World Wrestling Entertainment Expects Record-Breaking WrestleMania XX Pay-Per-View to Be Its Highest Grossing Event Ever

Pay-Per-View Buys for WrestleMania® XX to Exceed $40 Million

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 2004-- World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE - News) announced today that it expects world-wide Pay-Per-View gross revenues for WrestleMania XX to be between $40 million and $45 million, making it the highest grossing Pay-Per-View event in WWE history. WWE's net share is expected to exceed $20 million after revenue-sharing with cable and satellite providers.

WWE said its first-week estimate of Pay-Per-View buys is 825,000, exceeding Pay-Per-View buys for WrestleMania XIX by 25 percent. WWE expects that final Pay-Per-View tallies, once all information is provided by distributors and their affiliates, will be between 900,000 buys to 950,000 buys. The suggested retail price for WrestleMania XX was $49.95 as compared to a suggested retail price of $39.95 for WrestleMania XIX.

The number of buys for WrestleMania XX is an estimate based upon preliminary data available from the WWE's Pay-Per-View distributors and their affiliates and is subject to refinement as further information becomes available from these distributors over the next several months. The estimate has been posted on corporate.wwe.com in accordance with WWE's practice of updating the website weekly to reflect certain key drivers of its business including television ratings, pay-per-view buys and live event attendance.

Thats good news for the WWE, so it was worth spending all that money on advertising! Hopefully it will be the start of something great and bring people back to wacthing the WWE and its PPV's. Maybe, just maybe the single brand ppv's could start getting a few more buys?

From http://www.liveaudiowrestling.com/WO

'WWE announced today they are estimating 825,000 buys for Wrestlemania, which would mean combining all revenues, it would be the biggest money pro wrestling event of all-time'

That's great news for them.

Hey, can anyone tell me if the T.V ratings have consistantly risen, or that house show attendance has risen above 3,000? :roll

Get a freakin' clue; the buy rate was always going to be up from last year's. This isn't a major triumph at all. Come back and start yelling when the television numbers, house show business and future non-WM PPV buys are the same.

Screw you Singhy. All I care about is going around saying that Chris Benoit came out on top in the main event of WWE's biggest grossing PPV of all time.

The way you're talking it's as if you're starting to turn your back on Benoit. Maybe Ed has gotten to you...

Hey, no one was more happy than to see Benoit and Eddu hugging at the end of that show. It was bloody surreal, and mark-out for one and all...smarts. I have a horrible feeling though, like Shawn and Bret, that Benoit and Eddy have been doomed failure in terms of drawing because of the era before. The ending of WM was, well, weird; as they two hugged, I had their careers flashing thru my mind, from Stampede with Benoit to New Japan thru WCW to WWE, and with Eddy down in Monterry, to New Japan, WCW then WWE. T'was a very strange sensation indeedy.
