A spare room in your home can only mean one thing- a game room! Somewhere you can shut the door to the world and indulge yourself in your hobbies, and really get lost in your own little world. It can also be the ideal hangout to invite friends with similar interests over to and host get-togethers too. Your game room is of course going to contain your computer of choice, along with an incredible screen and an epic sound system. But what other cool things can you include? These additions will make it the perfect place to relax with friends or just enjoy yourself during evenings and weekends.
Pool Table or Foosball Table
If you have a large enough space, a pool table or level best foosball table is always going to be a hit. Perfect for a bit of healthy competition between friends, and a good opportunity to get up and stretch your legs between gaming or movie marathons. If you put a chalk board on the wall nearby, it makes it easy to keep score. If you’re hosting a get together with friends, these kinds of things are always a good ice breaker and ideal for getting people chatting and mingling.
Dart Board
This is something you could play with friends or just practice by yourself. Mount onto a large corkboard if you want to save your walls! You could play ‘around the clock’ ‘chase the dragon’ ‘hare and hounds’ or any other kind of dart game when you have people over to mix it up a bit.
Bookcase
If you’re an avid reader, chances are you have quite the collection of books. So why not set up a large bookcase along one wall and store them? If your books are currently sat in bags in the attic collecting dust, this gives you an opportunity to get them seen and read again. If you’re tired of gaming for the evening you could pick up a book instead, buy a really comfy chair or sofa to put in the room so you can relax while reading. A task light lamp will also be essential.
Bar
Being able to offer drinks to friends is not a bad thing, but even if the room is just for yourself, a home bar is a good investment. Buy some great quality alcohol, your favorite wines, beers, and spirits and invest in some nice glasses to drink them out of. Coming home on a Friday evening and relaxing with a drink with a game, movie or book- what could be better?
Fish Tank
There’s something about fish tanks in games rooms that just work. They provide an interesting piece of decor (especially when they’re lit up) and keeping fish can actually be a fun hobby within itself. If you’re looking to bring some personality to the room, this could be one way to go about it. You can get all kinds of cool aquariums these days, if you don’t have much space a tall acrylic column style tank could work well. That way it gives you tonnes of volume to work with but could be neatly placed in a corner.
