"The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga

The latest big boxing fight, takes place tonight, so I might aswell ask the obvious question : Who wins?

Mayorga has great power, is fairly fast, and has an aggressive style. Can he pressure De La Hoya and be the first to score a knockout over him (By a head punch obviously)?

Will De La Hoya be able to outbox mayorga, and keep him at bay? He has a great chin, and has taken bigger punches than Mayorga offers, but will he be able to stay with the frantic pace, over a possible 12 rounds?

I'd go with De La hoya by a late TKO, probably 8th, 9th, or 10th round, or decision. I like Mayorga, but he will be outboxed tonight, just like Tito did, when Mayorga wasn't in that fight. I don't give 'El Matador' anything other than a punchers chance.

(If any mods are reading this, is there any chance of a boxing predictions contest? With a prize obviously, and I don't know if enough people are interested, but if there was enough interest, could it happen?)

De La Hoya will out box Mayorga, I have no doubt in that. The only chance that Mayorga has is if he lands a lucky/wild punch.

De la Hoya only has to watch those wild punched that Mayorga throws cause that's the only weapon Mayorga has. He will keep throwing punch after punch until you knock him down.

Same thing happened in his fight against Tito Trinidad, even when Tito was in control of the fight Mayorga kept throwing wild punches to see if he landed a lucky one.

But I have no doubt that De La Hoya will win. I say KO in the 9yh.

Tito outboxed Mayorga

+

De La Hoya outboxed/ran Tito

=

De La Hoya via late round stoppage.

DLH may just be the best overrall fighter Mayorga has faced, and I don't know if he can withstand even an aged De La Hoya's skill.

--Dusty Rhodes is in Las Vegas this weekend for de la Hoya-Mayorga. Rhodes is the special guest of Ricardo Mayorga and will be coming down the aisle as part of his team
If the finish is anything other than a Bionic Elbow, I will be dissapointed.

What about if Mayorga wins through luck, but the decision is reversed because the referee thought he used an illegal shot, or boxing's version of the Dusty finish?

The fight went exactly how i and most others thought it would. Mayorga was far to open and wasn't even the puncher in the fight. Oscar was literally hitting him at will and after the first minute the result was never really in doubt. But props to Mayorga he was game and gave it a good go.After the first knockdown in the 6th he knew he was a sitting duck and there to be taken but he continued and even tried to fire back before being stopped. However crude his in and out of ring tactics are the guy is entertainment from start to finish.

Id like Oscar to fight Mayweather next in September but the fact that Mayweathers father trains Oscar could be a stumbling block. If that did happen i would see it as a 50-50 fight, Floyd is a genius but Oscar is naturally the bigger man and the puncher in the fight add to that it is going to be his last fight so he will want to go out on top.

As for Mayorga i think he should get back into the 147 division where he may be able to get away with his lack of a defence a little more. A Mayorga vs Judah fight would be intriguing as would Mayorga vs Margarito or even Gatti.

BTW good luck to Ricky Hatton next week!!!

I told ya, Mayorga is just a street fighter not a boxer. Oscar gave Mayorga some boxing classes last night round after round.

Even though Mayorga threw far more punches than Oscar he still didn't connect half of the punches he threw.

Mayorga just got out boxed like in his fight against Tito.

And I would love to see Oscar vs Mayweather in September but I don't know if it's gonna happen cause as we all know Oscar's trainer (Mayweather Sr.) said that is De La Hoya fought Mayweather Jr then he wasn't gonna be Oscar's trainer for that fight.

So it's gonna be interesting to see wha happens with that fight.
