Jayden's NWATNA 2004 Awards

I know that they've not been done by anyone on here and largely ignored from the 2004 wrestling awards which were basically the 2004 WWE awards (that's not a dig, I understand the reasons why) so I thought I'd get involved with some of my own. If you watch any TNA and have enjoyed the past year as much as I have (particularly at the moment while it's red hot) then get involved with some voting, but please vote for one and only one in each category. It's just a bit of fun and the nominations came simply from what I believe are the highlights of TNA over the past year. If you disagree and think something should have been included then let me know. Go for it....

I couldn't choose between Monty Brown and Abyss so I picked both before I read your post Jayden, sorry.
No worries DC, I was more aiming at making sure people realised that there were different categories there. If you couldn't choose between two people then that's cool, what I didn't want was people just voting for like al four people in one category, or just picking one vote out of the whole thing.

Ok now that a few of you have voted let me explain who I voted for.

Match of the Year: AMW Vs Triple X. I nearly, very nearly went for Sabin and Williams. To have two matches as good as that on one PPV was just amazing and both were superb. I really could have gone either way but the six sides of steel was just brutal and all four men busted themselves up incredibly. Not just TNA's match of the year, but US wrestling's match of the year in my opinion with Sabin Vs Williams being as good as anything else I've seen all year too.

Wrestler of the year: I voted Chris Harris. As a part of AMW he's been awesome as always but he really stood out when he was given his singles push towards the World Title. His matches, as part of AMW have always been great but he really proved in 2004 just how good he can be as a singles star and he is just as important to the future of this company as AJ Styles.

Return of the Year: DDP. If anybody is a fan of DDP and hasn't seen Turning Point I really can't stress how much you need to. The guy looked in excellent shape and worked a superb match. His programme with Raven has been interesting and DDP can be a serious player for TNA. He's looked superb.

X Division Star of the year: Petey Williams. He's really come of age this year and been in some of the year's best matches. He's gone from generic personalityless reasonable in ring worker to great talking, charismatic, believable, outstanding in ring performer. Hats off to how much he has improved and how well he has played his role as the X Champion towards the end of the year.

Tag team of the year: AMW. Really only two to choose from here, XXX and AMW. When TNA bill these two as the two greatest tag teams in TNA history it's not just a marketing slogan, it's the truth. AMW just nicked it for me as I just tend to love that old school style they have and the fact that they've made tag team wrestling remain relevant in US wrestling. They're the best team currently working in the US.

Manager of the Year: Scott d'Amore. This one was a given for me. He talks well and recently he's realyl started to make me hate him, which is basically hsi job. He's worked wonders in makin people care about a bunch of generic Canadian's and I've become a big d'Amore fan.

Non Wrestler of the Year: I was tempted by Douglas, who is still one of the top 5 talkers in wrestling right now and knows the business inside out. I was tempted by Rhodes who I still find entertaining and is one of the best talkers in teh company. But in the end I had to go for Tenay. You can't have Tenay without the T...N....A and for me you couldn't have TNA without Tenay. He even manages to carry the ever improving, yet still not very good, Don West through shows. When given the chance earlier in the year to be more than an announcer he played his role superbly. Him gettin fired by Jarrett and everything building up to it was aweseome tv. Hats off to you Iron Mike, even the ICP love you.

Feud of the Year: To be honest a quite weak section this one but it had to be XXX and AMW. Not only great matches, but great old school bookin throughout and again, further reminders that tag team wrestling is still very relevant to the business despite what the WWE try to make you believe. Awesome awesome stuff.

Breakout star of the year: Williams and Sabin tempted me but surely there's only one. the Alpha Male Monty Brown. He's taken a horrible gimmick and gotten over with it. His push as of late has been faultless. His mic work is superb in a company that has at times had too little personality. Monty's matches are good enough (his last three big ones, Monsters Ball, Serenghetti Survival, and the JArrett title match have all been excellent) if nothing special, but his rin presence, look and natural charisma have sky rocketed him to become a huge player for TNA. His success is, like Harris, just as important if not moreso to the future of this company.

So, that's who I voted for and why.

Spiral Tap, Fletcher, anyone else that watches TNA, what ya reckon?

Match of the Year: AMW Vs Triple X.The greatest match ever seen. I was pretty close to clicking Team NWA vs Team Mexico though which was easily one of the best of the rest. The 6 sides of steel though had everything from 4 great homegrown talents to big spots and all the rest. Brilliance

Wrestler of the year: Chris Harris. Chris Harris personifies TNA, he is undoubtedly the greatest wrestler never to have held a world championship. His matches against Jeff Jarrett were the stuff of legend, easily some of my favourite matches of all time were Harris vs Jarrett. Hes played his part excellently when he was pushed and even towards the end of this year he has been outstanding still with James Storm in Americas Most Wanted

Return of the Year: Hector Garza People honestly dont realise how big a Garza mark I am and how incredibly over he has been despite not being able to talk a word of English. Even in the heel Team Mexico the fans cheered him as his antics were brilliantly hilarious. Definetly became the MVP of team Mexico and then they all disappeared. Jay tells me then that Garza may be int he X Gauntlet at VR and i pray he is and dayam he ends up winning the damn thing and then continues to get pushed, last week going over Aj styles and then getting a one on one DREAM MATCH with JJ. This guy is going to be champ in 2005 i just know it, and i can say then how much i was a fan before the commercialisation of Hector Garza

X Division Star of the year: Chris Sabin From his excellent work int he Ultimate X matches to his role in the Team NWA to his current push, hes been awesome, especially in the past month or two hes really shown me why I liked the guy from the moment i saw him first in a match against Michael Shane. Sabin is undoubedlty on of the handful of stars who will be NWA champion in time and will carry the baton towards the future of wrestling.

Tag team of the year: AMW. Who else? I'd go as far as to say not just like Jay said and best US tag team but I'd dare say probably the best tag team in the world bar none this year. Simply awesome and some brilliant matches and my favourite tag team, they'll be up there with Edge and Christian as one of my most favourite teams ever.

Manager of the Year: Scott d'Amore. I hate Porky Porky D'Amore i really do. Which is why he must win this award because he's made me hate him so much, he plays his character well and you genuinly curse the screen when hes helping Team Canada to steal wins.

Non Wrestler of the Year: This is getting spooky now me and Jay seem to be going the same way on many of these, Weird, I was about to pick Erik Watts but hes been out for months and not really done much since he came back or done it well, main blame though with that is theyve put him with Goldylocks. bad move, wanna do something decent, dont use GOLDY!. Anyway Mike Tenay gets my vote also, simply awesome, JJ fears Tenay as Si would say. His fighting with Jarrett had me in stitches at times, when the ICP always made fun of Scott Hudson asking for Mike and just everything he does and says is gold. Mike Tenay-Best Announcer Ever

Feud of the Year: Harris vs JJ Nothinh has captivated me more in recent years than this short lived but brilliantly booked feud. Harris' rise to the top and Jarrett saying he wasnt worthy, brilliant. The first one on one match between them that was non title is definetly a match of the year contendor that got over looked i think by the KotM and the title match between the two. But simply brilliant, its when i realised just how much i love Chris Harris.

Breakout star of the year: Im suprised Jay didnt put Garza in this category as I would of voted him, Monty Brown has had an amazing 9 months or whatever it is hes been around back in TNA but when its all said and done...you will all......HAIL SABIN!. Im sorry but in terms of X Division Sabin has pushed the boundries this year and even after an injury proved what a fighter and true hard worker he is. I have all the respect in the world for Sabin, he and Michael Shane really got me interested in the X division, were it not for them I wouldnt care about it much if at all and this year I dont think anyone could have broken out and stepped out of the shadow any more than Chris Sabin. Hail Sabin indeed

yeah it was, it was definitely a higlight for TNA this year. What was so great about it, unlike most matches like that, is that you really ahd no idea who was coming out on top. Any one of those guys could have come out as World Champ. It was booked really well.

And can I say at this point, really chuffed how many people have put votes in. I didn't expect it to get much response so thanks guys. Glad to see people taking an interest

I had to choose King of The Mountain for MOTY. I didn't see the six sides of steel match so that might have been better. I downloaded a clip of the hurricanrana off the cage. Insane!!

Petey Williams was, IMO, the wrestler of the year. He has deffinately improved a lot from last year.

Feud of the year was XXX vs. AMW. It was just so well played out and I really enjoyed it.

I voted Hector Garza for Return of the year. He is great and looks to be headed for a big push. I was hoping he was going to become X-champ after Victory Road but now he seems to be getting pushed to the NWA title.

Overall its been a great year for TNA. Can't wait to see what 2005 has in store for us.

So the voting looks about over in this and the results are in. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote on what has been by all accounts a poor to average year for TNA for the most part, but thankfully it ended up with some of the best stuff they've done in their nearly three year existence.
