PLEASE NOTE: THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SMACKDOWN SPOILERS BEFORE IT AIRS ON FRIDAY AS IT IS BEING TAPED IN THE UK ON SATURDAY 22ND APRIL!

Preview:

The World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line when Friday Night SmackDown emanates from London, England.

At WrestleMania 22, Rey Mysterio won the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat Match. In London, Rey will face the former champion Kurt Angle one on one. Can the Wrestling Machine become a seven-time champion, or will the ultimate underdog leave London with the gold still around his waist?

United States Champion JBL has issued a challenge to the winner of the World Heavyweight Championship match; however, during his Great American Celebration last week, JBL told the fans that he would first take his championship to England and face the finest England has to offer. Before he gets to the World Heavyweight Champion, who will JBL find to back up his claim?

Also, Bobby Lashley will face Mark Henry in the next King of the Ring tournament match. Kurt Angle and Booker T have already advanced to the semifinals; will it be the hard-hitting, soft-spoken Lashley or the World’s Strongest Man who joins them?

Anyone who went last night? I imagine it will come across on TV as your average Smackdown, but wow, it was my first live event and i thought it was awesome, a real joy to watch.

Highlights for me were Benoit coming out first for Velocity, i don't think anyone was expecting it and the pop was massive, just watching how smooth he works was great!

JBL's promo was excellent, although i dont think he was expecting the cheers for hammering Tony Blair, he still got the most heat by a long way.

Was another deafening pop when Regal came out and it was excellent to be in the crowd for that match.

How sexy is Melina? Had one of the best views in the house for her entrance :)

Was anyone else in the walkway section? How hot is Booker's pyro? Could you guys feel the heat from the other end of the arena?

I missed most of the Henry/Lashley match as i decided then was the time to get another pint, the crowd sounded pretty hot for the majority of the time i was waiting in line (Seems i wasnt the only who chose this moment to get something to eat or drink).

Anyone else see Gunner Scott fall over, i saw him trip on the mat but my friend who was in front of me said one of the camera's broke because of this? Will be interesting to see how its edited.

Even though Id been told Taker hadnt travelled, i was still really hoping the lights would go out when Khali was ranting. (What? lol the one time that chant was actually merited!)

Got to shake Rey's hand on his way down to the ring, but was behind Angle all the way, i wasnt one of one's booing Rey, but i was solidly behind Kurt in this one, as were atleast half the crowd, although Rey got cheers from everyone including those who booed at the end, crowd was rocking for this one.

I was really expecting it to be JBL who interfered so was pretty suprised it was Henry, i was just over an arm lenth way from the table spot and actually heard Kurt tell Henry to "take his time" when he layed him on the table, after the spot and even after the camera's went off (atleast i assume they had as Henry had gone) one of the American Security guys came over and literally started screaming at us all to back up, so i don't know if Kurt was really hurt at all but if he wasnt, the sucurity guy was a seriously over dramatic idiot.

Still, i had an amazing time and will deffo be looking into getting tickets for Manchester despite the extra travel, maybe I'll try getting tickets for both and make a weekend of it :)

Just got back from Wembley Arena, and overall it was a pretty decent show.

That might've been because it was live. A funny note, a loud "Cena sucks"

chant broke out befor the show started, and when thery showed the

Wrestlemania 22 recap. Rey was booed a little, too.

Velocity:

Chris Benoit def Vito - Benoit was really over with the UK crowd. The match

was short and sweet. Benoit hit his signatured moves and made Vito tap out

to the Crossface.

Matt Hardy def. jobber - Hardy was super over as well. Hardy got most of the

offense in, which is expected. Over pretty quickly, with the Twist of Fate.

Pirate Birchill def Nunzio - Birchill got an insance reaction, being from

England and all. Nice match here, with Nunzio getting some decent heat.

Orlando Jordan def. Scotty 2 Hotty - well, I think that was the outcome. I

went for a drink in this one.

SmackDown!:

They hype the Angle/Mysterio main event quite a lot in the opening package.

JBL cuts a promo, appearing with a jacket showing the USA flag. He also

carried two mini USA flags with him. He totally ripped into the British and

got a ton of heat for it. He said how we couldn't win the war without help -

heh, look who's talking USA! Regal came out to a mighty ovation where he

slated the USA calling them cowards and all. It got a big reaction. Now it's

time for JBL vs. Regal for the US Title.

JBL def. Regal to retain the U.S Championship - Fair enough match. Regal

seemed to be knocked dizzy after a stiff kick by Bradshaw. Crowd loved

Regal, but JBL hit the Clothesline from Hell for the win.

Backstage interview with Booker T and Sharmell. Kristal asks Booker who he

predicts will win the World Championship tonight. Booker said it doesn't

matter because he's the next King of the Ring. Gunner Scott interrupted and

reminded Booker T of how he was victorious in their match the other week.

Booker said he'd take Scott on any time... but not tonight because he has a

cough. Funny stuff by Booker. Book then says he will find an opponent for

Scott tonight.

Super Crazy, London and Kendrick def. MNM and Gregory Helms in a six-man tag

team match - Pretty fun bout, but it felt a little short. Lots of

high-flying stuff as per usual by London and Kendrick. London got the pin on

Helms. Melina was fuming.

Following the six man tag match, Melina is seen in the back with Nitro and

Mercury and she asks how they can lose four times in a row to London and

Kendrick. They argue their case, but she says she needs to freshen up. She

walks over and sees Jillian Hall and grabs the mirror off her. She says shes

sorry for Jillian getting fired last week and offers her a job - to help put

her make up on. After that they both get in a long-winded catfight which

ended with a lot of make-up all over them.

Rey Mysterio did an interview with Kristal in the back, and was cheered

greatly, and booed a little. He spoke about how he's on top of the world and

says if he Angle beats him he thanks everyone or something. I couldn't

really hear because when he said if Angle beats him, the crowd gave a very

loud pop. At the end though, everyone was clapping him. They obviously heard

what he said.

Lashley is in the back talking about how he's looking forward to facing Mark

Henry in the toughest match of his career. Short little promo with him

warming up.

Lashley def. Mark Henry via Count out to advance in the King of the Ring

tournament - Slow match. Lashley was super over though. Henry got a very

little reaction. Pretty boring until Lashley picks Henry up which got a big

reaction. He tries to give him the Dominator but Henry is too big. Henry is

knocked out the ring and just, well.. lies there for the ten count. After

the match, Henry beats down Lashley and does the big splash, crushing

Lashley in the ringpost on the outside.

Booker T comes down to the ring and tells everyone he's found Gunner Scott

an opponent. The opponent likes to fight and is 100% Irish. And so let the

match begin!

Finlay def. Gunner Scott - Booker was doing announcing with Sharmell. Crowd

were pretty dead through this, though we loved Finlay and booed Scott!

Finlay was pretty rough with him, and after interference from Booker T (high

super kick on the outside) Finlay hit his finisher. Booker and Finlay beat

down Scott until Benoit made the save and chased them off.

Kristal came down to the ring, followed by The Great Khali and Daivari.

Daivari spoke about how they've destroyed the Undertaker and taken his

spirit and how Taker is scared of Khali - the usual. THEN, they gave Khali

the microphone... again! It was absolutely hilarious to watch. Nobody

understood what he was saying. Thunderous "What" chants broke out after

everything he was saying. Really funny segment, and ended with Kristal being

scared off to the back. Lots of Undertaker chants and the fans were REALLY

let down that he didn't come out. A total waste of time.

Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Championship ended in a

No Contest - The crowd were avsolutely ELECTRIC for this main event! The

crowd were probably 65-35 in favor of Kurt Angle. There was not a silent

moment in the match. It was really good and fast paced; your typical

Rey/Angle contest. There were loud boos for Rey, and loud cheers for Kurt,

however, there wasn't that much difference, really. Match ended just as it

began to get good. Rey hit the 619 and then went for the West Coast Pop, but

Angle countered into the Ankle lock which brought EVERYONE to their feet.

Then, out of absolutely nowhere, Mark Henry attacks Angle and Mysterio. Ref

calls for the bell. What a damn let-down. Everything was going fine until

Henry had to butt his nose in! Anyway, Henry beat Angle down on the outside

and set up a table. He put Angle on the table and then delivered a splash

from the apron, crushing Angle and the table. Honestly, it looked

ridiculous. It looked as if Henry barely touched Kurt. Henry posed and then

went to the back, while the referee did the old "X" sign and tons of

officials came rushing out. Angle looked very stiff, and was eventually

helped to the back. It could've very well been a work, but they sold it

pretty well if it was! Rey posed a little after and got booed a little too,

and went to the back with the World title.

Random:

All throughout the night they were showing shot video clips of Kurt Angle's

World/WWE Title wins, hyping the match big time.

On his way to the ring, Gunner Scott tripped over and knocked the camera man

down. Everyone burst out in laughter and chanted "she fell over! she fell

over!". I doubt it will be shown on TV.

All in all, it was an OK event, but I've been to better ones. The main event

(Angle vs Rey) was going amazingly well. The crowd were so jacked and into

it and was split down the middle (well, near enough) but the ending totally

killed it. We all didn't know what to do. It was fun, though.

Biggest pops:

1. Kurt Angle

2. Rey Mysterio

3. William Regal

4. Chris Benoit

5. Pirate Birchill

Biggest heat:

1. JBL (mainly from the opening promo, which gained a TONNNNN of heat!)

2. MNM

3. Mark Henry (especially when he interfered in the main event)

4. Great Khali and Daivari

5. Nunzio

Hope that helps you out. :xyx

No Taker, No Batista, No Orton... and an early finish. And Rey retained through a Henry interruption... very poor.

Glad to see Angle and Benoit.

For all those complaining about the 'Taker no-show, and I can understand being miffed, they have to take it in the context of the storyline.

They are [ushing and promoting it as his spirit has been broken by being destroyed by Khali after nailing him with his best punches. I know we've seen it before, and that Undi' will come back and kill Khali in the end.....but to have him challenge straight away would be rushing things.

Have Khali destroy the despensible roster.....even up to some of the higher mid-carder/lower main-eventers.....then have the roster plead with 'Taker to come back and help them, with him being the "locker-room leader" and all......

No point rushing the fued and having 'aker come back too soon.

IMO When Taker returns he needs to abandon the current look and go for more of the '98/early Attitude era look. The tanktop isn't working and the hat just doesn't look to good in the entrances now. There's still reminiscence of ABA in there and it needs to go completely to be honest, back to real, real vintage Taker.

People are becoming tired of his current modified character - quarter ABA and three quarters Phenom, he hardly says anything... He just turns up here and there, collects his pay check and is just there for his legendary status. Sure, work part-time but they should still sell him as a current, active superstar, it's always legend this and legend that, and past this, past that, he needs to be a normal competitor and not just this guy that is seen here and there for his legendary status. People have had enough of this now, from what I've seen in forums anyway.

Just look back around 98, Taker would always cut a promo here and there in the deadman character 'Creatures of the night etc etc' and his promos were actually one of the appealing things about him with his deep voice and forcefullness, but there's none of it now, people just see this 10 hour entrance and then a quick fight with him coming into the ring staring at his opponent, same old same old, over and over again... Time to make a few changes to Taker I think if they don't want the risk of people turning off him completely. Things will just carry on though, same old same old.. Hopefully I'm proved wrong sometime though.

Easy when you look at it like that. But I have been to 4 Smackdown shows (UK) in the last 2 years. (3 on TV) and not once have I seen The Undertaker. I saw him in the hotel once, (to which he had to tell a bunch of kids to "WAIT") but never making his famous entrance :evil Or wrestle for that matter. :help

What does this tell you about Taker? He's too good to travel to foreign countries, so don't expect him.

Obviously... and I wasn't expecting him, it's just disappointment when he doesn't show up. And the fact that I saw him in the hotel in person last year, and he didn't appear on the show, made me quite gutted.

Taker was at a NEC house show in 2003 that I went to (challenged for the belt against Lesnar), and he was at the 2005 April tour (I think), even though he wasn't on the TV show.

I've just finished watching Smackdwon this week (I have my means)

And i have to say, probably the worst Smackdown by a country mile in a long long time. There wasn't really any part of the show that sticked out

I have no idea what Mark Henry is doing apparently going back in a feud with Kurt. What i don't want is a January re-run

I'm not liking Mysterio as champion whatsoever - there's just nothing legit there for me at all. Right from the introductions, you look at Angle and think, "Yeah, there's a champion"; but i just don't feel that with Rey

I said it from the second Orton got suspended that, in my eyes, Smackdown would suffer; and judging by this performance, it really has. They seem stuck back in that rut that they were towards the end of 2005. The sooner both Orton and DAVE~ get back the better

I really don't get why Birchill wasn't on the main show. They are trying to push him as the UK hero are they not, and then they have the guy who's been booked a bad guy play the babyface against JBL.

"Can the miracle continue for Rey Mysterio" - Michael Cole.

"Rey's an underdog" - Michael Cole.

So, I'm actually meant to like Rey Mysterio after being told he's a loser that got lucky?

Agreed, the was they're portraying Rey is complete bull.

And the horribleness continues...

From wwe.com

Rey Mysterio continues to live his dream after somehow surviving his World Heavyweight Championship match with Kurt Angle on Friday Night SmackDown.

The sooner Mr Kennedy comes back the better! Rey Mysterio stinks! Kennedy.

If your saying Kennedy.....should be in the World Title scene when he comes back then i couldnt disagree more, he should be in a couple of high profile fueds with people that dont hold titles, then he should be in the US Title picture, THEN he should be in the world title scene, shoving him in it this soon will be a huge mistake.....Kennedy.
