does anyone agree that rey mysterio is a poor champion. his matches are always the same and is too small for the title and is only champion because of eddie guerero.

I agree that Rey seems too small, indeed the fans have turned on him. WWE have edited SD the last few weeks because the fans were booing him so much.

 

That's where we stop agreeing though, personally I think he paid his dues long enough and deserves to be champ.

I don't like Ray as champ and never did, he just looks so out of place with that belt on him, Angle seemed alot more natural champ and think he should have kept it.

 

I agree to a pont with the eddie bit, WWE did use that to give him momentum which was wrong in my view and I think WWE is now reaping what it sowed in regards to the booing of Ray now

Gotta love Stan’s post though lol, the grammar is poor and the quantity is short but it's his opinion and he does have a point, and he gets it across.

 

As for the thread in question, Yes it seems odd Mysterio being champion quite frankly, but you know WWE, trying to do best for the sake of ratings and merchandise etc etc. But actually, I don't think it's turned out to well with results such as 2.0 million just last week, very poor indeed.

Rey wouldn't be booed if it was this time last year. He and Eddie were consistant rating draws and appealed to the important hispanic audience, he had a great workrate in his feud with Eddie, and everything was great. But then WWE went and made him the Eddie Guerrero tribute act, and had Orton tell everyone the truth - Rey was a charity case, getting a push because of Eddie. Fans cottoned on and backlashed.

 

Rey should be champion for the same reason Cena is - strong ratings, strong house show attendances, tonnes of merchandise sales and a key into a certain important demograph. As it is, he's champion because Eddie died. If it isn't true, WWE has done little to dispel it.

ok so Angle needed to drop i but there is more credible people he could have dropped it to, and since he didn't take time off right away he could have held on to it until a big name came back to take it off him at the next PPV

Taker and JBL would have made better champs then Rey put it that way but I was thinking more Batista, he was over wit hthe title and when he came out to talk a while ago saying he would be back soon the fans went nuts, keep it on Angle, but not have him wrestling thus he could rest up and not get more injured, then drop it to ig Dave when he comes back

Angle isn't a face per say tho, the fans cheer him but he has never done anythign to say he a face not heel, Rey is a face but gets booed so where is the problem in Angle keeping it and dropping to Batista?

I think people cheer Angle now because of the respect. I mean, he's a great athlete and always works through his injuries until it gets really bad, always risking himself and that earns respect.

There are not even pushing Rey as a credible champion. Every time he is mentioned on WWE.com its always the same - how can Rey survive against the wrestling machine Kurt Angle, will the ultimate underdog succeed, everyone always doubted him, how much longer can he keep the title etc, etc. It just seems that they are already speculating when he will lose it when he's only just won it.

 

how can they expect fans to see him as a strong champ if they don't even believe it themselves?

Anyways. Rey did pay his dues and deserved a title run. I like him, just find him boring in ring. I wish he could do his more 'challenging' moves.

There was nobody left on SD to give the strap to when Batista left...so why not kill two birds; get Rey's title run and tribute to Eddie done now before Dave comes back and possibly takes the title back.

Just read this. Thats pretty much spot on..and it's a shame because Although I say he is a bit boring in ring...he still entertains me 100x more than Cena and does not deserve to be booed

IMO rey wil only ever hold this title once becouse lets face it he is the most boring wrestler on the roster and Im including Funaki in that.

it was well know that eddie was going to win the world title off dave batista only a few days after he died, rey has been made a joke by the wwe but thats all he ever really has been, a freak show, (oh lets go watch the midget fight real men). no body cheered becouse he was good just becouse they thought they should,

on the cena note NO BODY is as poor a wrestler as he is, i have been a wrestler now for 5 or 6 months and i use more moves than he does, he's lazy and dont like bumping. (lets just hope mark henry get hold of him)

in short though rey should drop the belt ASAP someone suggested melina i would find that more realistic

Thing about Rey is, he's just terrible on the mic. When anyone else was champion, they'd come out almost every show and cut a promo, rey never seems to do that because he's so bad at it. He's a fighting champion cos there really isn't much else he can do.

Well, youre showing how little you understand the buisness then. While I am not Cenas biggest fan I at least know that being a wrestler is NOT about how many moved you can do.

As for lazy, thats the LEAST thing to be said about him. The guy is energetic and works more than most on the roster. And doesnt like to bump!!??? The guy has bumped big for Taker, Kurt, Y2J, Brock and Christian among others.

I'd say he is a poor champion, not because of his skills, because he doesent fit the WWE main event scene & has the title because Eddie Guerrero died.

His ring work is fine, but pretty stale ditto with his gimmick/apperence. Plus he's been a mid-carder so long his step up didnt really have much believability to it, I mean he's lost a thousand times, but all of a suddden he's the best guy on Smackdown? I can't buy it.

Most of all though is the whole Eddie situation, Eddie & Rey might have been close, but to use his death to promote an angle is the lowest of the low, even lower than Katie Vick, because Miss Vick was a fictional character, Eddie wasn't.

Neither can the WWE according to everything about Rey on TV and WWE.com. That certainly doesn't help the situation.

 

I think Rey's shot at the big time has been tainted by the way they used Eddie to try and get him the face heat that he already had. I still don't get why they used Eddie to get Rey mega over when a) he already was and b) they were the most bitter rivals in the company just before Eddie died.

Wrestling isn't about the most moves, but what you do with them. See: Hogan, Hulk. And bumping is probably the one thing Cena does best. Problem is, most of his opponents aren't bigger than he is, so it looks stupid for him to be the underdog. That's why matches against Big Show work - Cena can bump for his life, and it looks realistic when he overcomes the odds because the Big Show is a realistic odd to beat.
