Diouf fined by club for spitting

Bolton have fined El-Hadji Diouf a maximum of two weeks wages for spitting at Portsmouth defender Arjan de Zeeuw.

"I deeply regret my actions and wish to apologise to Arjan de Zeeuw and Portsmouth," said Diouf.

"My behaviour showed a lack of moral responsibility to the public who support me and I'm deeply sorry."

A joint statement from chairman Phil Gartside and manager Sam Allardyce said: "The club does not tolerate such behaviour from its players."

The statement, published on the club's official website, continued: "We had no alternative but to evoke the maximum fine against El-Hadji Diouf.

"Bolton Wanderers takes great pride in its very proactive family image and yesterday's incident has left a sour taste.

"We do not condone the actions taken by the player and for that he has been severely punished."

The incident happened in the second-half of Bolton's 1-0 defeat at home to Pompey, a game which De Zeeuw scored the only goal.

"I felt it in my face. Hopefully it was just heat of the moment stuff because it's not very sporting," said De Zeeuw.

While at Liverpool, Diouf was fined £5,000 by the Glasgow Sheriff Court for spitting at a Celtic fan during a Uefa Cup game.

Cleveland police also launched an investigation earlier in November after Diouf was accused of spitting at a Middlesbrough fan.

Diouf is on a season-long loan at Bolton from Liverpool.

How much longer do we have to put up with this moron? To my mind this is the fourth time since he's been in England that he's been caught spitting at either an opponent or rival fans. It's completely unacceptable, he should be recieve an extremely lengthy ban or be kicked out of our game for good in my opinion.

I hate him. He came over to England and the only thing he's done is keep the nightclubs in business by going out every bloody night. He is an arrogant, stupid dolt and I'm ashamed that he's still on our books. Us Liverpool fans have nightmares about him as he's on about 50K a week and contracted until the Summer of 2007. He said too, that he won't budge and will happily still on the sidelines picking up his wage slip. After this Bolton won't want him permanently, no one will want him, he's awful. If we write him off it's going to cost us a few million or so, so we're kind of a sticky and sucky situation.

Go home.

Ok slightly less bias guys, admittedly it's a complete terrible act, and he deserves everything he gets, but really you make him to be like a rapist who should be shot or something. He's playing alright at the mo, and if Liverpool don't want him, they'll sell him. Bolton might want him permanently, if he plays well, no one but them can make that judgement, and kicked out the game? Ok that's way too harsh. I don't condone spitting in any way, I think it's the most childish thing you can do a football field, and is a poor example and lack of respect, but banning someone for life?

I mean you play on coke and get 6 months, and get banned for life for spitting at someone? I mean come on lets be realistic. I'd say a month ban, and a month's ban on wages would be the furthest I'd ever go. But a lifetime ban? Never in a zillion years.

It's fair enough if you don't like the guy, but come on guys a little less complete hatred thrown at him. I can think of hundreds who've done worse, in every way.

Point is I feel it hard to take all these times he's said sorry as trueful and regretful if you what I mean.

What kind of a man spits in another face after he dives on face for the 92nd time that game? What went through his head?

In my mind he's an extremely overrated player who did like three good things in the world cup in 2002 and not much else in his career. His actions both in the spitting sense and his constant falling over get me annoyed as a fa of the beautiful game.

And yes as a Man Utd fan I also know we have Ronaldo who falls over all the time, that pisses me off too before anyone starts.

I'm not saying he should get a lifetime ban from football, just that he be removed from the English game. Like I said, this isn't the first time he's done this, I very much doubt it will be the last. It's cowardly, as De Zeeuw said he'd rather get punched in the face than be spat at in the face, i'd agree with that.

Every time he does it he makes some ridiculous apology that means nothing, next time he does it he'll apologise, let's make sure there isn't a next time.

Wouldn't Liverpool be within their rights to sack him for this?

If he gets banned from the English game, then we'd start getting ridiculous bans for stupid things. Basically fine him and ban him more for everytime it happens, and either he'll learn his lesson, or get heavily banned further, and that will worsen his chances in football. But kicking him out of English football, won't set the right example, is terms of everything else. If spitting is a lifetime plan, does that mean breaking someone's leg, or failing a drugs test, or headbutting someone means the death penalty, or a lifetime ban from football altogether?

There is another big factor in the getting rid of Diouf problem, which is Diouf himself. Now Bolton may go in to buy him in the summer, Liverpool might accept it, but is Douif going to walk away from a £50,000 a week contact? He has shown that he has no morals all ready, im sure he would much rather sit at Liverrpool getting £50,000 a week and go on loan again rather than moving to Bolton getting £15,000 a week and actually have to work for a change.

IMO Douif will be at Liverpool till 2007, unless they find someway of sacking him.

I remember when he scored two goals on his Liverpool debut coming off of a decent World Cup campaign, and I got an email from a Liverpool supporting friend saying "Say hello to the new George Weah" accompanied by a video clip of him scoring.

How times have changed.

Personally I still think Diouf is a good player, despite his attitude. He was played out of position most of his time at Liverpool(on the right wing, while I thought after watching the way he played in the world cup that if he was moving to a wing the left woulda been better as he seemed to like to drift out there and turn inside), and from what I seen hes looked decent at olton. However things such as this incident stop me from liking him as a player, and he has a history of it also. If he can change his attitude, he would be a great player to have, but with his attitude it seems like a waste of time.

On a related note, Im sure he got a 3 match ban for it, which is the same as Lee Hendrie got for "simulating a headbutt", which I think is ridiculous. You can claim intent, but if he intended to he was hardly going to stop a few inches from Mills, and it was just the sort of thing you see a lot(whether right or wrong), when two players get caught up in the moment and try to psyche out their opponent, and both managers even said they didnt think it was a red card. And to think a lot of Celtic fans were aggrieved when Alan Thompson got the same ban, despite the fact he actually made contact, whether or not Lovenkrands threw himself to the ground like he had been shot.

No mate, De Zeeuw said he had rather he had hit him... To be fair I'd rather get punched then have somebody gob the slimy lining of the throat and gunk in my face and feel annoyed by it and not react...

Least if he digs you when you dig him back it's slightly more justified...

Like Shearer said as well on M.O.T.D, De Zeeuw should have got a medal cos nearly every other player on the planet would have clocked him, if it had been Keane or Vieira he'd have been looking for his teeth.

Fact is he dived... then he threw a tantrum... then he got in De Zeeuw's face before spitting in it like a w**ker and then ran off just in case he got a kicking...

He spits on kids and other fans and acts like a bloke who doesn't even like to play most of the time...

Waste of frick'n space.

Ah yes, you've had a busy day ain't you...

First you get booted from chat, then you pled your case only to flame everyone around you and then when you meet someone with a different view you come up with the lamest half arsed insult in the world...

I'm glad I'm not as funny as you, I'd never get anything done for thinking of such shiny pearls of wit... Or should I say s**t.

Come back when you have matured, learnt to value other peoples views and also more importantly, grown a pair rather then stuffing your dads socks down their for effect.

Responce?
