For those that don't know, PWI stands for Pro Wrestling Illustrated, and is a magazine that is still very much kayfabed. Since I no longer write for the site... I think it would be fitting if another member of staff rips that pathetic list apart this year.

I don't even think we should look at it... its really there to be ignored. Again its just random and cant make up its mind what to judge the positions on. Just such a stupid stupid list.

yeah I've always been a fan of it too.

They TRY to be tolerant of non-WWE peeps, but they fail miserably, and their Annual Top 500 countdown always include a load of rubbish, as they base it on Title Runs rather than TALENT

what exactly do you count as talent then? If you're at the top of the WWE or in the old days WCW, or one of the big Japanese promotions then surely that would make you a more worthy candidate for the best wrestler of the year as opposed to some midcard jobber in TNA or some small time Japanese promotion? If someone has held the WWE title all year, and been in some great main events then why shouldn't they be at the top?

Well, it might be a bit better this year than some PWI 500's I've seen over the years (especially the top two), but there's still some weird stuff like Chavo Snr above Jun Akiyama, Hardcore Holly beside Liger, Mordecai in 88th (Squashing 3 or 4 people then getting stuck back in OVW makes you more successful than 412 fellow wrestlers?) and Paul London nowhere near the top 50, which is bizarre considering he's won gold and put on great matches this year.

PWI are never going to be winners with everyone no matter what list they put out, and maybe some of the stick they get from this is a tad unfair, but let's face it, no one's really going to take it too seriously now, are they?

So many problems with that list... First is Choshu being ahead of Taue after all Taue has put in in some good performances whilst Choshu's have stank and been mainly short lariat fests...

Kobashi at 4 is justified by his reign and Benoit at 1 and Eddie 2 also although Kobashi should have come ahead of them... Simply because he has put on great matches with Akiyama, Taue, Takayama and others.

Muto, Hashimoto and Sapp have all blown in the ring this year due to injurys, weight or in Sapps case being a big fat phoney. Tenzan has been impressive in patches but his title reigns where poorly booked and left him weak till the G-1 and Kawada has been average by his stardards in the new AJPW.

Once again it is by and large a great big steaming pile of crap.

Why in the hell Monty Brown is 101st is beyond me, hes better than a lot of people above him.

Good to see JJ nearky making the top ten but come on this is a real travesty

60. Sylvan Grenier

Everyone nods

Sylvan Grenier should be number 1.

Everybody boos

What in the world of god is this?

150. Jon Heidendreich

And no Brian Lawler on the list at all. Heidenreichs had a proudctive year hasnt he, hes read a poem out on TV and shouted his name at the screen a bit. Lawler hes had a crappy year, rehried by WWE for a couple weeks after 2 and a half years, holds an NWA title and wrestles on Memphis Wrestling every single week.

I could make my own 500 better than that

I'll even start it right now

1. Brian Lawler

2. Sylvain Grenier

3. Jeff jarrett

4. Triple H

5. Chris Jericho

6. Chris Harris

7. Shawn Michaels............and so on, see how much better is that

Michael Shane number 27, and way ahead of Chris Harris? Shane's awful, his in ring stuff's really average and he can't talk at all. And he needs to lose the HBK mannerisms really quickly because it just makes it stand out how inferior he is to his uncle.

But, any top 500 is going to have things like that, that people would disagree with. I can't see a great deal wrong with it really.

But they also fabricate interviews and they are all kayfabe. There was an interview with Edge back in 2001 I believe, and he was speaking totally kayfabe and at one point in the interview it said something like "At this stage of the interview, the door to Edges house swings open and in walks his brother Christian carrying the KOTR trophy!" Some stupid kayfabe crap like that.

Also, they had an interview with Lance Storm and when asked about it, he said he never knew anything about an interview in PWI, thats because PWI make up their interviews, its rediculous.

I think the overall list is poor. I only checked the top 15 thouroughly and I didnt see Homicide in it. Homicide should rreally be in the WWE. His promos are great and his matches are also good. Give him his own stable with Ruckas (sp?) and maybe New Jack. Them guys are really good and I think it would be good. Anyway the list is crap.

He wrestles in AAA, he and Octogon fought Eddie and Art Barr when they where Los Gringos Loco's in a 2/3 tag match... That was on AAA's first ppv which was called 'When Worlds Collide'...

Was a really great match. But he hasn't done much really in a global sense or got much press this year... he's just that as a sop to Lucha fans...

the only comedy is this holier than thou attitude from the smarks! it's it's kayfabe, but where else will you find a listing of 500 wrestlers including a brief bio, ht, wt, and years active? Also as you get lower in the numbers you will see indy wrestlers, which you would never read about otherwise, and there always could be the potential future star!
