England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has ended the immediate uncertainty over his future by agreeing a new deal.

The Swede, who has been repeatedly linked with Premiership side Chelsea, will sign a contract extension that will keep him at the helm until 2008.

The Football Association is expected to clarify details of the agreement at a news conference on Sunday (1100 BST).

Reports suggest a release clause has been inserted allowing Eriksson to quit after the 2006 World Cup.

Pressure has continued to mount on Eriksson to reveal his future plans, with further speculation dominating Sunday's newspapers.

Agent Pini Zahavi, who has links with Chelsea, claimed the former Lazio and Benfica boss was in talks with the London club.

Zahavi said Eriksson's visit last Thursday to the home of Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon was for a "business" meeting.

"What's the big secret? This has all been going on for months," Zahavi told the Sunday People newspaper.

"What has Sven done wrong by meeting him (Kenyon)? I cannot see what all the fuss is about."

England continue their warm-up for Euro 2004 with a friendly against Sweden in Gothenburg on Wednesday.

Well, good news for at least the short term.

Well i have to say that i am surprised at this, yesterday i was expecting him to quit the job and now he go's and signs an extentison. It ends a odd weekend for sven after been spotted by the press at the home of chelsea chief peter kenyon. Which was all over the front pages on saturday morning. Then he goes and names ALAN THOMPSON in the England squad. And to top it off he goes and comitts himself to the England job, i guess that he likes to get noticed.

Well its great news for England, it gives them a bit of stability going into Euro 2004 and hopefully all rumours concerning Sven and clubs like Chelski will now stop. Personally i was expecting him to leave and take over from Ranieri, even though that would be a huge mistake for the Blues. I am not a fan of Eriksson and i wouldn't have cried if he left the job, i would have been living in hope that we get an English manager with some talent.

Would rather have an englishman to be the manager. Glad he's signed in one way, Steve Bruce was rumoured to be in the running for the job, and he's already said the job he'll leave for is England manager only. Just hope we get some sort of success, if the rugby team can do it, why not the football team?

So Brucey wouldn't leave if the United job was offered to him?

Anyway, I was expecting Sven to get sacked this weekend after reading yesterdays Sun and hearing on Sky Sports News that the FA were tracking him down yesterday morning for urgent talks. Supose the talks took place and the FA tied it up how they wanted. Sven says he was just listening to offers from Clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

One thing it does tell us is that Chelsea are actively seeking a new manager and therfore Ranieri's time is definately up.

Don't think Brucey would leave for Man United. Yeah there a massive club, and he spent some of his career there, but I still don't think he would go. He's said he's more than happy where he is at Birmingham, trying to build for the future. Feel sorry for Claudio at Chelsea though, Barney rubbles thought money would buy him a super team straight off, but they all haven't gelled. I think he deserves one more season, where he can establish his regular chelsea team.
