Talk Wrestling Online Newsletter - Issue #62 - 16th May 2004

Hey all,

Thanks for the feedback on the forums this week. It'll help me make minor improvements in the future which will make for an overall better TWO Newsletter. Got some projects lined up for the newsletter in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for them! Bit of a small newsletter this week as Chris2K is on hiatus which means no EWR WWE Corner and HSM has stepped down from the position of US News Reporter. I would like to thank HSM for his fantastic contribution to the newsletter and it was a pleasure to work with him.

That means there is a position available to be the US News Report. If you are interested, e-mail me at Pabster@talkwrestlingonline.com and hopefully you may be writing here next week!

Forum Focus Special

takerlives posted on the US Forum this week talking about the rumours going around that Konnan could be heading to the WWE and this is what a selected few had to say about it…

"Please have mercy on our souls. I can't stand the guy, grr! Just thinking of him irritates me." - Reckon Steve V.1 dislikes Konnan?

"You know, I quite like Konnan. He's a fun character who pushes the boundaries but doesn't go too far. His in ring ability is average, but he'd make a good IC/US challenger." - Konnan finally has a fan! Darkstar is the fan!

"I hope Konnan doesn't go to WWE, I'm enjoying this whole 3 Live Krew angle on TWC and I'm hoping it never ends." - Keen fan FTW hoping that this rumour is just a rumour and nothing more.

"The 3 Live Krew suck!!!" - Thank you Jack Bibby.

"Konnan was ok in WCW, when he was teamed with the Filthy Animals or the Wolfpac, mainly because they overshadowed him and no-one really noticed how crap he really was. Hopefully he will not be making the transition to the WWE, Smackdown is bad enough as it is." - TWO Talent Relations Manager AlanJP, brings us the JP Report.

"According to 411 the source of these 'Konnan to WWE' rumours is...KONNAN. What a moron." - BringTheNoise ends the rumours and the thread!

Forum Threads of the Week

Darkstar created a poll asking what the guys thought was the worst tag team in wrestling history. It was a good solid thread, but stood out in a quiet week on the US Forum.

Goldy wins!! She created a thread about what accents the rest of TWO like or disliked and it was a good read. Plenty of member chipped in and it made for an entertaining thread! Good stuff Goldy!

FAVOURITE ACCENT - http://www.talkwrestlingonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12137 - Goldy

To start with we have some FWA news. The FWA management team has announced a few matches for the FWA live show at the Morecambe Dome on the Saturday 29th May. Alex Shane will be facing Jack Xavier and Aviv Mayaan choosing his own partner of his choice. Jonny Storm will be squaring off against James Tighe who will be ready for Morecambe after battling a minor injury.

FWA TV will be debuting this Thursday at 9pm on the Wrestling Channel and then repeated throughout the week, be on the lookout for the full FWA Online TV Mini-Site coming soon to http://tv.frontierwrestling.com. This should be worth watching!

Work is also well underway for the brand new Alexshane.com, which will be ready very soon, making a welcome return is the Shooting Galleries, which will now be Unofficial, Unedited and Uncensored from the FWA due to the usual controversial content of the articles.

Simmons has slightly injured his back while wrestling at Cleethopes last Saturday, hopefully he'll be back in time for Carpe Diem.

Onto the FWA's Academy now, the decision has been made to withdraw the future dates of all shows based at the Riverpark Leisure Centre in Winchester. This takes effect immediately hence there will not be a show on May 22nd. The reason for this is poor attendances.

Doug Williams ended up losing his first match in NOAH, wrestling in front of2,100 fans. Doug teamed up with Tamon Honda and Kenta Kobashi against Akira Taue, Takuma Sano and Bison Smith.

The next MPW event in Coventry will take place on Saturday, 22nd May at Centre AT7 on Bell Green Road. Wrestlers so far signed for the evening include Psycho Steve, Chris Charizma, Mad Mike, Thor, and Edgar Stryfe. There will also be a prize draw for a DVD player, donated by GameFX of Ball Hill Coventry.

The show starts at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm. Tickets cost just £6 for adults and £4 for children. To book yours either e-mail

info@mpwrestling.co.uk or call 0774 22 33 109.

IWFs next show see's them return to the Consett Victoria Club on Friday 21st of

May. Tickets cost just £4 and you can buy them at the door on the night. Eric Scarboro has a huge surprise for IWF champ Assasin, who will he face? The IWF Tag Team Belt is also up for grabs as we see The Avery Brothers takingon 2 Hot 2 Handle.

FCW are this week putting on two shows, the first is this Friday the 21st May at the Collingwood Centre, Great Barr. The next night, Saturday the 22nd May see's FCW in The Irish Centre, Digbeth, very handy if you're traveling by train or coach! Tickets cost five pounds each, or you can buy a family pass for £17. For more information visit http://www.futurewrestling.co.uk.

That's everything for this week, tune in next week for all the usual news and we'll have all the details of RBW's big show taking place at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton! Don't forget to check out Adam Sibley's column now up at Wrestling101's UK Scene section. Always a great read. Thank you for reading.

TWO Newsletter Main Event -

"Tag Team Trouble" by Stephen Ashfield

Having looked at the women's and cruiserweight divisions in recent newsletters, I thought I'd have a look this week at the Tag Divisions. Both divisions on Raw and Smackdown are in trouble that's for sure, so what can be done to help them and does Vince really care?

You know, I had to stop a minute and actually try to remember who the champions actually are on Raw, then I remembered, it's Benoit and Edge. Yes that was 'Let's be nice to Canadians' week on Raw, hey it might even persuade Bret Hart (I hate that Christian name you know, I nearly always type it in as Bert Hart which really isn't the same is it?). What is the point of having Benoit and Edge as title holders? Well, it guarantees two big names in a tag title defence and you can put them up against other big names such as Flair and Batista. But it doesn't make sense having the World Heavyweight Champion as a tag title belt holder at the same time. What happens when it comes to Bad Blood, will Benoit have two title defences that night? Course not, so look for a title change in the next few weeks but who to?

Flair and Batista have already held the belt twice and this Evolution duo aren't that bad, but they're not a proper team. That's the problem with WWE tag wrestling, there aren't many specialists. There aren't teams that have been together for years, it's just full of teams giving wrestlers something to do. Storm and Venis come to mind. Who else have we got out there on Raw? Not a great deal really, there's La Resistance but they don't impress me and now Dupree has gone the real strength of the combo has gone. Test seems to be drifting now that Steiner seems to be out of the picture. Look at the teams that met at Wrestlemania, it's all changed since then and not for the better. What can happen then? Vince needs to look at OVW and see what established teams can be brought in, then again he could look at other Indies and see if there are any teams he can introduce. Failing that, look for Eugene and Regal to tag or Tajiri with whoever. Then again, how about the return of Jeff and Matt Hardy with Lita? That would be a step backwards in time but could be a short-term solution. Christian and Tyson would be passable as well.

Over on Smackdown it's comedy time with the terrible Rico. Charlie Haas must look at Shelton Benjamin's push and wonder what's going on. This is a short-term joke nothing more, nothing less. Time for the Dudleys to come to the rescue I think. Holly and Gunn are a passable team, but again just two wrestlers thrown together. Rikishi and Scotty are another well-worn joke as well. The Bashams are passable I suppose, FBI don't do a great deal, but there does seem to be a bit more life on Smackdown than Raw. Perhaps Kidman and London could tag or give Orlando Jordan a partner?

Neither tag division is a patch on what it used to be. There's no Hart Foundation, Brainbusters or Rockers out there for sure. VInce has to decide which wrestlers can't cut it as big stars in the singles division and then give them a long run together in the tag division, not a few weeks to give them something to do. I like tag wrestling but does Vince??
