Thanks Kam, I'm now too terrifed to to leave the house...

I'd either have to open my eyes, catch a cold, or get attacked by 17 million rats. All at once.

I got that e-mail time ago. As soon as I saw "It's impossible to lick your elbow", I tried it! It felt a bit strange to see it say 75% will try it. I felt fooled!

  • 1 month later...

Just been browsing old threads (I'm bored) and saw this one.

Surely we say "Bless You!" when people sneeze due to the plague in the 1600s. An early symptom of the disease was sneezing.

Hence (also) the rhyme:

"Ring around the rosy,"

(villages infected with the plague had stone walls built around them which no one was allowed to cross in order to contained the "rosy"-cheeked people who were infected)

"a pocket full of posies,"

(Flowers were thought to ward off the plague and also provided a respite from the smell of decay)

"Ati-shoo, Ati-shoo, we all fall down"

(You're sneezing and you've got the plague, therefore you fall down)
