a part of the UK. The UK's full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This argument is pointless anyway. Finlay's Irish. DC 536
actually its nice to see the Mcmahons with there Irish heritage having an Irish character, though why Finlay cant have Princess Paula as his manager i dont know, anyone know if there still together? Northern Ireland IS part of Britian it's not part of Great Britian.

Ireland is part of the British Isles, therefore irish people are British
Guest The B-Man
Isn't this a bit of a moot point? Finlay is an Irishman regardless of whether he's from the North or the South of Ireland. It's like saying I'm not an Englishman because I'm from the North of England not the South. If you ask any man from either Dublin or Belfast if they're Irish, they'd say yes in most cases. As far the this leprechaun cobblers is concerned, how far do you think WWE will go with the Irish stereotyping? Isn't the shelalagh(sp?) and green clover on his attire enough to tell us he's Irish? I'm not sure how the little guy is going to help Finlay. Not sure it will work TBH. Actually if you ask a man in Dublin if he is Irish he will say yes. I would be careful who and where you ask in Belfast.
Paul 584
And Northern Ireland is north of Ireland - it's a Separate Country! Yes Fill North IRELAND!!!! Shall I repeat? North IRELAND!!!! :lol Anyway, from Wiki: Northern Irish nationality People from Northern Ireland are citizens of the UK on the same basis as people from any other part of the UK (i.e. by birth in the UK to at least one parent who is a UK permanent resident or citizen, or by naturalisation). In addition, however, anyone born in Northern Ireland before 2005 (and most persons born in 2005 or later) is also entitled to citizenship of the Republic of Ireland (ROI). This is as a result of the Republic of Ireland extending its nationality law on an extra-territorial basis in 2001 about as a result of the Belfast Agreement of 1998, which stated that: The two governments recognise the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose, and accordingly confirm that their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both Governments and would not be affected by any future change in the status of Northern Ireland. Also its true that Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain, but it is part of the UK.......so British isnt really the correct term is it? Maybe Kingish. Barry is right that it id part of the British Isles, and so is in theory Britain, but so is the ROI. I think this needs splitting.... Guest A.C.
"Ireland" is the name for an Island of Western Europe. The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland share this Island. People from this island are from Ireland and therefore are "Irish", semantically at least.
Guest The B-Man
To break it up further. There is the following: Britain - Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales Great Britain - England, Scotland, Wales UK - Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales So basically Acid is saying Canadians are American since they are part of the same land mass North America.
Paul 584
However Baz, you still miss that Canada isnt called North America while North Ireland IS called well.....North Ireland! :P And by what you are saying everyone in Britain can be called English, Welsh or Scottish if fform the respective countries, but from NI means you are nothing but British? Is that a bit elitist? :lol

Guest MrFill
However Baz' date=' you still miss that Canada isnt called North America while North Ireland IS called well.....North Ireland! :P[/quote'] But Canada is part of the continent of North America, which means that they should be called Americans, since they're on the same land mass & continent. It's "North of Ireland", but the country is called NorthERN Ireland. Tell you what, go over to Belfast and tell them that they're Irish - see how long you last. :lol
Paul 584
Tell you what, go over to Belfast and tell them that they're Irish - see how long you last. :lol My stepmum and her family are from Northern Ireland, they say they are Irish. My grandfathers family came from Belfast and said they were Irish. So maybe, just maybe, I know what I am on about with family ties and all. :P People may consider themselves to be other than they are, doesn't alter the basic facts really. I will conceed Barrys point about saying someone is Northern Irish quite happily as that would be the most ideal. However missing off the Northern is hardly something worth getting offended over is it? Edited May 7, 2006 by Paul
