Many successful athlete start out their training from being a very young age. It is common for children to take up sorting classes at the age of 3-4 years old, and grow up to be world class athletes able to manage incredible feats with their bodies.
However, believe it or not you do not have to be one of those children in order to become an athlete later in life. It is more unlikely that you will ever make it to the Olympics- however there have been people who have done just that.
In the U.K. for example, Bradley Wiggins is one of the most famous cyclists in the country. He has won multiple Olympic medals as well as the Tour de France. He didn’t start his cycling career until he was an adult. So it is possible to make those dreams come true if you work for them.
1. Pick Your Sport
The first step to deciding an athlete is to pick your sort. There are tonnes of different types of physical activity you can choose from, and it all depends on your strengths and the type of sport you’d like to be involved in.
If you love to be part of a team, then sports such as football, tennis, polo and volleyball will be ideal for you, however if you prefer to be alone you can opt for something like trampolining, running or cycling.
2. Get involved in the community
The best step to becoming a successful athlete is to introduce yourself into the community. Make sure you gather up the gear you need, learn about the theory of your sport and dive into all things about the sport. You need to know your sport backwards. You also need to connect with other athletes in the community to begin making an impact in the sporting world.
3. Make It Priority
If you are serious about becoming an athlete; like any other job you will need to take it seriously and make it a top priority. You don’t need to suddenly wake up and quit you job, but make sure that you dedicate your spare time to building up your skill and making your dream become a reality.
4. Set Milestones
Like with anything you do in life, you will not just walk into a room and be amazing straight away. You will need to start from the bottom and build your way up to the top. Make sure that you really take the time to practice and set yourself goals as you go. For example if the first time you run 100m you do it in a time of 18 seconds: aim for 16 seconds the next time. Reward yourself when you reach this milestone and then make a new one. The best way to motivate yourself is with clear goals.
5. Challenge Yourself
Eventually you want to get to a stage where you are just so good that people search the Are they on steroids website to check if you are legitimate or not. The only way you will ever reach this stage is to constantly challenge yourself.
If you have ever practiced yoga you will have heard of pushing to your edge. This mean pushing your muscles to a point where you can feel a little uncomfortable but it doesn’t hurt. The moment it hurts, you need to stop immediately. Always push to your edge, and in time your edge will get further away until you are an expert.
