Guest Nemesis Enforcer
Much of the WWE lockerroom was shocked with the content of Joey Styles’ promo on RAW, reports PWInsider.com. While the bulk of the content, albeit with a different tone, has been addressed on WWE.com in past interviews with Styles, there was still a feeling of great surprise that the McMahons would allow Styles to deliver such a biting criticism of the WWE product. The promo’s clearance has created optimism that WWE is committed to restoring the “true” ECW this summer. – According to PWInsider.com' date=' Joey Styles penned the entire promo he delivered on last night’s show. The former “voice of ECW” submitted the script to the creative team and received approval. WWE management was reportedly happy with how it turned out.[/quote'] So fingers crossed the old ECW may be back, must admit I was suprised too at his rant Edited May 2, 2006 by Nemesis Enforcer
Guest Dickie Hyde
I was shocked too, and all of what he said had me thinking, "why the hell do i follow this product?" Well, the answer is, im a loyal fan I guess, and Triple H is there. But i wouldn't blame anyone from walking away... I hope they do ECW correctly... Guest The Great Ahmar
I really liked that Promo and also felt like Dickie in that "Wht the hell do I fellow this product" but i still do for some reason! I'm glad they let him come up with and went though with. It seemed to me that he was turning heel towards the end. Is that what they are going to do. ECW the heels? I doubt that very much. Guest horsemansmiler
Ecw wont be heel in the ecw fans eyes. Interesting to see if they go with audiance split or play them off as mega heels like the invasion angle
Guest Brad
That promo was the best promo ever and was the only reason why I had the feeling after Raw that the Raw was very special. I am shocked too with how criticising the promo was, and to be honest at some points I thought it was a shoot, I mean at least it got over the real Joey Styles, and what was good though is that he brought real life smarky issues that are posted on the net everyday into a storyline. I loved every minute of it. I don't think they will put ECW as a heelish group as they know it can't be done, they know that the real product of ECW will never get a negative reaction as most WWE fans who are at the arenas loved ECW. However, with that promo and last year, I can see the ECW brand in storylines hating the WWE. I am not suprised that backstage were a bit uncomfortable with it but I am very suprised that the creative team were ok with it and I never saw it coming either. Guest poland74
To the guys saying "made me wonder why I still follow this product" - Ok I can understand you might be pro wrestling fans like Joey was talking about and you prefer the wrestling matches to all the other stuff that goes on in WWE programming and to some degree I'd agree and say me to, although I do like the sports entertainment bit too but WWE has been "sports entertainment" for a very long time. The "boom" period of the late 90's which everyone still raves about now was still "sports entertainment" so if you've been womdering why you still watch WWE in it's current format, surely you have been wondering this for a longwhile? Maybe ever since you started watching?

I don't wonder why I still watch, I watch because I enjoy wrestling and have been a fan of WWF/E since I first watched a show in 1989, back then it was hardly any proming and just about all wrestling which is what I much prefer, but that won't stop me watching now as I just love wrestling :)
Guest DOB
It was an excellent promo and if ECW is as "real" as joey's promo then maybe we are in for an interesting year. Everything Joey said was right, the 'GOD' angle is patethic and is even worse than the Katie vick angle,Yes even worse than that patethic waste of time. The fact that a wrestler who was one of the best characters in WWF is now tramautised by a date that he hears in his head is so stupid it's hard to believe,i'm suprised Styles didn't bring it up last night. Joey was right on the ball WWE is in a slump right now and maybe ECW and real pro-wrestling will change it.

Guest Deviatic Trauma
That Promo reminded me alot of the old Pillman "shoots". It seemed very real and he said with a lot of passion, it's great words to hear heh........I think majority of fans agree with him and everything he said was true......I saw it on youtube
Guest Gooneronastick
Not only was I shocked at the content of Joey's promo/shoot, I applauded it. Personally I thought Joey brought his own style (no pun intended) of PBP to the WWE and was doing a damn good job of it too. The fact that Vince allowed him to blast the WWE product and its angles so openly will hopefully move the product on to something in between the old style wrestling PBP movecalling and the OTT (imo) storytelling. And good for Joey for calling Vince on self-stroking his own ego. Lagwagon says it best....................BEST PROMO EVER!

That bird who is a guest commentator at WM2 calls it that and so does Vince at some point through the event. For crying out loud the matches are worked and so are the angles. Always has been always will be, Vince just coined the term. If we really wanted to go all technical about things you could say the only Professional Wrestling that exists is Shoot Wrestling and Olympic Wrestling. Why? Because the matches are real so are the interviews and promos. Nothing's scripted or pre-determinated.:xyx And to the people saying how the promos were'nt as long in the Attitude days etc, etc, Was I the only one watching an entire Raw dedicated to Steve 'hunting down' and humiliating Mr McMahon(making him wet himself). Or the whole Austin outside Pillmans house debacle? And the list could go on and on. Edited May 2, 2006 by Thirteen
Guest Anime Otaku
I loved that promo and you could hear that it was atleast a mixed reaction in the audience, the most striking part to me though was a tiny thing that Joey did, it was when he chucked away the mic collar near the end. However it's not unusual for Vince to allow people to critizise the product publicly while he employs them, the person that springs to mind ironically has an ECW link too, Mick Foley. The difference that does make Joey's promo a little surprising of course is that Foley only criticized the product in his books and not on TV that I remember. Guest Dickie Hyde
I think I started off a bad trend here. I didn't mean "why do i still watch this product" I watch it because I want to. Truth be told, it's got a lot tackier. (i'm not talking about the main events and main storylines here) You can argue that the attitude era was the same, fact being it wasn't, it was all action, and you had guys like Austin/Rock/HHH against each either, which quite honestly, would put anyone's butt in their seat. I didnt mean it as an insult to the business, it was more of an ironic viewpoint, and shows how much i'd like the old ECW back, as a change of scenery if not anything else. Guest Boyo
The biggest danger I forsee is WWE taking too much of a big a hand in the playing out of "The Styles Situation". Remember this time last year when Matt Hardy randomly appeared on Raw and started attacking Edge? What a shock that was! No one expected it. The worst thing was that WWE then tried to make Hardy's appearances the following few weeks just as shocking, and it failed. We knew Hardy was going to turn up, the "shoot factor" had long gone. I wouldn't have Styles on next week's Raw, but I would have Vince McMahon make his own "shoot comments", all sugar-coated and slick and professional, like you would expect from a WWE production. Have Vince sit down with JR and do another "Bret screwed Bret" promo, saying it was ECW's style that caused it to fold, and that WWE's ott angles have allowed it to stay in business. Make him ask Joey Styles that if all these fans prefer ECW then why is it out of business and being revived by Vince McMahon? In my opinion, that would be perfect. Absolutely perfect. Can you imagine the vitriol for the fans who would then be doubly eager to want ECW to succeed? If they milk and milk Joey Styles for "shoot" promos then we will get bored quickly. Cheers! Guest horsemansmiler
Credit to wilkpedia.com In just a few moments, at my leisure, I'm gonna call Vince McMahon out to his ring in front of his public on a television show that's owned by his grand company. At least, that is, until this Sunday at Survivor Series. I know how much you people appreciate what Shane and Stephanie and I have done. How Shane and Stephanie and I have stood up to the tyranny of Vince McMahon. And the way it is ladies and gentlemen is quite simple: the WWF will die this Sunday. But don't blame me for that. It's not my faulty. I'm not the one who ruined everything that was accomplished by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. You see at Survivor Series, it means so much more than just the personalities that are involved. It's about ending what Vince McMahon has tried to accomplish. I sat there at that desk on Monday and I listened to Mick Foley, and I agreed with everything Mick Foley had to say; that the WWF truly does suck! Don't boo me! Have you watched the television show lately? Vince McMahon has lost his mind! The man doesn't have it anymore! He's a has-been. His ideas are antiquated. His concepts are Draconian and Mick Foley was right because the WWF is imploding from within. Like every great empire, the WWF is imploding from within. Vince's loyal employees, like "Stone Cold", left him, like Mick Foley wants nothing to do with him, Vince's own children want him to burn in Hell, and I don't blame 'em. Vince McMahon will see the WWF die this Sunday at Survivor Series and he has no hope to save his precious company. Vince McMahon has the same chances of saving the WWF as he did of realizing his dream of starting a football league! (Vince's McMahon's music hits and he enters the ring.) I want you to know that I was down on my knees because I know you're used to men kissing your ass, Vinnie. Every time you walk in the back, there's Patterson and Brisco, 'Oh, what a great idea you had, Vince!' You like men kissing your ass, don't you, Vince? Because that's what you're all about; a billionaire! The billionaire, Vince McMahon! The creator of sports entertainment! I've waited so long to see you face to face like this. And I've waited so long to tell you to your face that I hate your stinking guts. And it's not just me, it's your children that hate your stinking guts, Vince, and at Survivor Series, your children are going to do to you what I've waited my whole life to see someone do to you, Vince. You are, so help me God, the most disgusting, vile, son of a bitch I've ever seen in my life. You took Hulk Hogan’s blood and you built Titan Towers. You stole Bret Hart’s dream, and with that money, bought yourself an airplane with WWF all over it. You did that and you know it, you son of a bitch! You stole Shawn Michaels’ smile, took your company public and made yourself a billionaire. But not a self-made billionaire, like you like to tell everybody you are. Oh no…see, you’re a billionaire on other people’s hard work. Your father, your father, Vince McMahon, your father went around the country and shook the hand...you know I'm telling you the truth, don't you? You know in your heart that I'm telling you the truth, that your father shook the hand of every promoter in this country that he'd never compete against them, that his son would never compete against them. And when your father DIED, you competed! And with your ruthless, merciless, take-no-prisoners attitude, you drove everybody out of business, didn't you, Vince? You ran all the competition into the ground and you stole all their ideas and you made yourself a billionaire out of it! And you know whose ideas you stole the most, Vince? You stole mine. See, I don't give a damn about Don Owen and Sam Mushnick and Jim Crockett, I care about what you did to me and my family. How you stole my dreams, how you stole my legacy, how you stole everything that ECW represented. Because while Doink the Clown had green hair and a rubber nose, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was drinking his first beer in ECW, damn you. While Bobby Heenan and Gene Okerlund were dancing around singing "Tutti Fruitti", ECW was producing the edgy TV that you named "attitude." 'Oh, we've got attitude!' You've got nothing, man! What you've got is my ideas and you stole my life, my money, my legacy! (throws his hat at him) SCREW YOU! SCREW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! I'll tell you something, your own children hate your guts! And on Sunday, your children are going to get even with you, for everything that you stole from me, from everything you stole from them! You flaunt your affairs in front of your wife! You flaunt your affairs in Playboy for your children to read! You *******! Look at Tazz! Look at Tazz! This man was a killer, he was a machine! He was a wrestler, a great wrestler, a real man. But wrestling is a dirty word to you, isn't it, Vince? Your father built a wrestling company, and you, you had to have sports entertainment. 'We have to have sports entertainment, ha ha ha!' (Points to Tazz) He was a wrestler, he was a great wrestler, he was a man. And now, he's a fat, little, obnoxious color commentator, and not even a good one! He is a sports entertainer. He is not a wrestler because you made wrestling a dirty word. You made wrestling a dirty word, Vince. What kind of a man are you? What kind of a man takes wrestling and makes it sports entertainment? At Survivor Series, you're going down. You're going down, Vince. I promise you, you're going down, and I'm going to watch it and your children are going to lift their leg, and stand over your grave and we're going to laugh. And you know what else I'm going to do, Vince? I'm going to run your ass out of business. And there's not a damn thing you can do about. I'm feeling good about myself... Thats the sort of confrontation i want between heyman and vince. I totally forgot that Promo. Wish i had a video if it.
Guest FreeSpirit
That to me was the best promo ever. Heyman really delivered that night. Guest horsemansmiler
That to me was the best promo ever. Heyman really delivered that night. I remeber watching it on smackdown getting goosebumps because it was so well deliverred and with tazz choking heyman out it was just a perfect segment. I thought Styles was shooting for a bit too, nice that WWE can aknowledge the criticism it gets from it's fans - plus makes ECW look more legitimate as well. I really hope WWE drops the "sports entertainment soap opera" basis and goes back to the second "W" Wrestling! That said, Raw has shown a marked improvement recently. Guest Jack
With this thread being one people can continually add to, I may aswell post another promo instead of making a new thread for it all. Hopefully it isn't closed :) From RAW this week: "You wanna apologize...like nothing happened...like you didn't knock me on my ass in front of millions of people worldwide...and i'm gonna come there and work with you...i'm not coming back! And now...thanks to the magic of live television i'm gonna show the whole world why for 7 years in ECW i was the unscripted, uncensored, loose cannon of commentary! 6 months ago WWE called ME...i didn't call this company because I was looking for a job...i didn't need a job! WWE called me because they humiliated and fired, AGAIN, Jim Ross! So i get JR's spot...and from WEEK 1, WEEK after WEEK i got an on-going lecture about the difference in "professional wrestling" and "sports entertainment"...I'm not allowed to say "pro wrestling", i'm not allowed to say "wrestler", i have to say "sports entertainment" and refer to the wrestlers as "superstars"...I'm told to DELIBERATELY IGNORE the moves and the holds during the matches so i can tell stories...well, ignoring the moves and the holds is DAMN INSULTING for the athlethes, the WRESTLERS, not the ENTERTAINERS, who leave their familes 300 days a year to ply their craft in that ring! There's the best part: because i'm not a "sports entertainment storyteller" i get pulled from Wrestlemania, and the reason i'm given is that i don't sound like Jim Ross...who's the guy they fired in the first place...that makes sense, right? So I swallow the bitter pill, I'm a company guy and get bumped from Wrestlemania...then i get bumped from BACKLASH? I'm not good enough to call BACKLASH? In ECW i called LIVE pay-per-views SOLO, on my own, no color commentary dragging me down...wasn't done before me, hasn't been done SINCE! But I'm not good enough to call Backlash because I'm not a "sports entertainment storyteller"...you know what? I'm SICK of "sports entertainment", I'm SICK of male cheerleaders, I'm sick of boogers and bathroom humor and semen and I'm SICK of our chairman who likes to talk about his semen, He mocks God...HE MOCKS GOD!!! And makes out with the divas all to fit his own insatiable ego! I am SICK of "sports entertainment" and most of all i'm SICK of you fans that buy into this crap...this "sports entertainment" CIRCUS!!! I didn't need this job and i don't want this job anymore... (Joey takes out the WWE logo from the mic and throws it out) I QUIT!!!" EDIT: Moved to the thread about the promo, rather than resurrecting a 3 month old thread.
