The creators of cult online videogames show Consolevania have been commissioned to produce a new six-part series for BBC2 Scotland, in what is described as the BBC's first attempt at videogames television since the Acorn Electron era.

Titled videoGaiden, the new show will combine games reviews and news with comedy sketches set in and around the gaming world. It's aimed at the 15+ market and the makers say it will treat games as a serious subject whilst remaining tongue-in-cheek - claiming videoGaiden will "Do for videogames what Top Gear does for cars."

"Even if you hate the whole gaming world, you'll still find it funny and engaging."

Six ten minute episodes have been commissioned, with the first programme to be shown on Friday November 4 at 11pm. Although it will only be broadcast in Scotland, it will also be available to satellite and cable viewers across the UK.

"We see this very much as the first step on a path to much bigger things. Interest is already being shown on Internet forums," Said a BBC Scotland representative.

Be worth checking out at the very least, and hopefully we have something quite promising on our hands that gets boosted up the TV Land roster. Apart from Gamer TV/When Games Attack on Bravo and Cybernet on ITV, we have an obvious gap, so hopefully this will fill it. I'll be looking forward to it anyways if I can suss whether I get Beeb Scotland 2 in my cable.

Why? Why does everything need a wacky ring to it? Can't someone just do a show like XPlay in the USA where it's half an hour of video reviews for games? No comedy sketches, no puppets, no cheats segments, just detailed reviews of the newest games with lots of footage of gameplay so you know what you're getting.

Bah, there's definetly a market out there for a really good games show which doesn't talk down to it's audience, but far too many times they concentrate more on lots of gimmicks and "special features" that we hardly get any time to see the games we might consider buying.

Bring back Games Master thats what i say. Put it on at 10:00PM on E4 or more 4 and get Dimond back as the presenter!!!!!

I would mark out if that happend!

I totally agree, Gamesmaster was the best thing ever. Make it 1 hour instead of 30 minutes to add better reviews as well as the 3 challenges.

Oh hell yeah. I mean there was Gamezville which was kinda like Games Master but that has dissapeared as well which is a shame.

But i think what you said about making it an hour would be better. Also we know that Dimond has still got the humor if you watch when games attack. I Demand that they bring the best games show ever.

Also bring back Bad influience as well for the After noon kids TV cause they would be able to do the more kiddy games (like Stuart Little 3 ect) and then have Games master for games like GTA, Resident Evil ect
