WWE RAW Results (5/10): Stacy Returns; Major Show!

May 10, 2004, Aired on Spike TV

Live from San Jose, California

Results by Ryan Clark

Raw is live tonight from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Start of the show: Recap from last week's main event where HBK and Chris Benoit went head to head only to have HHH ruin it all by the end of the night. JR reminds us that HHH is an indignent bastard!

The fireworks set off and we are ready for some action! Tonight we will have Edge vs. Randy Orton, Eugene vs. Rob Conway, and much more including a promised steel cage match between Y2J and Christian.

The music of HHH hits and he comes to the ring ready for immediate action.

One on One

HHH vs. Shelton Benjamin

Shelton gets things started early with a nice elbow, he ducks a clothesline and gets a backslide for a short count. Shelton on fire early with a cradle followed by an arm drag into painkiller. HHH backs Shelton into a corner and he throws some rights and lefts. Shelton counters with a big powerslam for a 2 count. Shelton mounts HHH in the corner and starts the 10 punch but only gets a few as HHH carries him off the ropes, but Benjamin nails a huge DDT. Shelton goes for the big corner splash but HHH ducks out of it and HHH clotheslines him over the top to the outside.

As Benjamin is on the outside, HBK comes to the ring and starts to beat the hell out of HHH.

Winner: No Contest

HBK gets on the mic after HHH gets away and he says that tonight is the night! He is not leaving San Jose until HHH gets back in that ring. Bischoff comes out and says that just simply is not going to happen and he will not lose control of his own show. He said the first person to get out of line tonight is going to be made an example of. Bischoff says that HBK did cross that line. Easy E goes on to SUSPEND HBK!

When we come back JR and the King lead us through what just happened as HBK gets tossed out of San Jose by security guards as he is suspended. Then we go through video packages hyping the Edge and Randy Orton match tonight.

In the back: Evolution is saying that HBK got what he deserved. Ric Flair goes crazy and says that they are the best thing going today. He then hypes up Randy Orton as the best IC champion ever. He then hypes up Batista who has a match next with Tajiri. Bischoff comes in and kisses HHH's ass and tells him that next week he has a shot at the world title!

Don't you wish you were the king of energy??? Stacker 2 BABY!

Sting of the night: Last week's encounter where Tajiri was in Batista's powerbomb and hit him with the green mist!

One on One

Tajiri vs. Batista

Batista comes to the ring as Tajiri awaits what seems to be his doom as Batista is looking thicker than EVER.

As the bell rings the men face off and Tajiri keeps Batista away with some kicks to the ribs. Tajiri hits a drop toe hold in the corner and then he gets whipped off the ropes where he ducks as Batista goes to the outside. Tajiri strikes Batista from the apron and he rides off the apron to bulldog Batista on the security rail. However, Batista gains control by ramming Tajiri into the ring several times. Back in the ring, Batista is in control as he hits a big vertical suplex and he starts to wear Tajiri down with punches to the back and head.

Tajiri shows some signs of life with a sunset flip pin for a two count but that only makes Batista mad as he lifts Tajiri and gives him a big sidewalk slam. Tajiri is trying to stay alive with kicks but it is too much as Batista whips him into the corner and then works on his lower back with shoulder charges. Batista breaks off and runs at Tajiri who gets a kick to the face followed by a heel kick! Tajiri works his kicks but Batista nails a clothesline and takes Tajiri down hard. He goes for the powerbomb but Tajiri works his way out and hits a DDT for the two count. Tajiri sets up for the Buzzsaw kick but Batista catches the kick and picks Tajiri up for a HUGE spinebuster. Batista covers Tajiri and gets the victory.

Winner: Batista

Aftermath: Batista picks up Tajiri and gives him another spinebuster followed by a huge powerbomb and then he picks Tajiri up and chokes the mist right out of him. Tajiri is hurt bad as Batista continues to choke the life out of him. Finally some backstage goofs come to the aid of Tajiri who isn't doing too much of the thing we call moving.

When we come back Stacy Kiebler joins the show and she is looking good. She gets in the ring and talks about the WWE Divas south of the border DVD and she says she is going to show us some clips. The video package starts and things are looking sexy until the music of Gail Kim hits and she and Molly Holly come to the ring. Gail says that she made the women's champion tap last week and Stacy gets all the air time. They go on arguing until Molly and Gail start to beat on Stacy. Stacy gets saved by Victoria who knocks down Molly and gives Gail a backdrop. Jazz comes to the ring and starts to take on Victoria and it looks as if the bad girls have the upper hand. That is until Nidia comes to the ring and helps Victoria clear house!

In the back: We get an interview with Chris Jericho who says that Bischoff has been throwing his weight around way too much and he promised Y2J a title shot next week. Y2J says that that does not matter tonight though because he has Christian in a 15 foot high steel cage!

WWE Intercontinental Title Match

Randy Orton © vs. Edge

Randy Orton comes to the ring looking very confident as he is set to take on Edge for his IC title.

Edge comes to the ring ready to rock as he will attempt to get double gold here tonight.

The lock up again and Randy Orton takes Edge down with a headlock takedown, Edge works his way back up and the two break. Edge works Randy in the corner with shots to the lower back, out of the corner, Edge gives Orton a back breaker for a close two count. Edge is still in control until Orton hits a big european uppercut in the corner.

After some back and forth exchanges Edge works over Orton and he drags Orton to the ringpost and slides to the outside to put Orton in a sick bow and arrow. It seems Edge wants to work on the back. Back in the ring Edge gets another two count and he follows up with more back shots. When we come back from commercial Edge hits a cross body block off the ropes for a two count. During the break they show clips of how Flair is helping Randy by grabbing Edge from climbing in the ring. In the ring, Orton hits his variation of the back/neck breaker and he gets a two count on Edge. Edge is in a rear chin lock as he is trying to get the crowd behind him. Orton keeps the pressure on as he clubs Edge in the chest. Edge works his way out with a hip toss but Orton jumps back on the attack with a modified camel clutch. Edge goes down again as the crowd tries to give him some motivation. Edge works back with some elbows and he drops to the mat to kick Randy in the gut. Both men are down as the ref starts the 10 count.

Chad Patton gets to an 8 count when Orton is up and is running at Edge who gives him a roll-up for a two count. Both men are back up and Randy hits a neckbreaker and he covers for a two count. Randy climbs to the top rope and hits a high cross body block, but Edge uses the momentum to roll through for a two count. Edge works over Orton with a ton of forearms and uppercuts as both men are just throwing wild blows! Edge gets the upper hand as he hits a back body drop followed by a back suplex. Edge lifts Randy onto the turnbuckle and he climbs up but Orton knocks him down. Edge runs at Orton and knocks him to the apron, Edge then runs at the apron and knocks Randy in the lower back and Orton flies onto the security rail. Edge throws Orton back in the ring and he climbs the top to hit a huge missile dropkick.

End of the match: Ric Flair climbs on the apron as Edge is setting up for the spear on Orton. Orton moves and Edge spears Flair on the apron, but this allows Orton to roll up Edge and grab the tights for the 3 count!

Winner and still Intercontinental Champion: Randy Orton

Eugene is shown in the back as he is set to have his match next. Easy E comes up and asks to talk to Regal who says Eugene needs a miracle to win. Eric says he wants the opposite to happen because if Eugene loses he fulfills his promise to his sister and then Regal can become an active competitor. Eric is setting up Eugene for the worst. Regal says he will make sure the best man wins.

Six Women Tag

Jazz, Molly, and Gail vs. Victoria, Stacy, and Nidia

Jazz and Victoria start things off as Jazz gets Victoria in early trouble with an STF, Nidia helps out but Jazz gets a tag to Molly who starts getting it from Victoria. Molly makes a tag to Gail who gets powerslammed by Victoria, but she then gets Victoria in the submission from last week. Stacy breaks the hold, all women hit the ring, Nidia gives a sick kick to Molly who goes flying. All women are out of the ring except Gail and Victoria. Gail gets Victoria in a half crab and the champion taps to Gail Kim for the second week in a row!

Winners: Gail Kim, Molly Holly, and Jazz

In the back, we get an interview with Christian who is with Trish and Tyson. Christian says "you think I'm concerned, you think I have problems? You don't have problems when you have a problem solver like Tyson Tomko!" He then goes on to talk trash to Jericho and he says the winner will go on to bigger and better things. He says he will have the chance next week to be the heavyweight champion of the world. Trish runs into Lita after the interview and Trish asks her how she is doing with this whole Kane thing, Lita starts to talk and then Trish goes "OMG it's Kane and she screams, but when Lita turns around Kane is not there and Trish is laughing. Lita attacks Trish and Matt comes to get her off. Trish tells Christian "God can't she take a joke?"

Matt Hardy comes to the ring and he is set for action. Val Venis' music goes off and it looks as if we are going to have a match but the titan tron cuts to a video clip where Kane is shown and he tells Matt that he does not have an opponent tonight. Venis is shown on the floor, Kane says let this be a message to you Matt, as he throws Val into the steel wall. He then tells Lita that he wants an answer to his question, and she has one week... and it better be the right answer!

One on One

Rob Conway vs. Eugene

Prior to the match, Eugene is shown in the back and is a bit nervous. Regal tells him don't worry, I'll be there for you. Eugene hugs Regal and Regal looks a bit hesitent to fulfill his promise to Eric.

Eugene starts the match by climbing the top rope for no reason. Rob locks him up when he gets down and Eugene reverses into a take down. Eugene is working hard as he gets another takedown followed by some chain wrestling into a combination pin for two. Eugene looks happy as he walks over to Regal but he turns around to get a vicious clothesline. Eugene is in a chin lock but he gets out. Rob is in control as he bangs Eugene's head, but every time he does, Eugene seems to get stronger! Eugene works over Rob with punches to the head as he hits an atomic drop both front and back. Eugene climbs the top rope and hits a mega double ax handle and he then hits the Hogan leg DROP! He runs off the ropes again but William Regal grabs his foot.

Eugene looks confused as the crowd is trying to tell him that it was Regal who did it. Regal tries to blame it on the apron. Rob sees the opportunity and runs at Eugene, but Eugene works his way behind Rob and rolls him up with a bridge. the ref starts the count, the crowd is going wild and Eugene wins his first ever WWE match!

The music of Chris Jericho hits in the arena as he made his way to the ring for this Steel Cage Match main event on RAW against Christian, who was accompanied by Tyson Tomko and Trish Stratus.

Looks like another strong showing from the Raw brand, You can't really go wrong with a Cage Match main event between Jericho and Christian.

20 Man Battle Royal next week should be good fun.

It should be. But I can't help but feel that they just threw a bunch of workers in just to have it come down to Jericho and Triple H.

Was a good Raw though.

Anyone else like Eugenes music? :)

another great raw this week

great cage match to end the show...also a very solid IC title match with orton and edge

i gotta say the eugene character has been brilliant thus far and the crowd is really getting behind it...regal as always is great...i love the historical names and references eugene drops (last night referencing karl gotch)...buffoon outside of the ring, wrestling machine inside it...kinda looks like they are going towards a regal face turn where he grows to like eugene

the kane/lita stuff is a bit dumb...but at least it has matt on tv

otherwise raw continues to roll

it just proves ratings don't mean alot right now...the show was well promoted in advance and was coming off a series of hot shows...can someone offer an explanation as to why it would fall?

the last few weeks have been a smark's delight...perhaps casual fans don't feel the same way

Recent shows haven't been "smark" orientated at all' date=' if any thing the shows have been geared very simiarly to the sort of TV they did in 2000.[/quote']

put it this way...smarks are praising and enjoying the shows...the internet feedback has been almost entirely positive

Boyo's Raw report:

Not a bad Raw AT ALL!! I'll briefly go over a couple of the matches but will then ask a question or two?

The 6-woman tag wasn't particularly great, Victoria tapping out to Gail Kim AGAIN was a good move to boost the credibility of the Women's Division. Perhaps she tapped out too quickly though? Expect a Gail Kim title reign...MAN she is a good wrestler!!

Eugene was a pretty good match. I wasn't totally convinced by what I saw but I must ONCE AGAIN take my hat off to the WWE writers and what they are accomplishing with the delicate handling of Eugene. Very impressive.

I don't know if it was just me but the crowd booed the wrong match? They booed some of the Batista vs Tajiri match (which was decent) and not the Edge vs Orton match (which didn't get my blood going at all).

The cage match was terrific though, and that press slam from the top of the cage...wow!

Anyway, some questions:

1. In the background of the Edge vs Orton match you saw a group of guys holding up a sky-blue sign with "TWO" written on it. You know anything about this, guys?

2. Whatever happened to the old cages? Nowadays they use "cells", not cages. Cages are blue steel grids, not wire mesh fences...

3. William Regal is CLEARLY CLEARLY going to turn face, or is it just me?

4. First Benoit, now Y2J: Why are Canadian wrestlers now, all of a sudden, from the USA?

Cheers!

1. No Idea, guess I missed it

2. My guess is that the chain link is a little easier on the wrestlers than the old cages

3. I see him feuding with Eugene once he catches on that Regal is trying to screw with him, but him turning face is just a probable

4. Beyond my reasoning, being Canadian was'nt really a problem, I guess just trying to play the patriotic card? Plus wasnt Jericho born in the US?

....and I thought the Edge-Orton match was ok, as in Edge put on a good showing, while Orton looked like he needed to up the effort. RAW looks like it could really take off big time with Orton, Edge, Benjamin, Batista, Jericho, and others who I cannot think of right now, all they seem to be missing is a little better writing to produce some top notch material. They just seem to be missing that little something that makes greatness

Finally managed to watch Raw on my sky+ this morning, and it was a great show yet again. It is no wonder that this show is doing so much better than SD. I was looking forward to these matches, and wasn't dissapointed at all. Well except for the fact that HBK interfered in the HHH/Benjamin match.

Oh and this is my 2000th post, another milestone reached :P
