A.C.
Stolen from another board... You are under house arrest for the next 10 years! And you can have just 8 DVDs to watch for all that time - one from each of the following of genres. Commercially available box-sets are fine - no making up your own compilations! 1. Comedy 2. Action 3. Kids 4. Girly film 5. Stand-up live show 6. TV series 7. Live gig/Compilation of music videos 8. One for luck Choose away!

Russ
Hmmmm. The fact is, I'm a serial renter. I barely own any films on DVD, because if I don't rent them all out and actually buy them, I watch the film once and look at the special features then never touch the disc again. I'm more of a boxset/TV series guy when it comes to DVDs, as I usually only buy the stuff that I can't rent. 1. Comedy This is a tough one, because there's some many different styles of comedy I love. From The Simpsons to Frasier, Friends to Phoenix Nights, Seinfeld to Family Guy, I love all kinds of comedy. I could never pick one style of comedy over the other though. I'm going to say that Friends series 4 (Is it even out in the UK?) would be my pick, because it's the funniest series I can remember while browsing through an episode guide, and there's a lot of half decent special features. It's a tough choice to pick just one boxset from my favourite genre, you're a hard taskmaster Mr AC1D. 2. Action Something with Ah-nolt, the king of action films. I would love to see a stacked DVD version of Commando, but seeing as how it it doesn't exist, I'll pick the Extreme Edition of Terminator 2 which is a phenominal film where Arnie steals the show by acting like a robot, which is about the only thing easier to him than acting like a clueless puppet. 3. Kids If Rob Feinstein answers here, I'll be sure to edit his post. Anyway, my favourite kids show would be The Simpsons, seeing as how Channel 4 put it at number one in it's 100 Top Kids Shows. However, I love all the Disney/Pixar films, especially Toy Story. I could watch that film when I'm 75 and I'd still love it as much as someone who's seven decades younger than me. Buzz and Woody get the nod here. 4. Girly film Mickey Blue Eyes! Bar none, the BEST romantic comedy ever. It's got lots for the ladies (Hugh Grant, romantic plot) and just as much for the guys (Knee-slappingly funny humour, James Caan). It's the best film ever to watch with a date, and one of my favourite films of all time. Buy it on DVD now. 5. Stand-up live show Peter Kay and Billy Connelly are my favourite stand up comedians, so it'd have to be something by them. Billy Bites Yer Bum and Big Banana Feet were both recorded when Billy Connelly was at his funniest in my opinion, and if you can listen to either of them without choking with laughter then you HAVE A HEART OF STONE. I used to burn MP3s of Billy Connelly's stand up routines onto CDs so I could listen to them while I drive, and every time I had to put off the CD because I was laughing so much I couldn't drive properly. Peter Kay is also such a funny guy, and Top Of The Tower will never get unfunny, but I'm afraid he falls short when it comes to beating The Big Yin. 6. TV series Ah, now I can fit in The Simpsons. Stick me in a room with one boxset from seasons 2-10 and you'll me laughing like an idiot. I currently own Series 3 and haven't watched all of it yet, but I've seen the episodes before and they're all classics. Yup, this gets it. 7. Live gig/Compilation of music videos Um, geez, I dunno. I don't own anything musical on DVD. I did buy Iron Maiden Rock In Rio a while back, but I sold it on Ebay for more than I paid for it. I guess it wins by default, because I honestly can't think of another music DVD that I've ever seen. 8. One for luck Hmmm, I'm stuck for choice. I've already got T2, so I don't want a similar (yet superior in many ways) film in Die Hard. I already have enough comedy, so that rules out some funny stuff. I guess the three I can narrow it down to are The Rocky Boxset, The Godfather Boxset and if I'm in my house for 10 years, I could get the Lord Of The Rings Boxset in 2011 when it's released to commemorate the 10th Aniversary of the first film (you heard it here...er...second. Aintitcoolnews.com had a story up about this before RotK was out, and I'm inclined to believe it). I'm going to say that Rocky wins here, because Rocky NEVER loses (the last fight in the film at least), and even although I'm in a HUGE Pacino-Loving mood right now (I saw Glengarry Glen Ross last night for the 100th time, Ricky Roma simply steals the film and makes me quote him all day. "Aah, you're a big man, how about I buy you a pack of gum and teach you how to chew it"). So my final list is... 1. Comedy- Friends Series 4 2. Action- T2 Extreme Edition 3. Kids- Toy Story 4. Girly film- MICKEY BLUE EYES~! 5. Stand-up live show- Big Banana Feet (Billy Connelly) 6. TV series- The Simpsons Season 3 7. Live gig/Compilation of music videos- Iron Madien Rock In Rio 8. One for luck- Rocky Anthology It should be a gooooooood 10 years.

Feenix
1. Comedy - "Rat Race". Because it's such a great film and severley underated. It's by Jerry Zucker, the guy who made Airplane! and the Naked Gun series. 2. Action - "The Matrix". It's amazing, nuff said. 3. Kids - "erm... "Finding Nemo". It's the only kid's movie that's not completely retarded. 4. Girly film - Erm. I dont watch chick flicks. So i'll just say "Metropolis". What?! The main character's a girl. 5. Stand-up live show - Any Jesper Carrot thing is fine for me. 6. TV series - "Alias". My favourite show, shame nobody watches it though. 7. Live gig/Compilation of music videos - "Linkin Park- Live In Texas" 8. One for luck - "King Rat". POW camp in WWII. Not original, but it's a good movie. Root
Apologies in advance for the extreme bumpage, but this is quite a sweet thread. I came across it while doing a search for something else. 1. Comedy - Dazed And Confused. My 2nd favourite movie ever. Just sublime. 2. Action - Robocop trilogy boxset. The first one is my favourite film of all time. 2 is watchable. 3 is an insult to the legacy of RoboCop though. 3. Kids - The Emperor's New Groove. The funniest Disney film ever, bar none. 4. Girly film - 10 Things I Hate About You. A great film which 99% of all girls love. And so do I. 5. Stand-up live show - Totally Bill Hicks. The greatest stand up comedian/social commentator of all time. 6. TV series - Undeclared. Brilliant US teen college sitcom cruelly cancelled after 17 episodes. Probably as Americans didn't know where the jokes were (no laugh track). 7. Live gig/Compilation of music videos - The Prodigy: Their Law. Live gig and all their music vidoes. Lovely. 8. One for luck - RoH Manhattan Mayhem. The hottest show RoH have ever put on.
