i saw revival on Bravo and i must say, i thought it was pretty good arr hell it was great...i wished i could have been there- good matches and not bad commentary (once you get use to it).

the best match i thought was Eddie Gurreo vs Doug Wiliams and also Jodie flesch Vs Doug Willams....arrrrrr hell all of Jodie's matches were awesome... this kid freakin rules

me thinks Jodie Flesch is the UK's version of Sabu....[holds up sign "Jodie RULES]

Guest Dean Douglas

I'm going for OK.

There were some fantastic moments and some utterly cringeworthy stretches of 5 minutes or more, the amatuer hour commentary being the worst part. Instead of a long winded post I'll summarise.

The Good:

Doug Williams - fantastic, utterly superb. I'd seen some of his work before and this just consolidated my first impression.

Eddy Guerrero - on top form.

Tournament Final - I'll admit to this being a great match.

The Bad:

The Commentary - need I say more?.

Drew McDonald - he's the Scottish version of the Undertaker. leading to...

The Jody Fleisch Beatdown - dragging, horrible, painful and Jody sells like Kevin Nash on chloral hydrate. leading too....

The Selling - a lot of it just looked amatuerish.

Ulf Hermann v Brian Christopher - anyone that watched it will know what I mean.

Alex Shane - his promo spots had me cringing and his wrestling is reminiscent of overweight jobbers you used to see losing to Koko B. Ware and Hillbilly Jim in 1987.

Fleisch v Storm - I don't care how much anyone praises this match, all it was an athletic exhibition, a more polished Hardy Boyz match. Spot after spot with no transitions, everything net geeks complain about in the WWF, but because Revival wasn't promoted by Vince McMahon and didn't have "WWF" in the title the same people will have nothing but praise for this match.

The Balcony Dive - similar to above just that this time people complain about XPW doing things like this.

Tommy Boyd - what's sadder?, a 47 year old former CITV presenter in red tinted sunglasses trying to be Vince McMahon or a 47 year old former CITV presenter in a leather jacket trying to be Vince McMahon?.

The Women's Match - worse than Steph v Lita, with cheesy "storyline" to boot.

I'm pretty much indifferent to everything else.

Dean D hit the nail on the head, except a few points.

The Ring! It was pathetic, really. Not only was it far too small, the surface looked like it was made of plasticine. How can you sell a move where you hit the mat, when you sink 6 inches into it?

The referees were simply awful. Not only did they make fools of themselves when trying to sell, they looked like they were pulled off of the street.

Let me reitarate, the commentary was totally awful. Worst PBP ever.

Ulf Herman's squash of the kid was laughably bad. He just coincidently picked the only fan in the arena with the Revival shirt on to beat up, hmmmmm...

If you have Tom Billington contracted to appear, let him do more than give Fleisch a gold hubcap sellotaped to one of Mr T's chains! Wouldn't it make more sense to have him do the draw, or was Boyd's ego too big to hand over such a huge task to someone who isn't the Vince McMahon of England.

The woman's match should have been called The Who Can Reverse The Most Hammerlocks In The Least Interesting Way Challange.

A very predictable end to the tournament...Talk about an underdog crammed down your throat...

Storm Vs Fleish...OK, it was voted British match of the year. They're experts with ladders. Why did this last 2 mins, but the whole Highland/Deano beatdown lasted about 5 times as long?

Alex Shane....Blah.

Herman Vs GMS...Blah.

Most of the show...Double blah.

I'd rather watch a below average WWF PPV than Revival. Someone wake me up when something worthwhile happens in the UK scene, I'll be lying in my Rock bed, beneath my Austin and Undertaker posters.

me thinks however good this show was people would still put it down and however bad it could have been people would still love it.

The ring was small but who cares perhaps they should of left brian christopher in the states and used the spare cash to buy a decent sized ring but never mind. if the presentation is all you care about then your'e obviously not a wrestling fan.

i agree the commentary was pretty awful at times not much worse though than what the coach and michael cole deliver every week. perhaps joey styles and an ex pro wrestler could have done the job. Actually Joey Styles and Dynamite would be incredible for future shows. I do realise it would be difficult to hire dynamite and styles.

What i'm totally against though is hermann beating up a fan. This aint the 60's guys lets not go back to the days of picking on the granny (who's actually the wrestlers mum) in the front row. plus ive seen that guy at almost all the fwa shows ive been to.cough*trainee*cough

Also the predictable booking of jodie as the underdog winner. There was only two potential winners of the tourney. Williams for his ability to pull off great matches and Fleisch because his style is loved by the new generation of wrestling fans (especially the talksport listeners) but as soon as jodie got beat down I could tell he was gonna win it. However i think jodie is a worthy winner and him and doug pulled off a great final. :xyx

The FWA has a 20ft ring but they decided not to use it as the wrestlers are not used to it, however as was revealed by Mr. Sloan (Dr Sloan was a totally different person) the 20ft ring will be used in the next Revival show whenever it will be.

People have been brainwashed by the WWF product, People need to realise that other promotions dont have a billion dollars to spend on the top talent in the country and Television production.

My Revival thoughts

That ring was WAY to heavily padded, and more to the point looked way to heavily padded. Any more padding and they could have drowned out there!

The commentry sucked. Next time I think they need some commentators who can A) Commentate, B) Put the plot over without forgetting about calling the match. C) Actually call the matches.

Brian Christopher seemed intent of jumpng off one turnbuckle and over the opposite one. And the balls up with the Gurrero/Shane chair shot that bust Shanes nose up. That was just nasty.

The ring was a bit small for TV.

Some of the matches were way to predictable.

And the refs took way too many bumps way too often. Why did they need to have someone help with count on 2 occasions. It's bit lame to repeat the same spot in 2 consecutive matches.

Lets play spot the trainee plant, with everyones favourite gladiator Ace, and some other random trainee who got smacked. And the 'crowd of stewards and other plants thats Alex Shane and Scott Parker jumped 15 feet onto.

No cameras placed to follow the Shane/Parker match around the arena.

Naff editing for TV. It could have been done so much better, especially with an eye to retailing the tape. And with a month do it in, why wasn't it?

And that....7o's nightmare medallion that Jodie Fliesch got for winning. What the hell? That would have been better off in a seventies porn film. Along with David Seaman (hey, he has the name, the pony tail and the 70's porn star moustache, what more can I say)

Thats my list of obvious faults.

I did enjoy the show. It was really good. They were excellent in the ring, and they were some brilliant spots in every match. I thought that perhaps the old school TWA wrestlers came out the best, but it was a close call. And with more experience working to TV rather than small crowds, the FWA wrestlers will be on top with the better product. If they can step it up with the equipment, like an 18' ring, and a less predictable plot, it will be better than anything WWFE is puting out at the moment.

I know I have been very critical here, but FWA are trying to be THE UK promotion. That was there first real attempt at a TV show, and I will give them the respect they deserve. As long as they see the shortcomings in the show, and act on them, then UKwrestling will be back on TV in a few months time. I know I'll be watching it. They can put together an excellent product, all they need now is the deal to match.

They apparently had 19 days in the arena to get used to whatever ring they used. So that one doesn't wash. I'm sure it takes less time than that to learn the positioning for a bigger ring. And why not use it in afew shows before hand? But hey, what the hell do i know?

I thought the "Ladder" area was just stupid...Tommy talks about no tables etc, yet there just happens to be a ladder area setup. Did Tommy step outside for a second and then come back in without noticing it?

Classic break of kay fabe moment was all the promos done in the toilet mirror or wherever and you could see everyone talking about the match they were about to have...

I have to say i was mildly impressed although after having not seen british wrestling in any way shape or form since that god awful transatlantic wrestling challenge crap that itv showed a few years ago i guess the only way to go was up.

I was impressed with Doug Williams in pretty much all his matches and i thought his match with Gurrero was really good where as Brian Christopher really stank the place up.I know lots of people are raving about Jodie Fleisch but personally i think the kid needs to lean a few more basic wrestling moves instead of just bouncing off the top rope all the time impressive as it may be it wouldnt be long before that got very old if he was exposed week after week on TV.

The general production was weak but this is too be expected when you are used to the high quality production of the WWF and you could tell that some of the guys had practically no experience in cutting promos for TV.

All in all however i thought this was a promising start and lets hope that they can build on this limited success provided they get rid of Tommy Boyd cos he really annoys the hell out of me :xyx

after watching revival again last night some of the stuff in there was some of the worst stuff ive ever seen in a wrestling show.

1) the womens match. this match was HORRIBLE. The Mark sloan lexie kiss conveniently caught by the cameras why?!? the womans match should of been a straight contest but judging by Nikita's obvious lack of talent that wouldnt be too good. As for that muppet ace he's being trained by the fwa to be a wrestler and he cant clothesline sloan over the top rope. Ace = future billy gunn of uk wrestling.

2.) Jody Fleisch's arm injury. he came out before the drew mcdonald match with the injury outta nowhere. wouldnt it be better if he got the injury from the dino/drew beatdown? Plus i wish jodie would stop doing a standing ssp when he gets clotheslined.

3) this one isnt probably that bad but the whole tournament draw thing who would have guessed eddie guerrero drew jodie and doug would be drawn in the tourney.

and all the plants if youve ever been to an fwa show or their schools you would have noticed every single plant.

But the matches were good so i dont care

I thought most of the wrestling was good, wrestling wise this show was probably on a par with a Raw or Smackdown, which having attended a few Hammerlock shows over the past few years, i was expecting it to be ok.

As for the TV production, I was expecting it to be as bad as Hammerlocks Transatlantic Wrestling Challenge, so I was quite glad that it was OK. The commentary was poor but still 20 time better than the TWA. It just cannot be stressed enough how much better this show was than the TWA.

The ring was too small and visibly too soft, but at least they're actually using proper turnbuckles instead of pillows tied in the corners.

I thought this was a good start for what was the first show, for next time perhaps a few more UK promotions could get involved and get more of the talent on show.

As a crappy mid nineties dance band once sang, "Things can only get better", and on that note, i'll be watching the next show.

More Promotions involved...

Hmmm, you mean like the first WrestleXpress where an open battle royal for every promotion to get involved suddenly disappeared?

To be honest, the FWA are pretty damned lucky for so many reasons...

Sponsorship, heard a new one about this today actually...

Cab and his production, absolutely top quality and I don't think you'll find very many more wrestling fans with his talent and willing to help as much.

Magazines looking towards London, for example having Mo Chatra on board.

Radio & TV...FWA have a London fanbase, plus they can obviously get a guy to the studio every week.

Mark Sloan's games shop...thus having the ability to get the Legends of Wrestling and PS2 sponsorship.

Oh, plus the first one that everyone forgets...The vast majority of the FWA roster was trained by Hammerlock, (Yeah, the *%&*%& who never work with anybody else...I wonder what I did right!)

Add the fact that they are "New School" whatever the hell that is and that for a good while it was a case of "%&*^ the Old School" and they can now have an invasion and boost their roster with quality talent like Drew McDonald and Robbie Brookside, whilst most trainees are only now coming through. Though, imagine where you they might have been had they embraced the old school to begin with.

Oh, SST...who you will never hear a bad word about agreed with by many. Just open a bloody shop Mark. :)

The one major problem with FWA...and I don't think they'll mind me saying this (or,maybe they will)...is that you will not get a Dynamite Kid or William Regal style story of "I was trained by xxxx, he used to work me in a dusty gymn. The guy was about 50 and was a mean bastard who could tear you and stretch you!" Now it's like a classroom of schoolkids and no lecturer/tutor...just a pile of videos and a few books.

I can feel a rant bubbling though... hehe
