I'm going with JBL on this one, he's the most entertaining thing (along with Snitsky) that WWE has going for them. His mic skills are the one of the best, if not the best at the moment, his matches are pretty decent, the ones with Eddie, No Mercy against Undertaker, i also liked Survivor Series against Booker. His facail expressions are top notch, also when he had that neck brace thing with his little hat on top was brilliant! So for my money JBL was the best WWE/World Champion of 2004.

Ps - Dont choose someone like Chris Benoit on the opinion he's worked for 18 Years and busted his ass and deserved it (which i respect), but thats not the question, it doesnt matter if he busted his ass for 18 years or 8 weeks, the question is ''Who has had the best title reign in 2004'' :xyx

Benoit's title reign was good dingbat!

Classic matches in the shape of the three ways, the single match against HBK, the Ironman against HHH, the fact he dragged a good match out of Kane and the fact he helped re-inroduce Edge and put Eugene in the spotlight... Then he did the decent thing and put Orton over clean in a good match at Summerslam...

Then add the fact that he's fought for 18 years and had MOTY candidates every year and was the most underrated talent until this year then you get a great title reign. Also he was sooooo over. He outshone Michaels in crowd backing at Mania for christs sake, this being Mr No Charisma....

Second place? RoH King Pin Samoa Joe and JBL third....

HHH and Eddie joint 4th, but Eddie would have pipped him had it last longer, 5th Jeff Jarrett and 6th is Randy Orton, for all of the month he had lol.....

No honourable mention go's to 3PW or CZW because they stink....

(Just to note their was no poll when I started and I still stand by my choice as number 1... The rest are my optional picks for the whole of the US)

I agree with everything you just said Martin, I was going to vote for Eddie because despite the fact that the ratings argued against him as champ i really enjoyed his dissapointingly short run. But then i saw JBL's name and it just reminded me of a lot of entertaining smackdown moments since he became champ and he really has done a good job.

Benoit for me, fighting champion, feuds based around getting the title back, and not revenge like everything else. Take the title out of Orton/HHH feud and it's still the same, where as take the title out of Orton/Benoit, HHH/Benoit or Kane/Benoit, and there was no feud. Don't see why more feuds aren't just booked the old fashioned way. I want your title, well you'll have to beat me for it. Done

Am sick of the we were friends, I've turned on you, beat you once through interference, and now I want revenge and to end a feud, whilst oh yeah I get the title too. Takes away the whole point of being world champ surely.

Yeah remember when Harley Race was scared of Flair coming for the title and he placed a bounty on the challengers head?

Two fueds for the price for one, challenger having to overcome perials to get his shot and survive whilst trying to out think the evil champ and gaining his title....

Key point though was this was Flair fighting with all his life for the title and Race using his money and brains to keep hold of the title...

Not because he threw his toys out the pram because his stable mate won a deserved world title....

Everything about Benoit this year was that, his hunger and search for the title and his desire to keep hold of it. No revenge, just business. Like the good old days.

It doesn't happen often, but now and again there's a wrestler you want to win the title so unbelievably badly you can't contain it. It was Jericho a few years back. For some it was Benoit. For me it was Eddie Guererro. The sweetest 3 count I can remember in recent history. And the best WRESTLER to hold the belt in a while (except Angle)

I'm going to surprise everyone and say Chris Benoit. :P

I thought it was a good run. There was a great old fashioned integrity about it with it all being about the belt like Jung said. He also dropped the belt brilliantly with Orton going over him cleanly then after the match Benoit keeping that integrity I spoke of with him shouting "Be a man" at Orton and then the handshake.

Benoit's title run was one of the best face title runs in a number of years, I really enjoyed it, and he really was a proper fighting champion, having good matches with ANYONE whilst he had the belt. It was really in my opinion booked well with outstanding wrestling to boot... perfect combo.

Its quite nice to see though that theres only been 7 champs this year... perhaps the era of "pass the belt" is slowly ending thanks to the roster split :)

I voted for JBL who, IMO, has been the best HEEL champ in a long time. Doing what an overmatched heel champ should do, lose by DQ/Count-out, sneak victories, cheat to win, send in underlings in his place. It has been a fun ride with the big native of Texa.....New York City.

Orton - but only because I saw the magic moment when he won...Oo

Benoit deserve's EVERY damn cheer, and all the damn glory too...but because Summerslam was my first, and last watched PPV, I have to go with Orton simply because I've never seen such a grand performance as that. :P

Benoit and HHH at WM was GOLD...it's just that Orton V Benoit was triple platinum, for me. ^^;

I went with JBL because his title reign has been entertaining every week, regardless of whether he even HAD a match, never mind whether it was good or not.

THAT'S the champ's job, not just to put on good matches, it's to make an interesting storyline, and Benoit couldn't really do that.

Benoit might have had good matches, but they were throw-away jobs that were over as soon as the bell rang at the end of the match, instead of it being compelling viewing each week. It was more a case of "this month, Benoit will fight [insert name], then a match at the PPV.

Regardless of what you think of Benoit's matches, the reign itself wasn't great because nothing of real note happened. There were no great moments (other than him winning in the first place) that people might remember. Orton topped that in one week by spitting in HHH's face.

Having a good reign isn't about just having a few good matches, what comes in between is MORE important. The best example is Hogan-Warrior: were they great (or even good? :P) wrestlers? Not really. Was their match a ***** classic? No. But it was still one of the best fueds ever.

JBL certainly has been entertaining, however, nothing he has done has amused me as much as some of the stuff Brock got up to. When he did that "tribute" to Eddie with the Mariachi band when he was dancing around wearing that hat, that was brilliant.

What I'll probably remember most about JBL though is yet another person pointlessly bringing a car to the ring (and taking ages about it!)

That's a ridiculous comparison... Benoit winning it is a moment that will live on in WWE history... NOTHING about Randy Orton's title reign will, other than that it was the moment when the WWE screwed up a rising stars push.

I mean I was watching Survivor Series again today and was just noticing how over Benoit is still... please tell me how he didn't get the fans interested? Because he didnt come out and say a catchphrase or have Vince McMahon trying to screw him each week?

How is Benoit v [insert name here] different from JBL v [insert name here] or even HHH v [insert name here] so many times in the past?

Benoit's title reign was interesting, because the fans were honestly into him getting one over Evolution time and time again until he eventually lost it. FACE IT. Benoit is extremely OVER these days, get over it!

Benoit! No ifs, ands,or buts about it.

I think it was a bunch of BS for the WWE to put the belt on Orton and take it away from Benoit. Totally disrespectful to the man thats busted his ass for the last 19 years in this industry. How long has Randy been in this business? Not even a decade. But yet guys like RVD,Booker T,Scott Steiner, and so many countless others gets passed up from being World Champion? What a crock! :(

:worship Benoit and Eddie truly deserved longer reigns as World Champions. :worship

Lets face it Benoit was every bit as great as Bret Hart was when he was Champion. Not to mention he also was a Tag Team Champion during his stint as World Heavyweight Champ. The only other guy to pull that feat off was"Stone Cold." Benoit truly had the best reign as champ in 2004.Eddie is rignt behind him. J.B.L & HHH's title runs are truly forgettable as well as just plain bull! :lol

I think JBL's reign has been good even though in the matches he has been booked as a complete chump. The only really forgettable reigns of 2004 have been Triple H's, Orton's and Lesnar's (the belt was being overshadowed by his feud with Goldberg).

Benoit, Guerrero and Layfield have had good reigns.
