Your computer probably has a lot of software that makes it work just how you like and do the things that you want. However, there are some extremely useful accessories that you can get for your computer. These don’t quite count as hardware like a printer or drawing tablet. Instead, they are a bit smaller and serve very specific purposes. And here they are.
External Hard Drive
I’m counting this as an accessory rather than lumping it together with hardware because you don’t need specific drivers etc. to run it. However, I understand that there is a very slim line between all of these things. Anyway, an external hard drive is important for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is a place away from your computer that you can back up important data. The last things you want is for something to happen to your computer and for you to lose everything that was saved on it. This could happen for a number of unforeseeable reasons such as a virus or just your computer components failing. Either way, you will thank your lucky stars that you had an external hard drive with a backup if something like this happens. The other reason is that it just gives you more space to work with. You don’t need to store everything on your C drive and risk it slowing down your PC. Instead, you can save files elsewhere and access them when you need to.
Cables
There is nothing worse than needing a cable for something very specific and not having one. It is almost always worth having a few spare cables stored away in case you ever need them (or one of your currently used ones break). You will be furious if your HDMI cable kicks the bucket and you can’t use your monitor anymore because you don’t have a spare. You can certainly get a new one, but that takes up precious time and can be a serious inconvenience. If you don’t like the idea of having lots of cables (understandably so), then you might want to can a universal cable. These are especially useful if you share the computer with someone else, but you all have different types of USB slot on your phones. This way everyone can connect to the PC without needing several cables to hand.
Headset and Mic
If you listen to music or play video games on your computer, then you likely already own a headset and mic. This allows you to chat with friends or other people playing your game and listen to what they are saying. However, investing in a decent and comfortable one is so much better than the budget options. You might want to get a headset with headphones and a mic combined but often the mic is of a lower quality than you’d like, so getting a dedicated mic is usually best. You want to make sure that they plug in through a USB for the best results (plus this way they can likely be used on other devices such as using your headphones on your gaming consoles).
