We’ve all been sucked into the world of tablets and smartphones in recent years, so it makes sense that when we are taking out contracts or buying them outright, we want them to have a good level of battery power to see us through the day. When you forget to charge your phone overnight but still leave the house with a good level of battery power, it makes sense not to worry about it. The thing is, times have changed since the robustness of the Nokia 3310. The introduction of touchscreens and internet connections and apps has meant that we now have beautifully sleek phones with the battery life of a gnat.
You can get portable chargers like this one, but it’s not really the point. You want to be able to use your smartphone all day and have it work, not have it crash and be stranded with no communication in an emergency. You can take your phone for cell phone repair as much as you want, the battery will always be a problem if you don’t pay attention to your app usage. Never fear though – we’ve found four of the biggest life-draining culprits when it comes to smartphones and once you know, you can take steps to either uninstall these apps or make sure you actually close them down when you’ve finished with them.
Snapchat
Dog faces and cat ears are as amusing as they come, but this app is the top killer of smartphone life. As you use it to send stories and make amusing videos, the memory of your phone is being used, too. It’s not just about when you use the app, either, because the streaming of stories and photos is steadily draining the battery life of your phone. Stop checking in as often, and be careful about how much memory your phone is using.
Google Maps
Having the location switched on for your phone keeps it constantly being used all day, which is a drag on your battery life. It’s a useful app, but constantly streaming and picking up your location takes its toll. There’s no use in trying to find your way with a prematurely dead battery! A hack here is to find your route and screenshot it, before turning off location and using the pictures to find the way.
YouTube/Netflix
If you’re going to be using a video or streaming application, your poor phone is going to suffer for it. Unless you happen to be watching Netflix on a train with a reliable power source, you may want to wait until you get home!
Facebook Messenger
It’s as handy as texting, but Facebook Messenger is a huge culprit as even just 10 minutes of chatting can drain your battery by almost a quarter! Try and wait for a Wi-Fi connection before you get to chatting to your friends, and you can avoid losing your conversation mid-type!
Your phone battery won’t always be relied on and it’s one of the biggest concerns for Apple and Samsung. However, as long as you know how to use the apps and shut them down effectively, you can stay alive a little longer!
